    Interesting food court ramen
    Strange noodles
    Possibly related to "Osaka Osho"
    Rice dishes might be better.

I deliberately travelled from one Tai Koo (Pacific Place) to another Tai Koo just for this. I chose this shop because of its' name and its' location. Tai Koo is one of the few places which was settled by a large amount of Japanese in Hong Kong.

They had a fairly comprehensive menu, which included miso ramen, tonkotsu (?) ramen and plenty of rice dishes.

I ordered Kim Chi with fried pork ramen, half-hoping that it would be similar to the one I had at Hakodate, also a gyoza:

As with the other shops in this food court (with the exception of Gidako Takoyaki - grilled Octopus balls, one of my favorite snacks from Osaka), first place an order with the shop, collect the invoice, pay at the cashier and then wait for your order around the shop.

Broth: Seems to be a light type of tonkotsu and a bit of shoyu. The taste was fine but slightly artificial. sad Might be the result of the use of tonkotsu powder. Slight hint of fried sesame oil and spring onions.)

Char Siu: Good! Surprisingly, very tender and flavourful. Much better than some char siu in ramen shops I had recently, for example Bario and Eda no Uta.

Menma: Normal menma marinated in vinegar. A bit too soft for my liking. Not crunchy enough but generous portion.

    Kimchi: Average quality. No complaints.

Noodles: Very strange. This tasted like slightly overcooked somen (very thin, white, angel hair like Japanese noodles) or slightly overcooked Shanghai thin noodles. Not good. sad

It would be much better if they stuck with the general "Yokohama style", i.e. use chuka soba instead.

Egg: Not bad at all. Flavourful but not overwhelmed by soy sauce taste.

    Gyozas were quite bad though:
    餃子: 煎得不夠香。一隻竟然還未熟透!

    The gyozas were not good.
Most were not fried properly and one gyoza wasn't cooked thoroughly. Bad. sad

They seem to provide two different types of ramen, depending on which type of ramen you order. One type might be chuka soba and another type is the somen-like noodle.

There is miso ramen (very strange if this shop is really from Yokohama as miso ramen is not from Yokohama), spicy miso ramen, shoyu ramen, and what appears to be the signature "Yokohama Fried Pork Chop Shoyu Ramen".

This shop also serves Soba, Udon (including the very interesting "Chikara Udon", literatlly strength udon, i.e. udon with two pieces of fried mochi and negi), fried noodles, curries and quite a lot of rice dishes like tenshinhan (worth a try) and omurice (omelette rice).

What might have revealed the secret origin of this shop is this:
    王將在背後撐腰? 應與【大阪王將】有關? 如真是的話,飯類應比拉麵較有保証。望到天津飯很不錯。

The packet of dare (sauce) served together with gyoza...

    it's from "Osaka Osho". shocked

No wonder all the tenshin han I saw all looked pretty decent. shocked

Other rice dishes I saw looked pretty appetizing too. smile

    Conclusion:

Wide selections of ramen and rice dishes.
    Bad gyoza
    Ramen was a bit strange.
I think if this shop is connected to Osaka Osho, I will stick to the rice dishes instead.

    Supplementary Information:

    Hysan Place

This Yokohama noodle shop is mostly known for its noodle. However, I always spot a Japanese clientele having this omelet set and the chef, the Japanese himself, always sit there talking to Japanese client. One of the criteria I was told from my Japanese colleague is to spot the Japanese chef for Japanese food so you can have the real Japanese food. I took chance and this seemed to work out well...

Most of the time I see Japanese clients, it's this omelet set so I like to try it out. Surprisingly, or I should say unsurprisingly, it tastes very good. $50 is not a bargain for food court but the taste is real nice, better than the nearby Japanese 'style' shop and Pokka Cafe on ground floor. I suggest this shop for items on the menu that said, Japanese taste!

The omelet itself looks quite dry too and nothing is special from the look. However, when you cut into it, the rice look Japanese to me. The omelet was quite moist and soft with eggy taste too.

The proportion of the rice, carrot and chicken was just right and gave enough texture and taste to each bite. The fried rice inside was quite tasty too. The combination work well.

The set come with a small dish, a soup and a crisp and citrusy iced tea with enough ice to round up the dish quite well. Again, nice and nothing to complain about

$46 for Japanese fried rice -Japanese taste by Japanese chef.. Not bad at all

I would suggest you look for the menu that Japanese taste. Also be prepared to wait a bit longer as the chef will start cooking when you order. I say it's worth the wait.. smile
