i search on openrice before went to stanley, and i found many people recommend this restaurant, so we decided to try

the bread we ask for is under our estimation, it was nothing special except the 2 sauce
indeed they were very good!! lol
    recommend the two sauce

we also order the traditional dish-- the pig leg, it was indeed very tasty and juicy!!! mad
the skin was crispy too!(this is the MUST order dish!!!!)
and a set lunch with soup, salad and apple pie, the sausage from the set was not special as the pig leg and the side dish was awfullsad
the pig leg and the sausage (from the set lunch)
the pig leg and the sausage (from the set lunch)

the view was very comfortable and quiet(as that day was very sunny) with some warm wind blowing

and not much people coming on that day, I think it was probably wednesday lunchtime, we spent about 2 hours there and no one hurry us to go

quite a nice lunch, we'll be backsmile

Went with hubby during out visit to Stanley. My friend called and asked us to visit King Ludwig Beerhall for their famous pork knuckles. My friend said that is the best pork knuckles served in Hong Kong.

We ordered 1 pork knuckles to share as the portion is kindda big, so its just nice for 2 person.

We gave it a try and YES, the skin is so crispy, the meat is soft and juicy, thumbs up!!

There was an uncle, which I believe he is probably the restaurant manager, his service is superb! When we asked for the bill, he came by and asked us '吃饱啦?‘ I feel very homely on the way he asked, keep it up!

I though this restaurant would be expensive at first but then its price is in fact very reasonable!

Firstly, the atmosphere of the restaurant is really good. That night we sat on the balcony and the atmosphere was even better!

We share a set dinner for two which includes seven dishes and it cost around $450 so the price was indeed acceptable.
Dish1: smoked salmon salad - acceptable
Dish2: farm bread and potato soup - the bread is fresh and the sauce are really good!
Dish3: Pork Knuckle- quite crispy but it is quite salty so it's quite hard to finish all of it
Dish4: Steak with fish - the best dish at that night. The steak was very soft and not chewy at all. the sauce is good too.

Dish5: Prawns Fettuccine with tomato sauce - too salty
Dish6: Dessert - The dessert was quite bad in fact. it looks good but turn out to have sweetness only.

Overall it is a very memorable dinner. The dishes are quite good overall and i can say that the price for both the food, service and atmosphere is really cheap.

Was really impressed by its weekend tea buffet before and this time we went back for the lunch set.
We wanted to try the pork knuckle so we just ordered three set lunches including 2 steaks and 1 fish and chip with tar tar sauce.

Soup: came with the set, was pretty good with plenty of ingredients
Steak: ahhh. fair. it was kinda chewy. acceptable
Pork Knuckle: really crispy and tasty at first. eventually you can feel how greasy it is and no one wants to finish the plate lol
Fish and Chip: my favourite from the meal. the tar tar sauce was great and best mate with the fries that came along.

They served fruits in the end of the meal which was perfect to help digesting the pork knuckle. We ordered a piece of chocolate cake for my friend whose birthday is coming up. The cake turned out to be pretty good too smile

Overall: weekend tea buffet is more impressive. haha
Also, maybe they have less staff during weekdays, we had problem getting people to clean up our table after every dish.

bowl I like the King Ludwig beer a lot. The black forest cake melted in mouth and chocolate mousse is alright as well.

bowlThe main dish was salmon steak with spinach source and halibut fillet with barley stew. I really like the barley stew, very creamy, taste good with the halibut fillet.

    bowl
The food is quite good value for the $$

smileI think the best thing for this restaurant is the location. We got a seat right at the balcony enjoying the sea breeze.

King Ludwig Beerhall is always nice and entertaining for a relaxed, quality friday night smile
I chose the tables outside looking at the coast as usual..... dark warming lighting which always make u feel comfortable... and firstly comes a good mug of chilled King Ludwig Beer smile
    Here's the food i had-
Potato cakes with a mushroom cream sauce - brilliantly prepared..... the mushroom sauce was full of Portobello and other mixed types of mushrooms.... it was not too creamy, just enough to thicken the sauce. very lovely sauce..... the cakes i find was a bit too oily on the outside giving me a bit of hesitation whether to take the whole cake or half of it,..... maybe a butter paper would help.
The pork sausages - come in 6 pieces ..... very heavy in flavor - herbs, fat, the meaty flavor , the seasoning was superb..... goes very well with a bit of mustard provided.... then a sip of cold beer - perfect smile
The Vienna - a big simply looking sausage but so so originally flavored.... the texture was a bit crispy with the skin and very tender in the middle .....
    then another order please !!

    lovely meal.

BIrthday night Smile Jan 30, 2010

For our good friend's bday, we must prepare a unforgettable dinner for her!
We booked a table outside, but it was very windy and cool that night, however, there is a heater around luckily...

