A lot of standard pub grub, plus a lot of pizza's, pastas and finger food to choose from. Mostly between HK$160-$200.

We ordered Fish and Chips ($160), Steak and Guinness Pie, Angus Burger and a pan-fried sole.

After making my own fish and chips, I realized how difficult it is to make a crispy batter. I was surprised at how much variety there could be as well.

The batter was crunchy enough but not seasoned, i.e. bland. It was just marginally better than the one served at the "Fish Bar". Not comparable to Jimmy's Kitchen or Chippy.



Fish: Again, having made my own battered fish, I realized how easy it is to get fresh fish fillet. There is really no excuse not to use a good quality piece of fish fillet. Even if you don't pay attention to the batter at all, simply using a fresh piece of whatever fish, halibut, cod, sole for example. would give you a decent result.

I think they used cod (not stated on the menu) for the fish. It's not very warm. The fish was hard and dry. I'm pretty sure they used deep frozen fish fillets. The fish might have been kept frozen for a lengthy period. There was barely any fish taste.

Chips: Or wedges. This was one potato cut into 3-4 large chunks. This was not good. Cold. The skin was a bit crunchy but not seasoned. Very dry and bland. Unfortunately one of the worse chips I've had in quite a while

Pile of peas: The most striking feature was the large amount of mushy peas served with the fish and chips and the steak and guiness pie. Not bad - unfortunately, this was the best part of the meal.

Service: Very good service. All servers were polite and efficient.




Conclusion:

Unfortunately, none of us were too excited about the food that evening. I won't rule out returning for a pint of Guinness and some finger food.

Still, I prefer Dublin Jack.

house salad份量不少, 用了少許vinegar及olive oil作dressing, 不膩也不酸。沙律內有豆, 蕃茄, 青瓜, 西蘭花, 紅菜頭等等, 全也新鮮好吃, 特別是那紅菜頭, 沒有多加調味, 每口也是紅菜頭天然的味道, 真的是美味呀。

Carved Roast Meat Selection - 主菜是自助形式到出面取想吃的肉及配菜, 每人只能取一次。roast肉的選擇有豬, 牛, 雞及腸, 配菜有雜菜, yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, 椰菜花芝士蓉, 薯蓉, 紅菜頭, brussel sprouts, macaroni cheese 等等, 好不豐富! 肉方面, 有店員親自切, 我和朋友每款也取了點, 怕胖所以沒有要求店員分很大份的肉, 我可是見到旁邊的男士拿了半隻的春雞及厚厚的牛肉! 配合肉類的mustard及sauce也有數款選擇, 一定有適合你的一種。

至於味道方面, 對roast豬肉本身沒大期望, 是對的, 沒有味道, 但不"un"。牛肉很好吃呀, 沒有全熟亦有牛味, 可恨不能添食! 春雞一大隻肉很多, 但也是味淡, 幸而有多種的sauce配合, 所以也吃得津津有味。

整餐的亮點一定是配菜呀! 每款, 是每款都很好吃, 微微燒焦的macaroni cheese有濃烈的芝士味, 炒過的brussel sprous惹味非常, 椰菜花芝士蓉綿綿的入口即溶... 總至, 大家一定要在碟上為各種配菜留下空位, 別讓roast meat 專美!

I was quite looking forward to Harringtons food stall this year because they had the sausage rolls at the LFK Beer festival which I did not try that time because I had already just had lunch at Harringtons!!!

This time they had a stall again at the LFK carnival and on the first day they had fish and chips and meat pies.

The fish displayed in the cabinet was fish in batter but the one served was smaller pieces of fish in breadcrumbs.
Anyway it was good I could sample their fish and chips without needing to order the full portion at Harringtons because there are some irresistably good set lunches.
It was good there was Heinz ketchup and salt but there was no vinegar.
The chips were not that crispy because they had been fried for some time.

I forgot to take a picture of my main course which was the sirloin but will probably return to this place cuz it was pretty good!!! I had come to Harrington's with a party of 10 and everyone walked out raving about their dinner! The only complaint would probably be a longer than expected wait for the food but, all in all, we all would agree that it is a place that we would try again!!! Really good value for what you get!

For the most part, I thought the food at Harrington's was good, it was just served cold when it shouldn't have been. We got two lunch sets which come with salad buffet, entree, dessert, and tea.

Salad buffet: This isn't a salad bar, where you make a salad out of ingredients, it's a salad buffet, where you can get various pre-made salads. I got some salad Nicoise, some Greek salad, and some grilled pumpkin. The Nicoise salad was really well done (A+) the Greek salad was totally fine (A-) and the grilled pumpkin was undercooked and I didn't eat it (D). I also had some Italian cold cuts-- they were great (A). Overall I'd give the salad buffet an A.

