Little surprise Smile Apr 22, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
After a map search on openrice we discovered this little restaurant so close to home, which was perfect for a rainy Friday night. We were a little surprised with the high prices, but the quality of the food mostly made up for it. We started with oyster shooters which were yummy. We had the mushroom soup which was thick and tasty. The parma ham bruschetta which was very good, but overpriced for 3 pieces of bread. We all had pasta for main course and they were all fresh and tasty, the risotto was the favorite. The portions were quite small for the price. We had apple crumble for desert and it was very good. Coffees to finish were unfortunately a disappointing end to a good meal. Service was good and staff very pleasant.

Overall I would recommend for diners in the Sheung Wan area, but be aware that you’ll likely need to order an entree, main and desert to be full.

Seafood night!  Smile Apr 15, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
My girlfriend and I LOVE seafood! The other day we were surfing the net and came across Serenade, at first we had doubts in whether or not to try this because there weren’t a lot of reviews but we still went to try it since its kinda close to where we work.

When we got there, there weren’t a lot of people which was good caz we both hate crowded, noisy places. It’s a cosy, warm restaurant, I think it’s perfect for couples! We ordered a seafood platter as our entrée, absolutely love it! It includes oysters, crab and snails, they were well presented and oh-so-fresh! I wish they had more in a platter, we couldn’t get enough! Soo sooo good! We also had a basket of bread which was still hot and soft, we didn’t have much of the bread caz we were afraid we won’t have enough space for other yummy food! Oh almost forgot we had a salmon salad, it was good, nothing too exciting here but still good.

We also ordered linguini with clams and geoduck and the lamb rack. Both were great! We were afraid that the lamb rack wouldn’t be good because not all restaurants can do a good job in making the lamb rack and we don’t like it to be overcooked. To my surprise, the lamb rack was so amazing that even my girlfriend wouldn’t stop praising it! Arghh..my mouth is watering now just by talking about it. And the linguini is very tasty too! Their seafood were all so fresh!!

Although we were already full after the mains but we still wanted to try out the dessert. We had the chocolate molten cake and also the crème brulee. Both were above average! We were sooo full and could barely move but were also very happy for having such good food with reasonable pricing!!

Overall the food here were amazingly good, I wouldn’t expect such restaurant with not many smiles on openrice would be that great! I would say this is a must-go restaurant! We will DEFINTELY come back AGAIN!

We reserved a table to celebrate two birthdays about a month ago. When we arrived we were seated at a tight table where we struggled to get in because of the wine racks right above our heads. Finally, we asked to be moved to the other side which is a bit more roomier. chopstickIt all started with our appetizer. We got the seafood platter which was delicious and fresh and it arrived in a timely manner (because it doesn't require any cooking). I ordered a soup and a salad. However, my salad came first because the waiter decided for me that I should eat my soup as my entree. I thought he should have at least ask but whatever. (This isn't the most frustrating part) During the courses of our meals, we had to constantly ask for refills for water and bread. We waited for 45 minutes after we finished our appetizer before our entrees arrived. My friends ordered the pan seared australian ocean trout and when it came, it was salmon. When we inquired about it to the waiter, he was just like "trout is the same thing as salmon" and when my friend further inquired, waiter was just like "do you want to see the menu again?" huffyWow...was that rude or what? I expect a bit more professionalism and hospitality. Not to mention the menu was a bit misleading - Though trout is a salmon species but trout is not the same as salmon.

chopstick seafood platter - The only dish that was enjoyable; seafood was fresh and well-presented
chopstick bread - though it was free; bread are only standard, nothing spectacular
chopstick the Australian trout fillet (or should I say salmon fillet) and Cod with caviar were both below expectation. The fish was not cooked thoroughly in the mid section. The risotto was extremely salty.
chopstick Caesar salad- could have used a bit more lettuce; dressing was standard; served with bacon bits (not freshly made), Parmesan cheese and croûtons
chopstick lobster bisque tasted like regular tomato soup

Furthermore, I asked for more bread to go with my SOUP ENTREE ... It never came. The waitress asked if i still wanted the bread after I was done with my soup. (Seriously?) sad

Further to our frustration, we brought cupcakes for the birthday girls. So we asked the waitress if there are cake cutting charges..waitress said "no but it's a $100". At that point, I have had enough so we just asked for the bill and took our bday celebration elsewhere.
    Summary:
Price - 3/10 (7pax for HKD3000 (including 10% service charge included for SUBSTANDARD service; corkage for 2 bottles = $150each)
    Food - 2/10
    Service - 2/10
    Ambiance - 2/10
Needless to say, we will not be back.
    The only dish I'd recommend

Excellent Seafood and service Smile Nov 12, 2011

My friends and I had dinner in Serenade last Tuesday. We get there around 7:30pm. We plan to have seafood that night. the first dish we had are raw oyster. It was fresh. Perfect balance between salty and sweet. It was a thumb up. After that we had snow crab and mantis shrimp (peeing shrimp). The shrimp is huge, fresh and juicy. They are served as cold dishes. The crab was fresh and the meat is sweet. the we had lobster bisque. Rich and well balanced in flavor (lobster, tomato and brandy is well balanced). We also had pasta with clam. Then we finished with steak and lamb where both are cooked to medium rare. Definitely the food is good and thumbs up!

Love this place! It's a quaint, quiet place with excellent food and service! I loved my waitress she was incredibly attentive - and after my dinner she even suggested that I could stay to use their free WIFI to do work. The wine is fantastic! If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of SoHo, Lan Kwai Fong - nestled smugly in Sheung Wan this is your place!

Small and Cozy Place Smile Mar 22, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I have dined with friends and business assoicates at Serenade couple of times and each visit has been a pleasant experience.
Therefore I would like to share this with anyone looking for something different in terms of fine dining as unlike many big restaurants in Hong Kong, Serenade is a small, boutique like place located in a quiet neighbourhood with cosy , friendly atmosphere and attentive service that you don't find in many restaurants these days. The menu has reasonable selection from appetizers to mains and desserts. Quality of food is pretty high and I particulalry like the entree portion which is just enough so as to leave room for dessert. I was also surprised to find good selection of both the red and white wines especially they have my favourite Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc .
Try to go early as they have daily Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm where you get half dozen oysters when you order a bottle of wine !
And you also get to meet and chat with their chef at the bar..
Last but not least, with its size it is an ideal place to host a small private party as you get to book the whole place to yourself.

Living at the end of Hollywood Rd my wife and I decided to have a bite near by. A short stroll and we came accross this pretty little place. The decor was modern but has a rustic feel. We started off with fresh Irish rock oysters and some mussels with a brusseta and procuito. Everything was fresh and tasty and melted in the mouth. For mains we had pesto penne chicken and crab meat linguine. Both dishes were nice and tasty the extra cheese topping made all difference.

For dessert I ordered the hot soufflé and the creme brûlée both amazing deserts. The coffee topped off a great dinner. The waitess gave us the bill and it came to about $500 which I thought was good value with the two glasses of red we ordered. Definietly be back.
