My previous dining experience in Fiat was, frankly speaking, good but hardly memorable. Even the famous fig with ricotta cheese failed to persuade me to come back. However, I found that many foodies tried its new menu these days; some of the new dishes look pretty appealing.

To begin with, we had French Beans, Goat Cheese Walnuts and Balsamic Bianco Salad. These were all usual ingredients of my home-made salad. Fresh French beans, creamy and tangy goat cheese, and walnuts was a classic, if a bit conservative, combination. The French beans were well cooked and crunchy. The portion of Balsamic Bianco dressing was perhaps so generous that some may not like it, however. A little bit of fine-tuning would make it a good appetizer.

Another appetizer I picked was fig and ricotta, which came with Parma ham this time. I happily found that a healthy portion of olive oil was added. Apparently, Fiat did take note of the comments. Ham was what you paid for. Ricotta was delicious as usual, but I was not lucky enough to get some really sweet figs.

Pecorino cheese spaghetti was one of the dishes on the menu that caught my attention. I certainly appreciate the choice of Pecorino cheese. The spaghetti were covered by the tangy Pecorino cheese and the cheddar nest went well with it. I finished the whole nest on my own, although it was slightly oily.

Mussels were cooked to perfect with a welcoming smell of butter. While the white wine sauce was not a “wow”. It was delicious enough for me to finish all the bread with it.

Desserts were the best of the night. Although both of them were rich in alcohol flavour, they were complex and moist for my liking. Galliano Syrup was added to the peaches to balance the wine taste and was topped with light vanilla cream.

My Affogato was more like tiramisu. I loved it very much. The mascarpone was creamy and the ladyfinger soaked with coffee and wine to the fullest. This dessert might be too strong in flavour to some people, but not me, a coffee and wine lover. If there was something to complain about, it was a bit soggy.

I must say Fiat had improved quite a lot, though things could be improved here and there. At least, I did not find the menu boring – this separates Fiat from many other Italian restaurants in the town. If I happen to be in Causeway Bay and want to have something causal, I will pay a visit here.

We Hong Kongers love nothing more than a bit of gimmicks, and Fiat Caffè, an Italian cafe at the car brand Fiat's showroom in Hong Kong, is definitely abound with novelty factor. This cafe opened in September 2012, and is located on Leighton Road, just off the heart of the shopping area of Causeway Bay.

Fiat Caffè, catered by Swire Hotels, is a small venue which only accommodates up to around 20 people. The brightly-lit restaurant has a casual set-up which overlooks the street views of Causeway Bay. As this is a cafe as opposed to a proper restaurant, the majority of the dishes are simple and light. Many ingredients are imported from Italy, and the cafe also serves illy coffee. Reservations can be made for dinner, but not for lunch or afternoon tea, and I was invited to have dinner at the restaurant to try some of the new items on the menu.

    (1) We started off with the Ricotta, figs, white truffle honey and olive oil ($95). The ingredients of the salad were not chopped up, so we had to do a bit of cutting and slicing ourselves. The figs were fresh and juicy, and the ricotta cheese and creamy and alluring. There was a mild, sensuous taste of white truffle and I wished it was a tad stronger!

    (2) Next, we ordered the Seared tuna, cauliflower, almonds hazelnut oil lemon dressing ($110). The seared tuna was chunky and delicious, and the almonds' crunch formed a nice contrast with the softness of the cauliflowers.

    (3) One of the signature dishes at Fiat Caffè is the Polpette meat balls, extra rich tomato sauce, riso and chopped parsley ($95). Riso means "rice" in Italian, and I love riso pasta as it is often smooth and fabulously springy if cooked properly. The pasta was cooked to the right consistency, and the tomato sauce was tangy with a mild spicy kick and a fresh taste of herbs.

The meat balls, which were made with beef and pork, had a bouncy texture and a good bite.