I ordered the Turkey Tika Masala. Somehow I couldn't resist the idea of an American bird, in an Indian curry, served at a British restaurant in Hong Kong. The tika was pretty average, and I'd be inclined to give it a B- or so *if it had been served hot*. But it was pretty cold when it got to the table, and that's just pretty unacceptable. D

My wife ordered the roast beef. Her food was even colder than mine. She considered sending it back, but neither of us is very confrontational. I don't think we've ever sent anything back. Anyway, it wasn't just the roast, everything on her plate was the temperature it would be if it had been cooked an hour before we arrived. And maybe it was-- we did both order off the set menu. F

I had no problems with the tea or dessert. The desserts were in nice, small portions, and my tea was unremarkable. B+

I won't say for sure that they cook the set menu food before you order it, and then give it to you cold without reheating it, but I highly suspect that that's the case. At the price they're charging, that's just totally ridiculous in my mind.

Other Info. : To understand my numerical ratings, I gave them 1 on "Taste", because cold food tastes bad, 1 on "Service", because food should be served hot, 1 on "Hygiene", because bacteria breeds in cold food, and 1 in "Value for Money", because seriously, who would pay for that?

Again, lunch with mates in Central, along with me today are chupa chups and zinnamon(would like to refrain from telling the exact date of this lunch... shhhhhh )they said they'd bring me to the new club m***a for lunch! The restaurant wasn't particularly crowded but there wasn't any empty table.

The waiter greeted us and told us there wasn't any table atm, but told us to hang on a sec cos one of the tables was leaving soon

The soon took us around 5-10 minutes and he said it's a friday and nothing he could do about, he was just waiting for the people to get the bill and leave, and he said since we were walk-ins, so we can just wait or we can leave..
Zinnamon was a bit p_____ off by what he just said but we waited nevertheless and finally we sat down at a table.

Waitress took our orders quickly, we ordered three sets of set lunch.

For apps, we were given the choice of a plate of salad from the salad bar or soup of the day
I ordered salad and got myself some leaves. At the bar, there was a range of food to select from, grilled pepper, ham, salami, vege, cheese.... and the list goes on

Zinnamon and Chups (lets just call my mate chups, the name is a bit long) got themselves the soup. When the soup came it spilled on my chair cos the waiter bumped into someone, but it's okay, luckily it didn't spilled all over me.

We all ordered Iced Lemon Tea for drinks and the tall glass looks nice
The tea doesn't taste like HK style Iced Tea - concentrated? - mainly due to the tea base i think, but we're all good.

The much anticipated yorkshire pudding failed badly, its been left cold and not crispy at all. I wouldn't say its soggy but its didn't feel it came out from the oven. The beef tenderloin is in fact very tender and tasty but stone cold. Chups said the only thing warm on the plate was the potato laying underneath the beef.
Since we hadn't got the time to tell them, we just swallowed everything.

The desserts came quickly and tasted... hmmm... sweet... then we paid and left.

Visiting again? The service was fair and food was not bad, except being cold, would like to come back for a second try because I really liked the environment (especially its next to XXXXX!)

Two of my British friends and I went for lunch to Harrington's because they were doing a roast lunch. However, we all agreed it would be better if they provided plates for the salad rather than a bowl where you have to pile everything on top of each other. The roast beef was excellent - tender, tasty and a bit pink in the middle. Sadly the rest of the meal went downhill from there. The gravy was awful - it tasted as though they had put tomato ketchup in it and not of the roast meat juices at all. It was so disgusting that we had to scrape it off our meat and we noticed we weren't the only diners doing that. The roast potatoes were not roasted - they should be crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle - but these were fried new potatoes. The roast parsnips were undercooked, making us suspicious they were frozen. Worst of all was the Yorkshire puddings which we definitely think were frozen and had been cooked in a microwave - they were soft doughy balls a bit like muffins. A Yorkshire pudding should be crunchy on the outside and light and airy in the middle. The puddings whilst not bad were nothing we would order again. We complained to the manager who dealt with our complaint quickly and satisfactorily. However as the food was so bad we will never eat there again.

Second, we've ordered Roasted chicken in half. The chicken tasted not as good as it looked. Meat was dry and tough like being frozen for ages.
Thirdly, came to our Black Pork Belly, meat taste fresh but skin was chewy like plastic. (even knife for steak couldn't slice off the skin, probably need a saw! )
Finally we ordered Fish and Chip, which was their signature and also most depressing. Fish texture was soggy and chips were extremely burnt! None of the restaurants in Central could go wrong with chips !!! All the chips along with every dishes were overcooked in here, even the smallest pub could do better.

