    A Lovely Meal  Smile Jul 24, 2012

I booked Entourage two weeks in advance to celebrate my 21st birthday with 14 friends. The manager was very friendly, and emailed me a set menu for my consideration. One day prior to the event, I called and asked if I could have the Chef's Table and they said it would be no problem. The service here is very friendly, and extremely efficient. When I arrived, my table was ready and I was immediately offered the menu and the wine list. I had brought three bottles of wine, and the waiter was happy to store it for me. I placed my order, and the food was served very soon after that. All the food was still hot, which is always a good sign. The overall dining environment is very good and I had a really good time.

The sauce goes very well with the fish which is cooked very nicely. My only disappointment was that the waiter took the encrusted seabream away too quickly and I could not take a picture.

Full of flavour, very creamy, and beautifully presented.

We also had the mussels which were goodsmilesmilesmile.

My only complaint was that I wanted to have the full lobster, but they said they were sold out. sad

I would definitely come back again to try the other dishes on the menu!

Sea bream!! Smile May 21, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
We went to Entourage for a causal gathering. After reading the reviews on openrice, we decided to order the Seabream encrusted in salt, the 7 hours braised lamb shank, Goat Cheese Salad. For desserts, we ordered the thin apple tart and Cannele Bordelas.

Everyone got one hold piece of the crispy goat cheese. The cheese was very creamy and the salad is fresh.
    Royal Seabream encrusted in salt
    Royal Seabream encrusted in salt

It was a quite interesting experience to have the seabream at Entourage. The presentation of the seabream was very nice as the fish was covered by salt. At first it presented with the salt crust letting us to take photos. The most interesting part is we can smash the salt cover by using a little hammer. After that, the waiter will take it back to the kitchen and remove the bones and crust for us. The seabream was soft and delicious. Must try item!
7 hours Braised Lamb Shank @ 10% off
7 hours Braised Lamb Shank @ 10% off

The waiter recommended us to try the 7 hours braised lamb shank since they were doing 10% off promotion throughout May. The mashed potato taste perfect with the sauce. The lamb was well-cooked with the sauce. I can say the sauce is totally the soul for this dish.

The thin apple tart looks nice and it was a crispy tart. The apple slices were a little bit sour and warm. The vanilla ice-cream was sweet and cool. It was amazing when the crispy, warm and cool mixed in your mouth. Another must try item!

I went to Entourage with my friends for gathering last night.

The Environment was very elegant. We enjoyed the dim lights and the soft music.
We occupied the second round table and found that it was a quite private place. A very nice place for some chatting (girls' talk=P) with old friends.
Waiter recommended a few dishes: sea bream encrusted in salt, crab and lobster risotto and the Rib eye. We didn't take the sea bream since one of my friend doesn't eat fish. ( We were regretted when we saw the sea bream ordered by another table. It looked really cute because the salt crust was in a fish shape.)
We finally ordered the Seared Scallops, Lobster Salad, Crab and Lobster Risotto and Rib Eye.

The Seared Scallops, it was very well presented. The scallops were very soft and It goes well with the crispy potato chip. All of us voted to encore this one (We finally didn't cause we would like save room for the desserts!=)) i

We loved the raspberry dressing in the lobster salad. It was pure and fresh. We were so excited when we saw two big pieces of lobster instead of just little lobster flesh between vegetables.

The crab and lobster risotto reminds us our days in Europe. It tastes like what we had in Europe. It was best among the three that have mentioned. Really a must-try item.

The Rib eye was so soft that it melted in my month. The potato was a little bit spicy because of the pepper. The rib eye shown in the photo is the portion for two.

We were actually quite full after finishing all the starts and mains, but it is hard for girls to say not to the french desserts. We planned to order the pear crumble, the thin apple tart and the chocolate fondant. We finally only ordered pear crumble among those three because we saw macaroons in the dessert shelf!!! We ordered 2 plates of macaroons since $75 for 7 pieces was quite a good deal!

The pear crumble was good but I was attracted by their thin apple tart (our next table ordered it). It looks really tasty!