    (4) We also tried the Strozzapreti pasta, bottarga, lemon parsley and extra virgin olive oil ($185). Strozzapreti pasta is another type of pasta that I adore, as the pasta's curled up shape gives it an excellent texture. The semi-translucent orange slices were bottarga, which are pressed dried eggs of tuna or grey mullet. The bottarga was firm, sticky and a bit salty, as it was prepared by salting fish roes, leaving them to dry for a few days and then pressing them into an elongated shape. Bottarga has to be sliced thinly or sprinkled over pasta, otherwise the taste would be overwhelming. At Fiat Caffè, they have appropriately served the bottarga with pasta simply dressed in olive oil, so that there was enough room for the characteristics of the bottarga to shine. However, our only complaint was that the pasta was a bit dry and more olive oil could have been drizzled over it.

    (5) As the all-day menu is limited, there are a few Daily specials available at dinner. On the day we went, it was a rib-eye steak and a Seabass, zucchini, capsicum, balsamico ($145). This dish offered great value for money - priced at $145, there were two to three large pieces of seabass, which were well grilled, moist and tender. The balsamico dressing was very complementary with the fish, and the zucchini and capsicum, even though a tad oily, were vibrant and delectable.

    (6) A selection of Gelato Italiano ($40), with a Fiat car printed on the carton's cover, was available, and I went for the Caramel banana flavour. The gelato was airy and smooth, and could be easily scooped up. The taste of banana was fabulous.

    (7) The Affogato, Italian Lady Finger Biscuits, Orange Mascarpone ($60) is usually made with ice cream, so this affogato made with orange mascarpone was quite inspiring. Using illy coffee from Italy, the Affogato had a fine, bitter taste and the layering was well balanced, but the mascarpone could be lighter and less dense.

    (8) The Peaches, Galliano Syrup, Whipped Vanilla Cream and Almonds ($60) comprised of peaches immersed in Galliano syrup and topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream. I would personally prefer a dessert which is more substantial, but it was sweet and indulgent in its own way.

    (9) Lastly, I ordered a cup of Hot Cioccolata, hand whipped cream, almond ($35), and it was thick and creamy, finished off with a few delicate slices of almond.

The cafe only offers a small selection of dishes, but the ones I tried were all reasonably accomplished. Even though the seating in this small venue is not the most luxurious or comfortable, the prices are reasonable and the restaurant doesn't impose a 10% service charge on the bill. Most importantly, Fiat Caffè's location in a car showroom and its car theme certainly helps it stand out from some other eateries in the area!

Thanks to the lovely cheerful team at Fiat for inviting me to try their new Italian dishes.

I have previously dined at Fiat when they opened last year.

At this tasting session, we tried most of the new signature items.

    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared tuna, cauliflowers, almonds, hazelnut oil, lemon dressing:

I loved this salad because it tangy seared tuna balanced by the delicious hazelnuts.
Not many salads have hazelnuts so this was a real treat.
The cauliflower was nice and soft and there were crispy pieces of bread that add crisp to the salad.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Slow cooked cod fish, mixed capers, shallots, lemon, fried garlic and herbs:

This salad was green and grassy which brought out the flavour of the cod.
The cod is sliced thinly and tasted really nice with the salad.
The red leaves in the salad gave it a nice visual touch.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Portobello mushrooms, castelmagno cheese, artichoke, mint and fava beans:

This was my favourite because it had all my favourite items.
The mushroom was nicely grilled and extremely juicy, the cheese was very crumbly and floury but not that cheesy.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Polpette meat balls with extra rich tomato sauce, rice shaped pasta and chopped parsley:

This was one of my favourites because the rice shaped pasta was delicious. It was similar to eating rice but it was slightly softer and al-dente.
The tomato sauce was rich and tangy too with lots of parsley too and paired nicely with the minced meat balls.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
“Cacio e pepe” spaghetti, black pepper, pecorino cheese and olive oil:

The appearance of this was interesting, the spaghetti was contained in a dish that was made of fried cheese.
It is similar to the chinese taro nest made of grated taro, but here it was grated cheese made into a bowl.