I'm not sure if i would give it a chance...

Along with all that there was BLUR and other songs playing in the background

There were no bugs or flies on them and it did not have any strong plant smell.

The tiling on the floor was a familiar scene too.

On the previous review, it said “the fish pie was to die for” but I wanted the roast, so I ordered both!
But in general, if the food is real pure British food, it can’t taste wrong!

For starters there were two I really wanted to choose which was either the prawn cocktail or the crab cakes.
In the end I chose the crabcakes, and for dessert I chose Strawberries and cream.

Although it was just simply strawberries and cream, it was just simply delicious. The cream was thick and tasted similar to clotted cream but a whipped version, it was slighlty sweetened.
It would be great if there was more cream, because I was eating it sparingly.

I realise I am quite harsh on these, but for something to reach a 5 it has to be absolutely perfect. A 5 means la crème de la crème of its type and category; my point of view is that there is no such thing as perfect in texture, taste, presentation, smell etc and a 5 is virtually impossible.
0-1: Horrific, inedible
1-2: Will not order it again, and it's below average
2-3: Average joe food. Many places can replicate or make this.
3-4: Quite good and tasty. The higher end of 3 represents that the dish is identifiable to the restaurant and has its own distinctive taste and I will consider ordering again.
4-4.9: Very very tasty and the flavours of the dish is unique to the restaurant. In particular in the mid to higher ends to the 4, the food is almost proprietor-level good.
5: Pure bliss and so perfect that it's inexpressible.

Excuse the poor quality of the photo.

The appetiser buffet was quite balanced in general. From my memory, there was a selection of Romaine Lettuce, mixed salad, cold corn, all sorts of ham and cold cuts, roasted peppers/pumpkins, cold pasta, and some others.

Although none of the selection was particularly spectacular, they were all quite good in general. The selection was more than your average lunch buffet for the price, and all of it was quite pleasant to eat.

Everyone was only allowed to have one plating full of appetiser.

The lamb was very well executed overall. It has a crusty texture on the outside, with the temperature and the meat was cooked to a well balanced level of tenderness. This dish actually surprised me in a good way, and I would try it again if I could. It tastes a different from the lamb you order on a regular basis.

Similarly, the couscous was prepared brilliantly. The nice refreshing Mediterranean mix of seasonal vegetables was a perfect counterbalance to the heavy taste of the lamb. The taste was not bland either as couscous can tend to be rather dull when it is not mixed with the right balance of zest and fresh vegetables. Well done here.

Dessert (3.25/5)

Mango pudding: There was nothing special about the pudding, but it wasn't bad. The texture and taste is what you would expect from a restaurant at this price. Nonetheless, it's always good to have something sweet to finish off the meal!

Tiramisu: The tiramisu was quite good, but a little too creamy for my taste. Nothing in particular to mention here as well. I would choose this one over the mango pudding, however.

The service was overall amicable. Given that lunch time was very busy, they did a fair job in answering any questions I had. The timing of the dishes was also very good, as they gave us adequate time to finish off our appetiser buffet and rest our bellies a little bit.

**********************Conclusion******************************
This is a great restaurant overall, albeit the stiff competition it faces in Central.

Would I return again? Potentially. Again, given the amount of competition in Central I would probably choose somewhere else to eat for the price range. Perhaps, I will try more traditional British food next time.

We opted to sit in the dining area (the bar area is distinctly separate, but still a really comfortable space to eat and/or drink).
The dining area has a Wagyu feel to it, and definitely much nicer than any ordinary pub.
The menu is extensive - With choices like Roast Patridge wrapoped in bacon with cider gravy, Rabbit ragout pappardelle and sage roasted pork belly - it took us a really long time to decide what we wanted.

In the end, we went for:
Steak & Guinness pie - comes with mushy peas, very tasty. The gravy is really rich and the meat was so tender.
Fisherman's pie - delicious!!! Everything from the parmesan crusted mash, to the generous chunks of salmon, scallops and prawns... this dish was a winner. I could have had 2.
Cauliflower mash - good texture and well seasoned.
Bannoffie Sundae - we really didn't need dessert but couldn't help it. It looks a bit of a mess when it comes out, but it tastes incredible. Major sugar rush moment.

All in all, it was a great experience. The service is good - attentive and friendly but not overbearing, and the food is great. Definitely worth going back and trying more of the menu.
Fantastic spot for a lazy weekend lunch or dinner.

HK$570 between 2, including a couple of drinks.