Nice Environment, Nice Food, Good service+ Friendly staff.
Will probably back with some other friends to try the sea beam and other desserts.

A Pleasantly Good Find.... Smile Apr 22, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
On Friday, made plans very last minute to head out for dinner with a group of 6 friends.Could not find anywhere in Soho that could accomodate us last minute without a reservation, as most of the places were full. Stumbled across this really nice French Restaurant on lower Elgin Street which I must say pleasantly turned out to be a very good find.
We walked in at about 10.15pm to a full restaurant and were greeted by a European gentleman and requested for a table and explained that we did not have a reservation. He sat us at the cocktail lounge and said he will see what he can do for us and 15 mins later, we were shown to our table.
The reason I am writing this review is because of the service we received that evening. This gentleman turned out to be the Executive Chef of the Restaurant and he made special arrangements to keep the kitchen open late to accommodate our group. He personally took our orders and made recommendations of what we should have. We ordered quite a few things to share and they were all very good. To recommend a few that we really enjoyed, The Fresh Salmon Tartar was gorgeous with chunks of Salmon, The Foie Gras were delicious and the portion was very decent. The Seared Scallops on Creamy Leeks was something unique, it was presented in an Oyster Shell and was very tasty.
For the Mains, The Lobster & Crab Risotto is a must try for anyone, very comforting and super delicious. We wanted to order a steak & were recommended to try the Rib Eye on the bone (sharing for 2). It was cooked to perfection just how we asked for it... Medium but no Blood!
Finally we tried the Royal Sea Bream encrusted in Salt which was moist and absolutely wonderful.
For the Desserts, we had the Creme Brulee, Hot Chocolate Fondant & the Cheese Cake with Mix Red Berries. All were super good.
We ended up having a really Good Meal, Great Ambiance & "Excellent Service".
A "Pleasantly Good Find" in my books and I look forward to dining there soon again and this time will remember to take pictures!!
Thank You Entourage for a lovely evening!

I am extremely disappointed with Entourage service. Today is my 1st anniversary and I have reserved a table for 2 at Entourage at least 2 weeks prior, and emphasized it is for a special occasion. I felt a bit odd for not receiving phone call today before my visit, therefore I called them back to confirm the booking. Turn out they only serve Set Wine Menu, no a la carte will be served and no one notified me in advance. huffyhuffyhuffyhuffy I’m glad that I took the initiative to call because I would be have stuck with the wine menu when I can’t even drink a bit of alcohol.

Heard good things about Entourage lunches. Therefore gave it a try. You need to go up a flight of staircase to reach the entrance. Quite secluded.

    Environment:
Dim lights + spotlight + centerpiece
Dim lights + spotlight + centerpiece

Low ceiling, very dim lighting, cheap but thoughtful decorations (although the table at the corner was a bit shabby). If the place were full it would've been a bit noisy.

    Service:
The waiters were polite and attentive. However, the waiter who took our orders was quite imposing - strongly recommended us to order the salt-crusted sea bream even though H had explicitly stated that she wanted to try cod. He disregarded our preferences and went on to reiterate thrice, that the salt crusted bream was a specialty. We succumbed in the end.

    Food:
    The menu:

    chopstickBread basket - baguette

The bread basket was petite and there was only baguette, and more baguette to choose from. The bread was warm. The olive oil was fragrant but I thought the balsamic was a bit too sour. We asked for a refill, only because R was very hungry and realized that we wouldn't be ordering a lot that night.

chopstickFrench beans in pesto and pistachio dressing

I thought this would be an interesting dish but it turned out to rather disappointing. Pesto ought to have been thick and delicious and ought to have coated the beans well. I don't think it was salted properly because the basil flavour didn't quite come through, and the mixture was to grainy and coarse for my liking. But then again pesto with beans seems a little strange (hindsight). The bashed up pistachios offered some crunch, but added little to the dish in terms of taste. The beans were, very slender, and were cold. Not impressive.

chopstickSeared tuna with regular nicoise salad
差 too salty, seared tuna not good
差 too salty, seared tuna not good