The spaghetti was heavily spiced with black pepper which balanced out the cheesyness of the cheese.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blue mussels, white wine, onion and parsley:

The mussels were plump and fresh and not the frozen ones.
The white wine sauce was full of flavour and made every mussel a star.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Peaches, Galliano syrup, whipped vanilla cream and almonds:
To end the gorgeous meal, this dessert was light and dreamy especially the whipped vanilla cream and the crunchy almonds.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Affogatto, Italian lady finger bisciuits, orange mascarpone:
This was delicious and the alcohol in this was really strong and the affogatto concoction was extremely creamy.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Honey figs margarita:

I have never tried a drink with figs so this was worth trying and it was non-alcoholic too.
When it came, it was pink garnished with a sprig of mint on top.
I was worried it would be quite sweet but it turned out really nice with crushed figs at the bottom of the drink.
The drink was really refreshing and not syrupy followed by the lovely fizzyness of the carbonated water.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Home marinated limes, cinnamon, cloves, cane sugar:
For cinnamon lovers, the cinnamon taste and smell is strong and very different to cinnamon powder.
They serve a whole cinnamon stick/quill in the drink.

The marinated lime was not sour and the drink was quite sweet as a whole.

    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Tea by Forte:
Compared to my previous visit, the tea is now served in a ceramic cup and not in a tall glass which is an improvement and brings out the full tea flavour.
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Fiat is part of the Swire group where they take catering seriously, and it is really nice to have casual Italian food every now and again in a fun environment.

However for improvements, the table could be more spacious.

The salt and pepper grinders and the cutlery holder seem to take up some space on the table.
Since my last visit, this seems to be the only improvement I want to see because their food is great.

mamamia great Italian cookies Smile Oct 09, 2012

Yes, we went over to Fiat Caffe for chaser after the big brunch at Fung Shing this morning.
We ordered coffee, cappuccino and assortment of Italian cookies. Coffee and cappuccino arrived first. They were ok, nothing to brag about except they offered top quality La Perruche sugar which i must give them credit for attention to details. (one 5 star hotel in town use packed sugar...) BUT Wait..the Italian cookies were outstanding. The macaroons with chocolate mousse dipped in dark chocolate was heavenly- not too sweet with great almond flavor. The fruit biscotti had interesting texture which when dipped in coffee, was made for each other. The cone shaped almond macaroons tasted honest and not some look alike as in other shops.

Go for the Italian cookies when you visit this cute coffee shop.

    Daily Menu -
I have already reviewed here previously, this is a re-review of some of the NEW or likable Fiat Caffe dishes.

    .

    bowlRed Wine -
    Italian wine.

    .

bowlFigs with White Truffle Honey and Ricotta - $80
I like this combination of flavours but the white truffle is not so apparent, and the honey is over-poweringly sweet. I think the combination of Sheep Ricotta vs Honey really needs judiscial judgment to bring out the best. ~ 6.5/10

    .

bowlFried Pancetta, Tomato, Fried Egg and Truffle - $70
This sounded promising, but somehow the Pancetta flavour was overwhelmed by the sour tomatoes, and the truffle influence was muted. Needs more balance. Could have been great. ~ 6/10

    .

bowlSardines and Toasted Sourdough - $70
Haven't seen this for a while now, but it was one of the BEST dishes here. With fatty and meaty sardines, served with a capers mayo and tomato sauce. Hope they bring it back 1 day. ~ 9/10

    .

    bowlSpaghetti with Duck, Tomato -
A bit ordinary. Not much sophistication in terms of recipe. But edible. ~ 6/10

    .

bowlWhite and Green Asparagus, Poached Egg, Salted Pork Neck and Truffled Butter - $90
This was great. everything worked well together. The truffle paste butter with the runny egg-yok was a match in heaven. The twin asparagus sprigs were cooked well and not fibrous. Addictive stuff especially with the salty pork neck. *Asparagus are not in season in the Northern Hemisphere but they can be sourced down South, but it works well with the truffle component somehow. ~ 9/10

    .

bowlShrimp with Radicchio, Basil and Linguine - $85
Pastas here were never that great, but as time goes by it has improved!! The linguine was finally not limpy but cooked spot-on, and for the price a lot of prawn was given. The Radicchio and Basil balanced the meal. This was quite good and didn't tasted all localized Hong Kong at least by execution. Good job. ~ 7.5/10

    ******************************
Overall, you can spend under $100-$150 per person here on average, and there is no 10% surcharge. The food is done adequately but not exceptional, but then again as a Caffe, it was always meant to be daily approachable!

