HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Cries Feb 19, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I'd noticed the high appraisals for La Bons a while ago...but i'm rarely in the wanchai area so never got a chance to dine there.
a few days ago a frd and i decided to enjoy a late lunch here, and as we walked in i was shocked to find the decor and upkeep of the restaurant to such low standards! it was probably just a tad bit better than a 茶餐廳!
The 45mins I'd spent there was the MOST HORRIBLE 45mins EXPERIENCE of my life! We ordered 2 set lunches:

bowlcream of mush room soup - cream of mushroom soup with no mushroom flavor. i'm confident to say canned soup tastes much better
bowlsalad - veggies weren't crisp and it was drenched with cheap ranch dressing
bowlbread & butter - the cheapest bread i've had. it was cold and "airy"
    bowlsteak - tasteless meat
bowlpan fried chicken with apricot sauce - sauce was way overdone! it overpowered any taste (if any) of the chicken
bowlpassion fruit tea - black tea with syrup
bowllychee fruit tea - black tea with syrup

the most disgusting thing was, while i was halfway through my plate of chicken and steamed veggie sides, i discovered a cooked WORM served with my veggies!!! I told the waitress and she didn't apologize for such disgust! i just told them to take it away!

in the end, la bons did not offer any sort of apologies. they did not take the meal off the bill, not even a dessert for their mistake!

    huffy
I went there a couple of days ago but the set dinners no good lor
    mad
starters: the soup is warm (not hot) and the green salad is warm too! (not cold enough)
    huffy
main course1: the lamp chop! I asked for medium rare~ but it came out.... Rare, medium rare and medium done!! ( coz 3 slices per dish)~ so i asked them to cook the Rare one again, I did mention the other two is ok... BUT~~
they came out done, over done and non eatable done!!
main course2: the pork chop! My friend said it was ok at first but when he had a few more bites, he said the pork is a little over grilled! (有燶味)

    shocked
but surprise surprise!! the 心太軟 is really nice i will definately go there again for the dessert but for main dishes... i might not...

Baby ribs with german sausage Smile Dec 18, 2008
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Came for a lunch with several friends. Well, during lunchtime this place was very crowded with people. So crowded that i thought we were in tea cafe.

There are several lunch sets available. I picked the baby ribs with german sausage.
The soup was okay, it was cream of brocolli. Quite nice. Too bad that there was only a choice between soup or salad, did not have choice for soup, only one type is available a day.

This was a meat-lover's choice. 'cos i love baby ribs so i picked this choice. The ribs were tender, but not much meat. The seasoning was okay. The side dishes i.e. chips and vegetable were okay. The sausage was also not bad. Usually do not like sausage from europe 'cos sometimes there is strong aroma of sheep/lamb 'cos mixed meat maybe used for filling the sausage.

The coffee was nice. Overall speaking, the food quality was not bad. The only flaw is its seating arrangement, making it too crowded.

OMG, I will never come back Cries Sep 17, 2008
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Was in the Wanchai area for meeting, and saw the good comments about Le Bons Cafe, so we gave it a try.

OMG, worst meal I have ever had. Beef (claimed to be good quality) was tough and no seasoning.

Risotto was over cooked rice mixed with a little bit of cream, rice was cold. In the menu it was supposed to have crab meat, tuna, and a few other ingredients, but we can't see any trace of crab and it was so fishy.

Pasta was also over cooked, and no seasoing, it came with a piece of oyster, but it was bad and the texture was funny.

They also serve "fruit tea" with the set, my friend ordered the "green apple' tea. OMG, luke warm green colour water with artificial flavourings. She felt like she was drinking a cup of jello before it get set in the fridge.

the only thing which is okay was the chocolate pudding.

So now we should understand the phase, " you get what you pay for" it was cheap, but it doesn't mean we have to get shitty food.

We didn't even finished the main course, and we called for the dessert. Then we go straight to Pizza Express, it was 200 times better and we finally got some real food.

It was a nightmare and for sure we will not go near Le Bons Cafe again.

Oh, the water glass was so dirty and marks were all over the glasses. Please do something. I heard it was opened by a chef who worked in a hotel before. You call yourself a chef????? I am sorry. Even local chinese tea house, Tsui Wah was a lot better.

Recommended Dish(es):  nothing, food was bad, chocolate pudding okay

Still maintain the quality Smile Jan 06, 2008
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I'd dinner with my friend and they had special blue mussels tonight. My friend ordered the mussels but I don't like shell fish, so I ordered salmon, tomato angel hair set dinner.

Both main course are so fresh. Mussels is fresh and tender. The tomato source of my angel hair taste very fresh! This is my 2nd time to have this dish!!

Dessert chocolate pudding maintain as good as usual. I ordered apple crumble... inside was good. If they can improve the surface to make it a bit more crunchy, that would be excellent!!

For service, a bit not enough attention and really pushy for ordering 餐茶.

Good value for this food quality, will come again!

birthday lunch Just OK Mar 20, 2007
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Was friend's bday the other day and she works in Wanchai. Since I'm not too familiar with the Wanchai's area so I came here to do my bit of research.

Booked a table but still had to wait when we've arrived. u.u" mmm...initially I wanted to order the beef ribs but since its my frd's bday so she get to do the ordering~ She chose lamb rack and spaghetti with salmon & frankfurter.

for starter I had the cucumber soup which tasted really thick and plain. I mean...I could make a much better zucchini soup (its so easy to make la). My frd had a salad, I didn't ask her how it tasted, it looked fresh and normal.

When the main courses arrived I was disappointed. Coz everything we've ordered that day...I could make a better version of it. The spaghetti hv some salmon flake and frankfurter haahaa typical student food we used to make in Uni, nth special. There wasn't much sauce with it nor was there much herbs. The lamb was a lil' dry but not overcooked. There was a few wedges (that was the high light of my lunch~~ yippy!)

We both ordered the 心太軟since it was highly recommended. The taste was good but more onto the ok side. Nth too special~

So the conclusion is that if it wasn't for her bday I wouldn't hv gone ALL the way to Wanchai to hv lunch with her and next yr, hopefully I'd do a better job.

    I think it's nice~ Smile Apr 20, 2006
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I read the few negative comments below and really don't think this restaurant is bad at all.

Comfy deco and environment. Not so expensive with this quality of food. Me and my colleagues ordered 3 different lunch sets: chicken breast, pork chop and steak. I'd say all 3 of them were satisfactory. They make pretty nice sauces indeed. I recall it's mango sauce for chicken, apple sauce for pork chop and mmm...forgot what's for the steak but it was good too.

But there is room for improvement for their soup though. Anyhow, it scored above average for a lunch with this price!

VERY VERY VERY BAD EXPERIENCE FROM THIS CAFE.

    1. SLOW response from waitress, everything need to consult their senior e.g. how many pics of chicken wing in the dish , how much if we bring along our wine?!!

    2. We've ordered a wine from cafe but they opened inside the kitchen....!!?

    3. Wrong allocate of dish but she blame is our fraud to take dish from her hand rushly!!???

    4. While a waitress "Heidi" helping to check our concern about the size of dish, she sudden disappear.. and we asked her to come out but her colleague said she's left!!!

    5. Her manager come out and said it's 'company policy' to open wine inside kitchen, 'company policy' ask to ask staff to leave sharp even customer being served.

    RIDICULOUS SERVICES.. RIDICULOUS PLACE
