Since my last visit I was craving for more food from Sham Shui Po, the rice rolls and the liver noodles.

This was my first stop.

Last time the sauces made the rice rolls a bit too soggy so this time I asked for it plain.

Rice rolls:The rice rolls still tasted as delicious as the first visit and after eating the preserved egg, I used that plate as a sauce plate and dip the rice rolls there.
Their soy sauce is quite strong, so you only need a little bit.
For me I liked my rice rolls with soy sauce only, but on my next visit I will try the full thing with ALL the sauces.

Preserved eggs:These preserved eggs were really mushy, the yolk part had this alkaline taste to it.

Finally found out where this place was located after trying the place for second best rice rolls in SSP.
I missed it on my initial visit because the seating area is behind the counter.

Unfortunately I cannot compare like with like in this case since the rice roll at the other place was different.
Here I just had the plain rice rolls and pork shaomai.

Plain rice rollsAs I do not like the sesame sauce I asked for it without, when it came the rice rolls were in soy sauce. After trying the soy sauce, the soy sauce tasted like watered down soy sauce that was not salty so I added some chilli sauce, soy sauce and sweet sauce from the table to it.

I did not experience the “silkiness” as others described it but it may have been the sesame sauce that gives it this effect.
However the texture of the rice rolls were extremely al-dente and I loved it, it gives me a sense of fullness after I have eaten it.
When noodles/rice are too soft, it feels like you haven’t really eaten anything.
But after a while, the rice rolls get soft after absorbing the soy sauce, so next time I will just ask for PLAIN rice rolls without any sauce so they remain al-dente.
The rice rolls have been rolled really taut and the diameter is slightly smaller than the usual ones.
I will definitely be back for these rice rolls again.

Pork Shaomai:I did not know they were pork when I ordered them because it just said $9 for 3 and did have any other information on whether it was fish, pork or beef.
The colour of it looked like beef and when I ate it, there were so many pieces of diced shiitake mushrooms and it tasted exactly like the shaomai at Health Works. However the texture of the shaomai here were much chewier and there was lots of flour in the mixture.
After reading the reviews on OpenRice, it appears that it is pork.

Virtually stuck on the wrong side of town after the monsoon typhoon of 9號風球, yours truly was lucky to have a friend who offered overnight accommodation in one of his spare houses, with full air-conditioning blasting all night - how luxurious...
The streets still dripping wet and chaotic from the aftermath the morning after, came to Sham Shui Po for brekkie... surprisingly not many shops open by this stage:
Fried Noodles and Rice Noodles Hybrid -
Quite the ordinary stuff, little bit of MSG added but not too much. Look, its edible but I think it wasn't the best I've had.
Soy Milk -
Surprisingly not too sweet, it had a natural soybeans taste too.
The Famous 'Cheung Fan' -
These came with a Pork Oil pre-mixed with soya based sauce, also Sesame sauce. Truth be told I thought this was as ordinary as it gets.
The Cheung Fan texture was ok-good, it was smooth, it was white, its like eating Siu Mai and Fish Balls these days - it tastes the same everywhere you go, very commercialised. Gone are the days when there was a bit of uniqueness to the food.... The pre-mixed sauce definitely boded well with these. My only problem? On some bites, the Cheung Fan had a 'plasticky' note in the background, almost chemical like. Very off putting on these certain bites... in fact you can even smell it.

SURPRISINGLY, VERY GOOD AND POLITE SERVICE.

I am a rice roll, aka cheung fun maniac (not 10000 Maniacs). I love it and I can eat it all the time. Some years ago I discovered this place and its rice roll. Though not freshly made, it was piping hot, and smooth as silk. One of the best I have eaten.
Today, continued with our journey for computer gadget, we stopped by for its famous rice roll. It was still OK, but not as steaming hot as it should be, and less velvety as before. Was it because the shop was too busy? I don't know. Must say I was a bit disappointed.

Everyone recommended me to try there. Really like others comment. Super smooth and full of rice-smelled which I never tasted in other place.
