Stormies (Central) is far from a unfamiliar bar/restaurant; it has been one of LKF’s quintessential meeting landmarks. But somehow I have managed to avoid reviewing it for some time. It is managed by the Café Deco Group and the reason the bar/restaurant has such longevity is its location and more particularly the pricing of its alcohol.

The menu is simple, European and reasonable, with a set lunch for HK$128, appetizer were mostly around HK$60, entree HK$150-HK$200, desserts around HK$70.

Pear Salad (0/10)
The pear was not ripe; hence it lacked sweetness and richness. The dress was rather thin and bland, that could have down with more seasoning. Braised Beef (1/10)
The beef was braised and served with carrot and potato stew. The beef appeared to be tender and had fair seasoning. The only technical problem was this is the kind of food I would cook for kids not at a bar. I found the service okay, thought there were only 2 tables of diners during the lunch services. This is a perfect example of how to run a restaurant that does not attracts diners, I am glad that the alcohol sold during the evening is keeping the bar alive.

On a Thursday night my friend and I decided to try out the ladies night promotion at Lan Kwai’s Stormies. Their menu is not extensive – a couple of soup and salads, sandwiches and burgers, steaks, ribs, pastas – reminds me of a shorter version of Hard Rock Café’s menu (which is re-opening nearby in LKF this year apparently!!!). We decided on a spinach salad, burger and king crab legs.

Spinach salad ($88) was definitely a starter size. Dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette, toppings included strawberries, blueberries, goats cheese and pecans. Quite tasty and we both liked the pairing of fruit and spinach.

Stormies’ Burger ($88) was a medium sized burger with a thin beef patty that was ordered to be medium-well. It came with a side salad and seasoned fries. The burger itself was pretty much…..bad. The beef was way too tough – especially on the outer rims where it had been fully cooked – and there was no natural beef juices at all present. Comparing this to my last burger at HKJC’s Food Plaza this was…. unimpressive. Fries were pretty good according to my friend and she proceeded to finish them all, since I hate dislike potatoes.

Alaskan King Crab Legs ($128 for small size) – was served warm. It tasted quite salty from the parsley butter sauce but really tasty. Less salt would've been perfect. They came with two long pieces of garlic buttered bread which were nicely charred from the grill. The crab legs were meaty and in general very good.

For this meal we ended up paying about $100 each, quite reasonable for the quality of food we received. But whether I would pay their original listed price for the salad and burger in particular is another story – I didn’t think the portion or quality of beef justified their standard prices at all.

Stormies in LKF used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but since the beginning of this year, the quality of food and service has gone down significantly. Hubby and I decided to give it one more chance, but we were sorry that we did.

The restaurant had the windows opened on a hot, humid evening despite the running air-conditioner. We complained to the waitress that it's too hot and her reply was because the windows were opened. Yes, we know that, closing them would be a good idea.

We ordered the fish & chips and short ribs. Fish & chips were a bit greasy, but otherwise okay. The short ribs though was a disappointment. It was once our favorite dish, but this time around, the ribs were chewy and tough, not to mention the large piece of fat that came with it.

The highlights of the meal were the dinner rolls and cold beers, otherwise, it was a very disappointing dinner.

Restaurant atmosphere is nice but the service is not the greatest, that's if you have time to wait. We reserved a table for 12 expecting the entree to be served within 30mins after our appitizer(not fresh). To our disappointment, our food was still being made even after waiting for 30mins. Our beverages did not arrive until we asked serveral times. We were told to wait again and again even though other customers (whom ordered later than us) had received their food already. The waitress' kept giving excuses after excuses and in the end, time ran out and we had to cancel our order.

Can't even tell you how the food was as we did not have time to try.
Don't go unless you have more than 2 hours to spend during lunchtime.

went for dinner with friend several weeks ago- very crowdy downstairs but there's only one table eating dinner upstairs- which was us

the place was great, and the food too! i think the reason why it's so quiet is becoz people didn't know about this restaurant. the waiters gave excellent service and chat with us. the alaska crab was very fresh- just that it's a bit too salty. we also had a 'crab cake', forgot what they call it, and it's good too!

overall, a great place for chatting! recommend!
