Actually the dining date passed by for a long time, but it was significant! So I need to be recalled all those food and beverage........ and also the ambience now Here's my first post and it was the first dating with my dear. Some staffs would escort you during getting into the restaurant. We were arranged to sit on the sofa area and the setting was rare in the general dining outlets. And the colour option between decoration and furniture are consistent...... so it was cozy and really nice! For the food and beverage, our starter and entree were goose liver, salmon, steak and seabass. And we chose cream brulee and souffle for the dessert. Most of them are good especially the cream brulee with coffee flavour!! Besides.. a birthday napoleon is presented to my dear... the VIP on that day! The cake is crispy but it can be better. But...... I DO APPRECIATE the coordination of Amigo personnel because I have requested so much when I made reservation

This old place is always good for any generations. The elegant decor make it wins. The menu is basically the same everytime, just regular french cuisine, don't expect any suprise. People used to go there for bday and anniversary, like what i do. The last time i went there is for my sis's bday, amigo will provide u a free birthday cake along wiv the live birthday song. They sing really gd tho. I did count for the number of birthday song that i listened in that night, is 8. 8 tables were celebratling bday in a restaurant. Oh one thing, many people recommeded the napoleon cake, but for me is just ok, not as gd as i thought. Other Ratings: Taste 3 | Environment 5 | Service 3 | Hygiene 3 | Value for Money 3

Killerwhale (Non-member) | I am writing this review in order to express my humble opinion about this supposed to be good restaurant. We had a simple Saturday lunch at Amigo and I ordered a set set which costs around 300. To be very honest, everything is really not near a good restaurant standard. I really mean it. All the food tests like simple 茶餐廳. I seriously doubt if there would be any difference for dinner. Hope it helps for those who might consider going there. AC (Non-member) | It was an amazing experience! Oct 31 was my girfriend birthday, i booked a table at Amigo for dinner. We walked into the restaurant at 7:45pm, window sit. We order two "3-course' set. The food is good and the arrangement of the restaurant setting is very romatic. The waiters are very friendly and one of the waiters help us to take care of the flower so that we do not have to worry about it while we enjor the dinner. One thing that worth to mention was that every lady in the room receive a rose from the restaurant with their special package with the lable of Amigo, i think it was such a great idea! Moreover, i specail request the restaurant to print "Happy Birthday" on the note pack as a specail gift to my grilfriend and they really did it! It was a supprise ! I think Amigo is really a wonderful restaurant as they consider much of what their customer want and need! I think i will go there again! Recommended Dish(es):

McQueen (Non-member) | Had lunch with colleagues here recently. Overall the service, deco, food was maintained at the quality few years ago. 50% occupied during lunch time. We ordered from the lunch set menu, number of choices was modest. Serving portion of the lunch was just enough, but presentation could have been better Dessert and drinks were quite generous, you can order house wine for your set lunch, and can change dessert to the famous Nepolean cake. Complimentary chocolate / ice-cream was really good. Atmosphere is fine for day time. Haven't been to Amigo for a couple of years, but I do have fond memories of this Hong Kong institution... not because of the food, but because of the warm atmosphere , and its very trying and sometimes amusingly pretentious service. I was being adventurous and ordered the oyster soup with puff pastry as my starter. I instantly knew the gamble paid off when I cut open the puff pastry. The soup (which was a consommé) totally tasted like the freshness of oysters, and the puff pastry was also cooked to perfection (mind you, it's not all that easy to cook through all the layers of the puff pastry on top of a soup and I've tasted too many raw pastries before). Apart from 2 very fresh and plump oysters, they also put in a generous amount of shaved black truffle which enhanced the fragrance of the oysters. I was not so lucky with the main course. I thought I picked a safe option, braised ox-tail in red wine, but it wasn't what I expected at all. First of all they left the skin (and obviously the fat between the skin and the meat) on, and this had prevented the oxtail from absorbing the flavour of the red wine during the braising process. To make things worse, the sauce was starchy (can't they add use more butter?) and lack flavours. I wasn't allowed to choose my own dessert as the hostess had already ordered a birthday cake for the whole table to share, and surprise surprise, it's Amigo's signature cake - The Napoleon. It tasted OK and the pastries were very crunchy and fresh, but for me it's a little too dry and could do with a bit more custard or cream. Despite the below-par food, it would still have been an enjoyable evening had the valet parking guy not made us wait for over 20 mins just to get our car back. So.... AM-I-GOing back to this restaurant again? I'm really not sure, but one thing I'm sure of is that I won't be bringing my car should I be going back there! Recommended Dish(es):