Again, I realized I had made a mistake by ordering seared tuna only when it came. The color didn't look right. Tuna should not be seared. At most it should be lightly crusted on the outside with a special crunchy mix and only very, very lightly seared. The bulk of the meat should remain reddish. Well-done tuna is too lean and rough. The salad was too sour. Anchovies were too salty. Overall, not a very pleasant or pleasing salad. Should have cut the acidity with some sweet.

    chopstickCream of cauliflower soup

The waiter assured us that the soup wouldn't be too creamy. His reassurance was well-placed. I only ate a mouthful. Cauliflower doesn't taste like anything particularly distinct does it..? Would've preferred mushroom or pumpkin soup.

chopstickWild mushroom risotto with parmesan chip
    OK wild mushroom risotto
    OK wild mushroom risotto

The risotto itself and the blending of mushroom with the rice grains was up to scratch. I liked the slurpy texture of the risotto (albeit being a bit too thick), and thoroughly enjoyed the thinly-sliced wild mushrooms. belongs to the chanterelle family i believe. However, despite the acceptable texture, the risotto was over-seasoned. Waaay too salty, especially when an extremely salty parmesan chip is set on the side to accompany to the risotto. It was salty to the extent I couldn't quite palate it. Pity. sad I felt quite full already after eating a few spoonfuls.

    chopstickSalt-crusted sea bream
    正cute!
    正cute!

    正 seabream yum!
    正 seabream yum!

Best deal of the day. The mummified sea bream is interesting and see they even bothered to carve out little pockets of salt to imitate the scaly surface. The meat was soft and flavourful. You could really taste the fresh fish flavour because it wasn't seasoned with anything else but salt, on the surface, which works pretty well! There was a olive chutney topping served on the side - finely diced tomato, red onion, olive, parsley, olive oil. The topping was delicious and worked well with the fish, offering a bit of savoury meatiness to complement the mild fish flavour. The only disappointment was that they didn't let us carve out the flesh for ourselves, instead, the fish was deboned when served. I would've preferred working at the carcass myself. But I guess the French won't have it done this quintessentially oriental way. Aite. Should explicitly make the request next time (if there is one).

    chopstickChicken breast with portobello mushroom
    差 unappetizing
    差 unappetizing

Disappointing sad to say the least. An insult to the reputation that entourage has earned - spoiled meat, undercooked, bland flavour, unappetizing appearance. The only enjoyable item on the plate was the large portobello mushroom garnishing the chicken. And I thought the menu read 'stuffed' chicken.

chopstickThin apple tart with vanilla ice cream
    正 :)
    正 :)

Dessert, thankfully, was quite pleasing. 'Thin' apple tart is true to its name. The apples were thinly sliced and the filo pastry was also very, very thin. It was, however, dry and crisp, not soggy at all, kind of like mille-feuille, though less brittle. I liked this dessert a lot. The tart itself was not sweet and the apples were slightly tart but with the huge dollop of vanilla ice cream on top, the sweetness nicely cut the acidity. Quite delightful.

    Conclusion:
There are some strengths, but these strengths were outweighed by its weaknesses. sad Will not recommend this place for dinner. Lunch might be OK. Not sure how long it's going to remain in business though.
    Supplementary Information:
There were only 4 groups of diners on a Sunday evening. Not too optimistic about Entourage staying in business for much longer. Hope it improves though. Have heard positive comments for lunch.

    Appalling service  Jul 07, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
12 of us went to Entourage for a friend's bday and it just went from bad to worse. Drinks took forever, orders had to be repeated over and over and even then they got them wrong, the food was so so (not worth the bad service) and didn't arrive at the same time. Even the manager was clueless. The service started out bad and just got progressively worse. And it was pricey, $690 per person for just starters (to share), mains and some drinks. Won't be going back.

    I shall be back ! Smile Jun 14, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I happened to pass this part of Elgin Street (about 2 months ago) and was already impressed by the design of this building - being turned around from an old block into a neo-modern design. Finally, I had the opportunity to dine here after a bit of an adventure finding the place. Yes, it was not easy to find if you walked from Elgin or Staunton Street, especially under this heat. One should walk from Hollywood Road instead.