Feeling fatigue and drowsy sad after getting my new pair of glasses in Causeway Bay and on medication due to foot injuries. So this time we would like to have a meal in a relaxing environment just like that in Fiat Caffé.

Fiat as you all may have known is an Italian car brand and it opened a café in the middle of Causeway Bay!! shocked The café is so close to Time Square where all the hustle and bustling are and I cannot believeshocked such oasis exists until Adorable leads me to the place. smile
    A Big Logo!
    A Big Logo!

The place is where a car dealer situated and the café itself is covered up by the cars outside (so that’s why no one finds this spot!!! lol). The place is very tranquil and we are the second pair of customers in the café. The cuisine served in the café is Italian, and we ordered: A dinner set including: 1) Broad beans dill Risotto, 2) Minestrone, 3) Italian salad and Branded gelato (XTC: One of our favorite ice cream brands!) and a meat ball with extra tomato sauce dill risotto.

The Minestrone came first and the portion is small but of good quality smile. Italian salad is okay and not much special. However, the broad beans dill Risotto and the meat ball with extra tomato sauce dill risotto are al dente mad. The sauce is rich in flavor mad and rice is very tangy mad. Meat balls are handmade and you will never feel that it is the type that you taken from the refrigerator smile.

After we had the main dishes, Adorable enjoyed her Gelato and I had order a nice cup of mocha after meal. smileThe experience is fine and relaxing as we are surrounded by expensive cars shocked in a quiet place and in a bustling Causeway Bay.

Dinner with Husband Just OK Jul 20, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
We were here early so we didn't have to wait for a long time.

The spaghetti was one of the few mains that were available in the menu. the taste is normal, portion is average size, not very big / too small.

I had a pan fried salmon, it was cooked to the right tenderness, but the portion for this main was not very filling.

we didn't order any dessert / coffee, as we didn't have a very good experience from the main.

Because I was looking at what others are eating and then it looks better than it taste. Overall the meal size was smaller than average, and the selection are limited.
I would recommend you to come to try it once. Not going to come back in the near future. Got a lot of other good restaurant that is much better than here.

heard that this a combined showroom and restaurant , so we gave it a try. there were 3 cars o display. quite interesting though we are not Fiat fans.

    fig, recotta cheese & honey:
the ingredients were perfect match. it's nth special if u taste individual ingredients alone, but it's indeed delicious if u mix and eat them together! a pity that the figs were not sweet though. more honey preferred.

    see bass with mixed vegetables:
the fish was nice and crispy with the sauce i like (oilve oil + balsamic vinegar). love it!

    iced chocolate:
    strong chooclate flavour. good.

a pity that they 漏單, 沒有落pasta ge order....

the service was good. waiters had good smile smile

by the way, the tables for 2 people are too small...

As petite as their Model 500 Just OK May 03, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I'm not a fan of Fiat, nor do I understand what cafe has to do with cars or vice versa. But since the reviews all seem positive, I thought there was no harm in giving it a try, especially when the comment of "good coffee" caught my eye.

So here I am this sunny afternoon, walking into a car showroom for my lunch.

The cafe was half empty at 12.30 but quickly filled up in the next 10 minutes or so. We had a 4-person table which was frankly a little challenging even for us 4 petite signoras. Hence, it was surprising to see a lot of male customers, I guess the car theme is just irresistable.

After a quick scan of the menu, I decided to opt for the set lunch. At $95, one gets soup or salad, a choice of pasta dish, tea/coffee. Dessert is $30 extra.
    Smoked duck and arugula salad

    Fusilli with chorizo

My smoked duck and arugula salad was good: fresh veg, right amount of dressing, decent amount of leaves and meat.