We ordered a mixed sausage in German Style with good tastes, but really full after eating them; a Farm Bread, which was quite hard to swallow and tear it out... anyway, the butter and the "cow liver" were quite nice, I love it!

For the pig's leg, hahaha, we love it so much! So cripsy and tasty, so yummy!!!

Finally, the singer at the restaurant sang a bday song for our bday girl, so happy!
We had a fantastic night there with good environment and service, with a Jenny Bakery cake!!!

Extremely awful tea buffet Cries Jun 15, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I went to King Ludig Beerhall once with my boyfriend last year for tea buffet. Although the variety of food was limited, the quality was not bad!

But this time, it is so disappointing!

    1) Smoked salmon only appeared once when the tea buffet started at 3pm. I was too late to get them so I kept waiting. However, there was no refill anymore!! How come?

    2) The grilled white sausages, chicken wings and ribs were alright. But the luncheon meat and the sausages (beef + chicken/ pork) were terribly salty which were non-edible.

    3) The choice of variety was extremely limited. All I could eat was the macaroni salad and fried fish with chips which were with relatively better tastes. The taste of the desserts was quite bad!

    4) The fresh-made pasta section allowed you to pick the ingredients you want to tailor your own dish. However, when I reached the counter at 4pm (still had 1 hour before the buffet ended), the ingredients looked like crap! The mussels meat were all gone but the shells remained, the shrimps looks very dry and not fresh at all. What’s more, when I told the cook that I would like to have spaghetti to go with my bacon, he said only penne was available! How come such a big restaurant couldn’t provide any spaghetti? What’s wrong? It’s totally ridiculous! At the end, the penne tasted extremely salty again!

    5) The service of one of the staff member was really bad and unfriendly. My boyfriend and I stayed inside of the restaurant but the corridor behind my boyfriend’s seat was really narrow. Waiters and customers kept struggle through that corridor hard. Whenever my boyfriend was not in his seat, that staff member (a middle-aged man with dark complexion, looked like Chinese) pushed my boyfriend’s chair so hard towards our table, not only one time, but at least 5 times! He’s that bloody rude!

I am extremely disappointed with this restaurant. I can’t believe that my boyfriend and I traveled for 30 minutes from Aberdeen to Stanley just to eat crappy food with crappy service and crappy environment!

If you have a chance to dine in this restaurant, don’t you ever try the tea buffet or you’ll regret for the rest of your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great food, Bad service Just OK May 04, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
8 ppl in total went there last Sat after hiking. It's almost 5pm when we arrive there... Surprisingly, still plenty of ppl there and we are asked to sit on a six ppl table! huffy. Not only that, the 'manager' look guy even 'order' us to retuen table @ 6pm... that's only 1 hr + to finish our early dinner... wouldn't give a damn as long as they can serve their food on time!!!

chopstick Pork Knuckles is as good as ever.
chopstick Sausages Platter ain't that good
chopstick Food and Chips is wonderful
chopstick Lasagna - not that impressive
chopstick Farm Roll X 2 - again nothing special compare to Outback's one
chopstick 'Dark Beer' - mild and great, must try

If they can improve their service, I'd certainly come more often

We made a call before we went, but the phone line was engage all the time. As we got there, thank god there was still seats available.

We made a few orders and it was a little too much for the two of us. Service wasn't as bad as people say......We had a set by the view and it was just right for the two of us. We didn't order the set dinner instead we just ordered 2 soups and a main course each!

We tried out their specialities and ..... no wonder it's their speciality, it tasted really good!!

Definitely worth another try Smile Feb 16, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Went to Stanley today just to get away from the city. Seen this restaurant on TV before and wanted to try it long time ago. When we arrived at 3pm, it was just offering the tea buffet. It was very difficult to decide whether to eat tea buffet or a la carte. We chose tea buffet in the end as we wanted to come again and order by menu for dinner.

The buffet didn't have much German food actually but it was delicious overall. The pasta was very nice, but they only offer 1 type of German sausage which was a little disappointing. I love the different kinds of breadsticks, but would be better if there was a dip for it.

The restaurant and seating is comfortable as the ceiling is very high and also it comes with a nice view.

The drink menu was very comprehensive too with many choices of German beer. We ordered a malt beer which is definitely worth a try, female would also like it too.

I think for the price of the tea buffet, it's definitely worth it.

Me and two more girls went there for celebration of my birthday.
We have pre-book it for outdoor table , facing the sea, although it's bit dark , but we all feel very relaxing and enjoyable by simply blown by the wind!
    We have ordered :
    German Sausages;
    Pork Knuckle with Nann Bread

2 rounds of bear , 1/2 Wessie Beer, 1/2 house beer
    3 glass of French Chardonny

With a brought along BD cake

+ songs of BD sang by the on duty singer

    Waiters are polite and efficient.
Good choice for deep talks , gathering /simply a rest.