The ground floor of the building was a bar. Dining area was on first floor. The restaurant's interior was nicely decorated, smelt cool and fresh; pity it had so few guests. There were only 5 tables of about 10 guests when we arrived at around 1pm. I was particularly impressed by the decor of its toilette, too. BTW, there were tables set at sofas sitting 5-6 people, and a long table for 12 people, catering for various profile and groups of guests.

My friend and I ordered escargots as starters, wild mushroon risotto, mixed grill, and a chocolate pudding in vanilla cream sauce as dessert. All were very nice, in taste and in presentation. Frist came the escargots, each serving had six and came in shells. I particularly liked them marinated in olive oil and herbs, reminded me of the way they served in Paris. The mixed grill came with a lamb chop, a piece of tenderloin and a sauage. The tenderloin, which we ordered well done and which was served with a piece of herbal butter, was juicy and tender. The lamb chop was one of the best I had recently : rightly spiced and very tender and juicy. I did not try the sauage. Don't be fooled by the presentation of the risotto : it might look small portion but very creamy and filling.

As the portions of the mains were quite big, we ordered only one dessert. I am a chocolate lover and like almost anything made with chocolate. There were two choices but we picked this chocolate cake (both tasted and looked like a brownie) with vanilla cream. The other one was almond criossant which we were not interested in. However, in hindsight, we probably had made the wrong decision.

Coffee was very nice too. A fine note to sign off the lunch.

The chef did come out and look around the restraurant but did not have the time to chat with guests. To me, that was enough to show his care for his guests' enjoyment of his food. I mean, not many chef would do this these days unless you were a VIP or paying VIP prices, right ?

At this price, I would definitely bring friends there again and do some serious word-of-mouth promotion for it. Keep up the good work.

    Amazing  Smile Jun 10, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
    Overall
A fairly quiet restaurant next to Sahara on Elgin - but definitely a place that everyone should try. The food is amazing and was very well priced with a 3 course dinner + a glass of pinot grigio coming only to HKD500 per head. The portions are also very generous and if you're a group of girls only, you can even consider sharing food else you'll be left with food on the plate whilst you struggle to finish dessert.

The restaurant was very quiet with few diners when I went but we were assured by the waiters that it was because it was a weekday (i really do hope they don't close anytime soon). The restaurant has a nice ambience and would make the perfect first date restaurant as it's quiet, nice and romantic without being too pretentious. There are several round tables that seats 6 and a long table for 12 making it a good choice of gossip with the girls or hosting a dinner party.

    Starters

Pan fried foie gras - The foir gras was nicely seared to a cripsy caramelised coating whilst the middle was still soft making the dish delicious. For HKD175 the restaurant gives a very generous serving of 2 pieces making this quite the heavy starter. I'll advise choosing a ligher main if you order this.
    Pan fried foie gras

Onion soup - Once again the portion was large but the soup was well made. Not quite the traditional onion soup where the whole of the top is covered in cheese but the floating bread glazed with cheese was good. I think the choice not to glaze the whole soup was delibrate as that would have made the soup too filling.

    Mains

Chef seafood linguine - The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was delicious. The scallops looks amazing but were slighly over cooked and tasted a little rubbery but the sauce redeemed the dish. The photo shows the portion to be deceptively small but it is filling.

Cari chicken - This comes with rice and two sides (salsa sauce and a cold sliced vegetable dish). When the dish comes you'll first notice a strong coconut smell and basically from that point on you know you're in for a treat. The coconut sauce has a watery texture which the boy thought was odd but actually this pairs nicely with the rice. I personally enjoyed the watery sauce as this made the dish less "heavy". The chicken was boneless (as all chicken should be) and tender. As to the portion - 3 pieces of chicken + a full bowl of rice + the two sides. Let's just say no man would leave the restaurant complaining that they're not full yet.