It was another wedding anniversary, so I chose Amigo from my shortlist again. As usual, the service was impeccable, the sommelier and the experienced waiters knew when to serve and when to disappear. We started with the Foie Gras which were crispy and tender, but it would be better if the chef spend some additional effort to make them less oily. The Bisque D Escargot was a bit salty but acceptable. Surprisingly, it was a very good match with the Sauvignon Blanc we brought there. The lime sorbet was refreshing as usual but it was definitely not my cup of tea (I know it is only my problem). While we waited for our main course, the live trio asked me to pick a song but dramatically, nothing came into my mind at that moment. I tried to dig into my brain but embarrassingly, I was speechless but only capable of making meaningless sound like “er….”and “hm…..”s. Finally, I surrendered. I told them the occasion and let them handle the rest. The singer with the guitar nodded his head and whispered with his mates for a few seconds then they began to sing the song of “You're my everything”. Ironically, that was one of my favorite songs which fits the occasion perfectly too. In the end, I gave them a generous tip for their creativeness. After the lovely song, the waiters served me with mutton and wagyu for my wife. The mutton was just good and made it a perfect match with my brought in 1999 Chateau Palmer. I did not try the Wagyu but according to my wife, it was made perfectly. We completed our meal with Mango Flambee, Mango Napoleon and the aromatic coffee. It was such a pleasant night. Personally , I like the restarant called Amigo Amigo is a refreshing memory for me, I like it equal to the feeling of loving a girl in 1997 , equal to Hong Kong in 1997. Why? Searching my memory, I found that the most delicious french style food and most expensive restaurant several years ago is Amigo/ Hugo/ and some in different famous hotels Nowaday , it is changed Extraordinary expensive (EE) restaurant that either selling style / location/ interior design/ fame of cook/ star count of Michellin bank out in everywhere in Hong Kong. Taste might be eyecatching in these EE restaurant, but for while, not for life Amigo still serving us silently like an old mother. I said she might not be to one providing the most enlightening / interesting presentation of food like Nobu; she might be presenting a perfect traditional food as Pertus. She serve us with most fresh and heartful food From every old aged waiter to every visible decoration is full of feeling from the deepest place of the owner of the restaurant. I guess and I felt that night If one have only a lover that for life, then I'll suggest you to invite her to this restaurant and not the casual girlfriend! DC (Non-member) | went to amigo lastnite with my gf for dinner, i was alitle bit over estimated about the place, food and service. first the place was nice not as so romantic as i thought, maybe the light was too bright and the surrounding was noisy.. secondly, the food was i couldn't say they were stunning that i must be back again for it, i could only say it was good. we had their mushroom salad for starter, then lobster bist and she had the escargot i had the foiegras, for main course i had the fish with pama ham rapped with baked oyster and she had the roasted chicken. plus a bottle of red wine and for dessert we had their nepolian cake to share. finally i want to talk about their service, most of the waiters were only polite knew the proceedures of serving food but they were lacking smiles on their faces, sincereness and careness was not enough and a bit cold, if you know what i mean. there was a waiter only him thanks to mr. gong it was very nice of him for taking tons of pics for us around the resturant. anyways, the bill came up to $2035, over all my exprience at amigo was alright. i think i won't be back again cos for this price range i think i can get better else where. but what can i say, this is hk can't expect too much on the service.. Did ask 2 colleagues where to go for a romantic dinner and they both named AMIGO. The atmosphere is romantic and the decoration is classic. Even the menu had pictures of painting on it. We ordered caviar and a set dinner for sharing. Caviar - can be served either with toast or pancake but finally we bargained to have both served. Goose liver - large piece enough for two to share, and the cook is just perfect. The eaten piece would melt inside the mouth. StoneClam Chowder Soup - cooked right besides your table and served hot. The clam piece is huge. Lasagna w/ Prawn and Scallop - The prawn and scallop was fresh and tasty but the lasagna was a little chewy for us. grapefruit sorbet - small ball in a classic cup. birthday cake - with candle and specially made with darling's name on it. At this stage, the cake was little heavy for us as we were already full. Chocolate Mousse - chocolate pudding came with chocolate balls with mint core. Tea - a good refreshment after the dessert. There was sufficient waiters to make the service attentive. The live band would sing in front of your table and could sing most of the songs (even chinese ones). Considering the atmosphere and food quality, I would say the set dinner is a bargain. A good place for celebration on special day.

Sweetheart (Non-member) | I had French onion soup to start, fettucine as entree and Napolean cake for dessert. French onion soup was OK. Fettucine was good. Napoleon cake was good but a little bland. Overall, it was good but overrated; definitely did not qualify as gastronomic. Price was up there, though, so I feel it was a little overpriced. Service was attentive. However, my silverware was put in the wrong place and they gave me an appetizer fork for entree (when I asked to change to the entree one, the waiter did what I asked but at the same time said "well the entree fork is not much bigger anyways"), which gave me the idea the waiters there weren't exactly professionals. They also liked to talk to each other, something I observed over the 2-hour dinner. The decor is minimalist and yes, romantic. It has an impact on diners' behavior - patrons spoke rather softly which made a quiet atmosphere. I can't say this dining environment is common in HK. It's a positive. Amigo with its long history as one of the finest restaurants in town is still offering its tradition of fine dining. The atmosphere is superb and the service is impeccable .The choices of entree are listless. Fois gras (goose liver) is just so tempting that even with high blood cholesterol level, it is still a must. Instead of tartare, it has an addictive dish of Mongolian raw beef. The wine list ... maybe we should call in a wine book ... will serve every connoisseur.
