Double thumbs up Smile Dec 21, 2012

This is probably my 5th visit to this restaurant this year. Decided to contribute an English review, since I notice the other English reviews are very dated.

Went on a weekday evening at 7pm. Just to be safe, I made a booking for a table several hours prior to arriving. When I arrived, I could see from the booking schedule that the restaurant was close to fully booked already.

    Ordered the following dishes:
    1. Lotus root soup (soup of the day) -- 4 of 5 stars. Tasty soup, and the lotus root was crunchy to bite into.

    2. Suckling plate platter -- 5 of 5 stars. Yum yum yummy. Very crispy skin. So good that describing it will not do the taste justice. You just have to eat this.

    3. Preserved vegetables with 3 layered pork ("mui choy kao yok) - 4 of 5 stars. I like it that the preserved vegetables are not too salty. I would have given it 4.5 stars if not for the fact that the pork was too fatty for my liking. To be fair, the dish is a 3 layered pork (one layer skin, one layer fat, one layer meat) dish.

    4. Red hot bean curd ("hong siew yong tau foo") - 4 of 5 stars. The bean curd is stuffed with a minced meat stuffing. And there's some green vegetable that is placed below the bean curd. Not bad.

    5. Sweet potato and snow fungus soup desert - 3.5 of 5 stars. This one is on the house. Sweet and warm clear soup desert. I like this. But it's standard fare that I could boil on my own.

Some reviewers commented on the lack of choice on the menu, which I was baffled. Even for the 4 person set menu where you choose any 3 dishes, there are between 50 to 60 dishes to choose from. I've tried the house chicken on my previous visits (will give it 3.5 out of 5 stars), but I'd say the Singapore Hainan Chicken is much tastier.

In terms of service, I have no complaints. I was there when the house was not too full. The waitress wasn't grumpy as some other reviewers commented. However, I did notice an hour into my dinner when the restaurant was almost full, the service staff was overwhelmed. The problem is that each waitress is assigned to a section of over 10 tables, so you may not get prompt attention during crowded hours.

Spent around HKD 450 for 3 persons (ordered a 4 person set meal, plus the tea and rice charges)

Recommended Dish(es):  Suckling pig,Preserved vegetables with 3 layered pork,Red hot bean curd

My hushand and I have dinner tonight around 8:30pm

there are nearly full house ( i think it is nearly to mother's day)

However, their service is very poor, especially the waiter, they are rude and black in the face.sadsadsadsad

the quality of food tonight is very poor - i have been there many many time (but it is good in the past, my husband and i always go there to have dinner) sadsadsad

the choice is very little to chose.- most of them is the set dinner, if you do not choose the set, then nothing to choose!! sadsad

    to silent hilll...!

yeah! once upon a time, there was a very decent, economical, value for money restaurant.

Mind you, the food is still decent though the Mui Choi Kow Yuk not longer maintains its standard. Price is reasonable so why am I complaining?....because for the waiting time, the tight quarters (sitting elbow to elbow), the noice...oh my gawd! the entire C-Lai and Loud mouth A--holes have decided to congregate there for regular meetings!!!!

This place is simply a fire harzard and the Fire Department should be notified to begin the process of closing this place down.

Now, please don't hate me for saying so, but you know, if a fire breaks out, and I hope it never does, there won't be many survivors. Good food or not, I'd like to be able to leave a restaurant with my entire body intact and my ear drums with not cracks. tongue.

Next time, balance your money, quality, with safety.

Just have a dinner with my friend in 泉章居this saturday weekend.

    1) The food is OK, but the place is too too
crowded, I have a table for two, but the table is barely large enough to contain our ordered courses,
    2) the food is soso but fast enough
    to be ready

    3) Waiter's service is terrible, may be they are too busy la

Recommendation: Don't ever go there in Saturday / Sunday if you are asking for service and comfortable.

The space for each table is limited. environment is very noisy! But I don't know why young people like to gathering there for dinner! I hate to queue up for so long! That I like to visit there in weekday. 霸王雞+ 蔥油雞are taste good. The 蔥油雞with alot of ginger and green onion on top. But the 梅菜扣肉is terrible, pork is not tender enough and the 梅菜汁is not enough 惹味!

Salty chicken, steam fish (Kwai Fa Yu) were very good. Also try their deep fried beancurd. Yet, the service is a joke. The soup can come after the desert! The Causeway Bay shop can be very noisy at dinner time and don't go there if you want to talk. For Mongkok shop, go to level 3 which is cleaner and more spacious. Anyway, I will say it is really good food at cheap price. FYI, you can book a seat if you can arrive before 6:30. After that, expect to wait for at least 30 mins.

Most their foods are cooked in old traditional way. Very oily..

Not really good place for old friends because too noisy, we can even hear the friend near me.
food is variety but not good at dessert. Seafood is well, but meat not delicious as other say.
service: not active staff but good performance when you ask them.

Foods are cheap! Or should say reasonable in Causeway Bay.
    You must order..
    1. Dung Kong Salty Chicken..Not a Small Bird! You can order Whole, Half or Regular (Lai-Pai}
    2. Sliced Pork with Preserved Vegetable..Must be a lot of Fat!
    3. Deep Fried Pork Intestine..red in colour and crunchy. Dip with Sweet & Sour Sauce.
    4. Steamed Fish (Wan-Yu)..
    5. Stewed Pig Knuckle..but you have to wait at least 30 minutes.
    6. Service..you better forget about it..MaMaTei! Just concentrate on FOODS. Also, You better go there before 18:30. Otherwise you need to wait in a long queue for a table.
    ENJOY!

I must agree with Superman that this restaurant is offering good Hakar food at very reasonable price. However, there is no reservation and you may really have to queue for your table.

Outstanding taste with Super Low price in Causeway Bay area. Salty chicken is a MUST. Preserved vegetable steam fish is also good and low price. Many choices. Soup of the day is like home-made. Bring more friends and you can try more dishes.