    Dessert

Creme brulee - A little disappointing to be honest. The top was caramelised perfectly but the dish was slightly cold and the pudding was runny - not exactly the texture any creme brulee should be, let alone a creme brulee in a French restaurant.
    Vanilla creme brulee

Dark chocolate mousee - The reputation of their pastry chef was saved by this dark chocolate mousse. Not exactly the prettiest presentation but the mousee was divine. Creamy and soft yet it had a strong chocolate taste. The mousse is actually so soft that they serve this in a chocolate "box" so the mouse retains its shape. Once again the portion was slightly big and half way through eating this I was way too full and doubted whether I could finish it (the dilemma between being really full and eating really good food). This was when I discovered the purpose of the orange sauce on the plate. I'm not a big fan of orange paired with chocolate but this worked well - the tangy orange flavour made the chocolate mousee lighter and gave the dish a new dimension.

My gf looked this place up in openrice and suggested to try it on Sunday, so that we could go coffee assembly afterwards.

We arrived by 12 and walked up the stairs and found a waiter working on the reception, who didn't realize that there were two persons standing in front of him and couldn't hear us. Finally, he heard us and brought us to our table, with no menu and no water. After a while, a server helped our neighbors and left us the menu upon request.

We ordered pumpkin soup as our starters and some fish and chicken as our main courses. 5 minutes later, the server came back and told us that they had just sold out their pumpkin soup. It was something like 12:15.

10 minutes later, the same server brought us our bread, which was not even warm and hard to swallow.

The best dish of the day was a starter of salmon and LOTS of olive oil. The chicken, the fish, I have to apologize, they were average at best.

The worst thing of that lunch was the coffee. Terrible was an understatement.

P.S. One server covering the whole restaurant while the other was standing outside in the reception doing nothing is simply suicidal during a busy Sundy brunch.

At first I was thinking of having dinner at Sahara on Elgin street, but it was full. So I checked the menu of this new French restaurant below Sahara and I decided to try, and I am very happy to have discovered this restaurant.

Although it is a French restaurant, we like very much that it has a very diverse menu which offers tapas, and some dishes from (fromer) French colonies as well. I was so surprised when I saw Cari Chicken and Lamb tagine on the menu, and we took both.Cari Chicken is one of the most famous dish from Reunion Island, it is similar to Indian curry, but the taste is milder and much more subtle. My friend tried that and she said it was very good. I had the lamb tagine with couscous, compared to the one I tried in Sahara and in Kashbah, the lamb tagine here seem lighter, fresh, not too heavy, and it's a more "modern" version of the dish, very suitable for ladies and health-conscious people like me.

Perhaps the restaurant was still rather new, or perhaps it was a quiet day, there were not many other customers when we went there, and the staff tend to be pretty attentive and smiley.

The cocktails we had was very delicious. The waiter recommended the Lavender martini to me, at first I was afraid it would taste really chemical, but finally it was yummy - very delicate and refreshing - and definitely addictive. I think it has become my favourite cocktail now.

One thing to note - the dessert menu is a serious business in this restaurant. I really surprised me to read through the decent size listing of dessert with some solid claissics, tiramisu, apple tart, creme brulee, and many other names which are not too common in Hong Kong - Colonel, Floating Island, Frozen toron, etc. I had a floating island, and it was super delicious. It was some poach meringue served with custard sauce - very light, and very satisfying - just the perfect way to finish the meal! The waiter told me, the dessert chef of this restaurant, in fact, is a real Frenchman coming from Bordeaux - respect! shocked

Value-wise, it was really not bad considered the quality of food and the number of dishes we had. We had a three course menu with cocktails and the bill was less than $900 for both. For the starter, we shared the pan-fried foie gras - it was a big a very fresh piece of foie gras with mango chutney - super delicious, roughly around $16X. Main course was Cari chicken (roughly around $14x) and Lamb Tagine (around 160-170, I forgot), two dessert and two cocktails (forgot how much). Kind of a good deal for the value compared to other French restaurants in Hong Kong and definitely no need to have bad conscience after. I'd definitely come back to try again!

    . Money Well Spent! * . Smile Feb 23, 2011

Last night, Moo surprised me with a new restaurant. Apparently it was so new that there have not been any reviews on Openrice yet! At first, I was a little bit skeptical but it turned out to be one amazing discovery! smile

We read the menu on the wall before walking up to the restaurant. It looked delightful with sections of French, Tuscany and Spanish tapas to select! They even have a small Foie gras section with three dishes listed on the menu.

