Good chicken Smile Feb 07, 2013

First time in Golden Chicken - I didn't know what to expect.
So I choose the Hainan Style Chicken Rice set.
First came the soup which was pumpkin, sweetcorn and pork.
This soup was super tasty, it had the natural pumpkin sweetness and very healthy.
After the soup the Hainan chicken with rice. The chicken is good, its not tough, not too fatty and has chicken flavor.
I aIso liked was the chilly sauce that came with the chicken rice, its addictive. I finished two lots of the chilly sauce.

I give service 4 stars for service as the waiter noticed that I had finished one of the sauces and within a minute he brought over a refill without me asking.
I give 4 starts for taste for the soup, the chicken is good its bordering 4. Lets see if the standard is the same the next time I go.

The restaurant also says no MSG which is a bonus!

金雞去骨海南雞專門店is at the heart of the Sai Kung downtown. The restaurant is small, but never lack of diners and not much to choose from. However, every dish they offer are handle with the care it deserve and am sure you would able to taste it yourself.

    Cuisine: Singapore
    Food rating: 5/10*
    Service: 4/10
    Ambiance: 4/10
    Price: HK$40pax

    * Food Rating: 6/10 is equivalent to 1 Michelin star, 8/10 to two Michelin stars, and 9/10 or above to three Michelin stars

    海南雞飯 (5/10)
The chicken was fairly tender, nicely seasoned and smooth as tofu, yet never lacked the meaty flavour. The portion was massive and the different sauce offer different surprises. The broth infused fully to the rice, which was cooked to perfection – spongy! However, the set was almost perfect if the soup was properly made.
But overall, you got to love the海南雞飯 they offer.

Give me a thumbs up if you like it!

    Marinated pork knuckle:
I wanted to order this on my last visit, but it did not look appetizing when I saw the freshly marinated pork knuckles in the metal pan.
I did not know that the pork knuckle would be conveniently sliced and topped with delicious gravy.
Anyway, the pork was soft and the pork skin was lovely and gelatinous and matched perfectly with the gravy.
The sauce was nice and savoury and not sweet which was good.

    Spicy chicken:
I really loved this chicken as well because the spicy sauce was amazing, the whole dish tastes exactly like szechuan chicken (hau sui gaai)but it is not as spicy as that.
As well as boned chicken I found out you could request for skinned chicken so next time I will request for skinned chicken!

I don't usually write about local Sai Kung food, but since others have written about it I decided to as well.

This place renowned for their boneless chicken Hainanese style.

Anyway, I am not sure if this restaurant is Thai Style or Chinese style because they have an introductory about their chicken and how it is made to suit Hong Kong tastes.
But the items found here such as the chicken and braised pork knuckles are found in Thai Restaurants.

As for the drinks it was Chinese style so if it is Chinese style then it doesnt matter, but if it is meant to be a Thai style restaurant then I would have hoped to see Lime cordial or Iced lime on the menu or even Iced longnan water.

    Chicken:
The chicken was lean and the skin separated from the meat easily.
The chicken that was given was value for money not like some restaurants where they just give you bones or fat.
I really liked the quality of their chicken because it was clean and the meat was white without any veins or blood in it.

    Pork and Salted fish patty:
Each patty had been rolled flat to perfection before it was fried.
It looks like there is only one piece of patty but there was another patty beneath it.
The taste of this patty tasted exactly the same as the 煎鹹魚肉餅 @ 清水灣電影製片廠 (Not to be confused with the old TVB building in CWB).
However the version here was slightly sweeter so I prefer the one @ 清水灣電影製片廠.
The patty was crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the centre. It has been made so that it is thin and can be easily fried.
It is slightly sticky but the quality of the patty was good, there was no grounded bones or pork tendons.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Supplementary Information:
I am not sure if the canteen at 清水灣電影製片廠 is open to the public, but there are always police dining in there, as well as the 煎鹹魚肉餅 another signature dish crispy chicken thigh steak with crunchy vegetable coating on it.
The Chef from this restaurant may be or worked at that place before because one of the Chefs at the Studio was also from Sai Kung!
