Dessert Time Just OK May 01, 2013
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
After having dinner nearby, we were looking for a place to get some dessert. We had thought about going to Smile for some frozen yogurt, but the long line and no seats or place to stand, we decided to move on. Holly Brown had a few people outside waiting for seats, but we decided to try it anyways. We were seated and given menus, once we knew what we wanted, we had to line up to place the orders. No big deal as this is just some higher priced cafe place.

I stood and waited for the ice cream as 2 staff members were busy fulfilling everyone's orders on the cold stone. The ice cream and toppings weren't mixed well together and they looked like they weren't putting much effort in. I figured they are just tired since there were so many people. So once my order is done I just bring it back to my table. We were four people and had all ordered the same size with different toppings. Then we noticed that the size were way off.

As you can see, both were suppose to be the same size, yet one is clearly much more than the other. The ice cream itself as ok, but could have had more of the flavor taste instead of the milk taste. The cone wasn't crunchy, probably due to them being not fresh and/or just stored badly.

One of the staff came by our table while we were eating and mumbled something quickly before leaving. We think that he was telling us to eat faster and leave as there were others waiting. Definitely rude as we were still not done and the table next to us who had sat down earlier were still eating and he didn't say anything. This is what we believed he had said but cannot be sure as it was just quietly mumbled, but based on his hand gestures and facial expression, that is what we concluded. We didn't ask him anything and he just came by.

I would have a hard time coming back here as it is overpriced for what it is, ingredients are not fresh and you just have to test your luck to see if you will be served what you payed for or a lot less. Maybe in the future if I am around at a time when the place isn't packed I'll reconsider, but as of now, I would recommend you to look elsewhere, packed and pricey doesn't equal to good.
    Supplementary Information:
I'm not sure how long Holly Brown has been around, but I believe it is somewhat new. This is basically the copied version of Coldstone but with lesser quality ice cream. I don't think Coldstone is around Hong Kong, but if you are ever in another country that has it and you like Holly Brown, you should try it.

Today is a public holiday, that's why we had to wait for about 10 mins before we could find a table for two. We ordered a strawberry ice cream waffle and a coffee. Everything looks so nice and perfect, the environment, the food and the drinks.

We waited for about 8 mins, then the drink came. The coffee was quiet good. After about 10 mins, the waffle came. It looked really nice, and couldn't wait to dig in. When I cut the waffle I then realised the bottom side was burnt. Actually all four pieces were a bit burnt. I didn't complain cos it was too busy and I didn't want to wait for another 10 mins. The waffles wasn't actually as nice as it looked. They were quite bland, it didn't have any fragrant taste or smell at all. The ice cream was very average too. Many brands is much better than this.

    Supplementary Information:
From the overall appearance of this cafe, I expected much more than this. The food looks wonderful, but does not taste as good as it looks. I may return for it's coffee, but not for the ice creams or waffles especially for this price.

    I ordered a waffle with chocolate+strawberry ice-cream. it costs 75.
though it's a bit over-priced, it was GREAT.
the waffle tasted very good with companion of the chocolate ice-cream. one hot one cold and they just matched perfectly.
the chocolate sauce and honey provided made the waffle extremely delectable. well, my taste bud begged me for more of that.
the environment is good, though the place is a bit small. the location is very good; easy to find.
the staff is so-so, they are quite dumb honestly

wanna come everyday Smile Aug 28, 2011

    before leaving hong kong,
i wanna meet some friends who i thought were important in my life.
we arrived here and waited for quite a long time to order one large gelato and one honey toast.

i chose apple pie gelato which was very sweet,
but tasted better than haagen daaz cake flavor ice cream,
very satisfying taste and i discovered biscuit crumbs and apple small cubes inside.

    caramel sauce was too there,
and i chose chocolate sauce plus brownie plus strawberries as toppings.
    brownie was very very nice,

full of chocolate taste but not being too sweet,
but if they could add some walnut inside it would be better.
    strawberries were not fresh ones,
    not really tasting very good,
the honey toast was very hot enough,
and amount of honey was just good,
    toast was very crispy,

    i love the texture.
the chocolate gelato tasted very wonderful,
    cuz it was bitter!!!
that in haagen daaz was like eating sugar,
but this was really super dark chocolate and could be pulled out long.
the chocolate sauce on dish was quite beautiful but too sweet,

but good to help you finish the whole toast.
mint ice cream was not as good as what i've thought,
but not too strong in taste.
both was very very delicious but a bit too expensive if not sharing with my friend.
hope to try coffee gelato or large size fry chocolate gelato again with brownie and chocolate sauce.

    "World's Best Coffee" Smile Jun 22, 2011

If you have money to spend, then look no further because this is it. I finally the place to enjoy the Kopi Luwak. Last time I tried it at a 5-6 star hotel and the taste cannot compare.

This place is bit hidden away but once you find it is easy to get dropped off and wide pedestrian path. I wanted to try the Kopi Luwak and this gave me the ticket to be seated in the VIP corner which requires a minimum spending of HK$200 per head.

As for the coffee it is just the best, the flavour so intense and strong and lasting after taste. Words is hard to describe how good it is but having tried blue mountain before this is incomparable. The Barista explained to me the process and he is very knowledgeable.

Since it was lunch time I also grabbed a chicken and avocado panini and I was equally impressed.

Delicious Gelato Smile May 09, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
A friend recommended me to try Holly Brown for its coffee but today I felt like having a gelato.
I ordered a Mint AMor $48 for a small with a waffle. The staff mixed the gelato on a cold freeze stone-interesting.
The end result didn't look attractive but very delicious, mixed with oreo and mint.
When I win the lottery I will try their VIP corner $200 per head to try the exclusive range of coffees

After settling the cake with Hugo's, we went to Holly Brown@K11 for a short break before the meal-of-the-day. It was quite hard to locate as it was tucked away at the other end of K11, instead of at the easily accessible podium. The place was cosy and it was not very busy as we go at six.

We did not want to eat too much so we shared an order of frozen yogurt. We tasted a sample of the wild berry flavour and it was sour and refreshing - perfect before a delicious and satisfying evening that was coming. We could pick one toppings and we had the raspberry to go with the froyo.

With the combination of the two, theres no way the froyo would not be sour! The first spoonful of it was mind-refreshing enough, but the sourness was within my range of acceptance. The raspberry compote was nice - perfect for a summer afternoon after a sweaty walk. I didnt like the yogurt however as it was too ice-like and not smooth enough. It resembled sorbet more than ice-cream. But it was good, flavourful and yummy to eat. Its just that it tasted too much like sorbet. and charging $38 for froyo and one topping is a bit too expensive.

As we slowly ate in more customers came in and ordered gelato. I watched with envious eyes as i hoped i could, too, enjoy a cup of that very delicious thing served on a freshly waffle cup. I was very interested in trying their toasts as well - thickly cut and topped with fruits and gelato, they look luxuriously nice.

Would come again to HB for stuff other than its coffee soon I hope smile