Filled with excitement, we went upstairs and encountered an extremely clean and chic environment. The bartender was making drinks for a French couple and looked super professional. We sat down for a couple of drinks before dinner... and we were so impressed!

I started off with the Blackberry &* Lavender martini - DIVINE. * It was well-mixed and sophisticated - I was a bit shocked! The vodka in it was infused with lavender but it was not overpowering at all.

Moo had "The Elder" which consisted of cognac, white wine and champagne mixed together - it came in a tall glass and was very refreshing.

We decided to have a second round of drinks and the French bartender Benoit (who turned out to be the Operation Manager of Entourage) suggested two Gin based martinis. I told him I wasn't a Gin fan but he said with confidence "Trust me you won't be able to taste it!".. and he was right! Benoit made a grapefruit gin based martini for Moo* and another Gin martini made with a good blend of herbs, lime juice, soda and Gin for me. These were both DELICIOUS!

Benoit was trained in London and is now my favourite mixologist in town! * You can tell him what you like and he'll tailor-make amazing drinks for you. His cocktails are sophisticated, easy to drink and extremely tasty. I would totally ditch hotel bars for this Hidden gem.

We also tried different Tapas to go with our drinks. Benoit recommended the Spicy chorizo on bread and I picked the Salmon blinis.

    * Salmon Blinis - I was expecting the blinis to be like mini pancakes with a salmon rose, they came a lot bigger in size but the blinis tasted great! Not dry at all and the portion was very generous.

    * Spicy Chorizo on Bread - Together with the red onion jam like spread between the chorizo and the thinly sliced bread, this tasted pretty good. The chorizo itself was delicious!

Our tapas came with a cute little basket of bread though they were not warm enough. The waiter told us the bread was all Homemade! The basket carried Goat cheese bread &* Baguettes .. these went so well with the butter, I had to stop myself from eating too much and ruining my appetite for what was to come.

I must say I really love the beige leather seats that surrounded the Oval bar. We sat on the high tables which were very pleasant too! Was delighted to find the restaurant area as clean and chic as the lounge. It wasn't a huge area but the booths looked very comfortable. A great place for dating or just a friendly gathering. I must add that the bathrooms were very nicely designed and super clean.

To start, Moo &* I shared the Verrine of Foie Gras. I figured the foie gras must be good if they had their own special section on the menu.. and it was!! Extremely smooth and delicious, the verrine came with tasty fig jam and thin slices of bread. The foie gras quality was great and not heavy. I usually prefer to have my foie gras with brioche but this dish was Perfect and made me a very Happy Girl!

We then tried the Green Pea Soup which was absolutely delicious! Would love to try the Onion soup with Emmental cheese next time* smile

The friendly waitress recommended the Lamb and the Veal cheeks for mains. We opted for the Veal Cheeks and we were just so pleased. This dish was as good as the ones in HK's top french restaurants. The veal cheeks were extremely tender and the mash was SO well-made. An extremely refined dish - we savoured every moment. Also loved the veggies in this dish, very fresh and complimented the dish well.

Since our dinner was so successful, we decided to test the skills of the pastry chef who recently arrived from France. We ordered the Apple Tart with icecream. You have to wait 15 minutes for this dish but it was very good! Loved the twisted pastry sticks on top. Took one bite of that and knew the tart was going to be good.

Benoit also recommended the Mille Feuille which was also freshly made and not on the menu.. this was HEAVENLY! The pastry was SO fresh, I was on Cloud 9 * .

Our meal ended with another round of drinks. Benoit made a special Lemon Pie Martini * - we enjoyed watching him making it and torching the brown sugar on top. Almost like what they do with the sugar on a Creme Brulee.

After having this amazing dining experience with Super sophisticated cocktails and refined food, I would happily ditch other French restaurants for this little one for a change! Entourage is much cheaper in comparison but for the high quality food they serve, it is really a great deal! If they can keep up with their consistency, I am sure this new restaurant/lounge/club (downstairs) will be the new HOT SPOT in town in no time!
