Not the first time I tried cake from this shop but the last visit has really been a while (almost 2 yrs).
Arrived at around noon but choice of cake is limited. Bought 5 pcs of cake today and tried the first one this - Banana Chocolate Cake

    Comments:
    1. Size of cake seems to be much smaller than last visit and certainly much more expensive.
    2. Looking from the side, there's a large whole in the centre of the cake... woo.. am I that unlucky?
    3. Texture: rather dry for cheese cake (even it's a oven bake one).
    4. Choco taste was too strong that it basically covered taste of banana. (That's coz that used rather small qty and rather raw). They need to consider changing the choice of bananas.

Not as nice as expected Just OK Jul 06, 2010

I have heard that Sweet Secrets offers nice cheesecakes, so I decided to have a few pieces today after I had my light lunch. Sweet Secrets were located around the corner behind the hectic Times Square Shopping Center, It was décor in an eye-catching Jasmine purple, so whoever drives past the shop should have notice its present. Under this burning temperature, you will understand what heaven is once you stepped into the shop. The shop had a strong cooling air-conditioning, possibly to provide the best environment to store their cakes. The shop is pretty small, I bet it could only fit in 4-5 individual customers at a time. The cake display is shown facing the street, so you have to walk out of the shop to check the cakes out.

We chose two piece of cake for takeaways, as there were any space or table for us to eat in. The only table available at the shop were occupied by enthusiastic customers trying to book a cake for birthdays. Nonetheless, the takeaway box was exquisite and glam. I don’t mind carry it around for a while. We then became those horrible customers and had our nice cakes in citysuper food court without purchasing anything there.

    1) Blueberry Cheesecake $35
The blueberry cheesecake had a layer of blueberry jam on top of the cheesecake. I was a bit disappointed as no fresh berries were used on the cake. Yet the blueberry jam was pretty nice and was just mildly sweet. The texture of the Jam were not those jello type but was moist and spreadable. The purple coloured cheese cake was creamy and smooth. It had a mild richness of cheese taste. The crust of the cake tasted like McVite's biscuits. It was soft and crumbly. The combination of the three was nice and was a nice summer cooling dessert. One con is that the cake portion was small.

    2) Banana Chocolate Cake $32
I thought picking Banana Chocolate Cake was a safe choice as banana are best pair to chocolate, yet it was surprisingly disappointed. Originally I thought this was a cheesecake, but as soon as I had my first spoon, I realized it wasn't.

The texture of the cake was quite hard and tarty. The cake gave a very rich and thick mouth feel. The whole piece of cake were mainly made of chocolate, and there were bits of moist banana paste spread randomly across the cake body. The banana taste was however weak as the cake dominated by the chocolate taste.

The crust of the cake tasted like Oreo bits and it was soft and crumbly too. The chocolate decoration on top of the cake was pretty and surprisingly tasted fine. The cream was sweet and pretty smooth. The chocolate ring was just averaged, so I didn’t chuck the whole thing in. To conclude, this cake was unfortunately not something I like.

I've been to the one in Happy Valley a few times. Being a cheesecake lover and having lived in New York for over 10 years, I can honestly say that Sweet Secrets offers the best cheesecake (NY-style) I've tried in Hong Kong so far. I am been very disappointed with HK's NY cheesecake - either they are hard or have the wrong cheese taste. Sweet Secret's cheesecake is creamy and soft, and the cream cheese flavour actually tastes like the ones I find in New York. People who are nostalgic of authentic New York cheesecake should pay a visit. It's not 100%, but close.