The slightly spicy fusilli with chorizo was tasty. The pasta was al dente, and it even had freshly grated parmesan on top. But but but why such a small portion? Decidedly un-Italian in that respect. I glanced around and wondered once again how men could put up with the portions. My friend ordered a panini from the a la carte menu and the surface of that panini was no bigger than 2 iPhones. If "diet queen" said it was small, then IT WAS SMALL... So the "small is beautiful" philosophy applies to the entire menu it seems.
    Tiny panini
    Tiny panini

I had no choice but to order the daily dessert which turned out to be a dry and (yes) tiny piece of chocolate cake, it was no bigger than 2"x3"x1". As for the coffee, my espresso was ok, but friend's iced latte was yummy.

The quality of the food is really not bad here, but come on, inflight meal portion is just bordering on ridiculous.

There are not many car themed restaurants in Hong Kong, although they are getting increasingly popular.
Not long after this was opened there is now one in Central which features Mini's called Mini dans la Ville.

Anyway checked this place out with IVYCWK.

When we got there it was already full and lots of people were waiting for tables.
In the Cafe, there were many Fiat related items for sale such as gear stick nobs and other mechanical bits.

The only disappointment was that there was only one table near the entrance which was actually a partial car, the rest were normal tables and chairs.

I just felt that for a car themed restaurant, there should be more of these car themed tables.

Finally sat down and ordered a panini and a Sardines bruschetta.
The table for two was so small that the two basic items we ordered and drinks could not be all placed on the table.
Luckily the waitors were extremely attentative and helpful, they helped us put the food on smaller plates to fit on the table.

Ricotta cheese, egg and anchovy panini
I really liked the panini, especially the cheese which was white, and the egg inside the panini was not overdone.
The anchovies were there to give it some flavour.

Nostromo sardine with dill caper mayonnaise and tomato sauce
We ordered this because the presentation was fun!
Usually the fish comes from the tin and here they have put the sauces in the tin and the sardines intact on top of the bruschetta.
The Sardines tastes like the usual sardines but without the tomato sauce and it was slightly drenched in olive oil.
It was fun with the sauce in the tin.
The dill caper mayonnaise was my favourite, it was evidently creamy and there were lots of dill in the sauce which can be visually seen.
The tomato sauce tasted like pizza sauce but it was sligthly too sweet for my liking.

    Tea by tea forte
The tea itself was exquisite, especially the packaging.
However it could have been served better because the tea and water was served separately so by the time you put the teabag in the glass the water is not hot enough.
Secondly the tea should be served in a tea cup or a tea pot because the amount of water that was in the tall glass is nearly twice as much as a tea cup which will make the tea bland.
Thirdly this tea bag is different to other teabags because there is a hook at the top and keeps the tea bag afloat and given the tall glass, the tea bag could not diffuse properly with the water.

    Cute Salt and Pepper grinders

As well as the exquisite tea, I found these grinders quite cute by Drogheria & Alimentari

I have been waiting for it to open for a long time. Finally went in to have a try for the first time yesterday.

First arrived and warmly welcomed by cafe staff smile. The menu has a number of choices, but very easy to follow. The items are not pricey at all, actually compared to others, quite cheap. $25 for a cup of latte is far better than the others.

I have ordered a meatball riso and a cup of latte. The meatball riso is their signature dish, and it is very good!!!. The combination of sweet and sour of the pasta sauce is excellent. Of course, can't miss out the meatball, they are juicy and full of herbal aroma. Though this is my first time having riso, I fall in love with this type of pasta. It is just so good, definitely an recommeded item! 果然名不虚傳! ........Shame on me....forgot to take photos of the pasta.

Other than the pasta, the latte is also graded A+. I love the milk they use for the latte, so smooth and blended very well with the coffee. The presentation is amazing, the latte art always make me feel loved.

Heard a lot of good comment on this Caffe and so asked my friend to go with me.
    - daily soup was ok
    - cold cut platter was ok - the best was the pickled
    - risotto was cold and very italian style (hard)
    - fish was good!
didn't stayed for dessert as everything was just ok.
it wasn't bad but just not as good as i expected... plus everything is about tomato...
