I am recently becoming a little addicted to their Corned Beef and Egg Omelette on Instant Noodles, 鹹牛肉蛋出前一丁。

Ok, u can probably make the same thing at home, but you also could with the similar quality Scrambled eggs on Toast, or Spaghetti noodles with Char Siu in canned chicken broth, or their Club Sandwiches. I mean a lot of Dai Pai Dongs or Cha Chaan Teng are so over-rated in Hong Kong as people are just inconvenienced to make it themselves. I know I could cook better food using 1 hand (Sorry April Fool's is over already lol) but the market does exists for places serving carefully executed homely food!

    .
[IMG:1]ANYWAY, the omelette surprisingly has a really strong edginess taste and Wok Fire flavour, and the Corned beef input just right and not overly salty. VARIATIONS do exist between different outlets of Capital Cafe. Some shops serve it as is to customers, some shops offer u slightly adjustment possibility with the instant noodle seasonings given for you to add-in yourself as some sort of DIY. You can copy this in your house comfortably too, but I don't drive around a Food Truck and a kitchen daily and sometimes just want some comfort food... In this aspect it is doing very well! smile

It was our (my friends and I) first breakfast in HongKong..we went there quite early that day..reach there somewhere before 8am..so the workers there look abit shocked(maybe they don't use to see tourists waking up so early for breakfast I guess)..without knowing what or how the breakfast look like,we just simply ordered whatever was written on the menu..It turned out to be very delicious..the toast was warm and flavourful..sweet and abit salty from the butter..the macaroni and ham was abit weird for us at first cuz we didn't mix both before eating..it was bland eating the macaroni without the ham..but somehow magic happens when you mix up both and eat..we wrongly ordered the egg(fried instead of scrambled) but it was nice as we use it for dipping with the toast..but somehow both the milk tea and coffee were the least i like..i found the flavour of both drinks were just simply too rich and full..too much for early breakfast..worse if you drink without adding sugar in it..somehow after adding sugar into both the drinks,it taste less heavy/full..just managed to finish it..went there again this morning..had the egg changed to scrambled egg instead of fried..it just taste so nice!!the egg is hot and fresh..kinda wet but i just love it..smell and taste awesome!!just love the simplicity of the meal (minus the drinks)..

Hubby and I walked in around 1:00pm on a Saturday...restaurant was almost full at that point, we got the last two seats.

The menu is similar to Australia Dairy Company, so we got the set to compare. Along with another order of the pork chop bun.

The eggs were not nearly as good as Australia Dairy Company, but the pork chop bun is the best we have had in Hong Kong. Different from the Macau Restaurant's pork chop bun, and better tasting.

I would definitely be back for the pork chop bun if I am in the neighborhood.

常餐 Just OK Sep 25, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
After visiting my primary teacher, I walked to Wanchai for 常餐.

It took me over 10 minutes for seat. If it tastes good, 10 minutes is fair.

The iced milk tea is big enough for a 32 degree hot sunny day but the tea base is not strong enough. So, I was quite disappointed for the milk tea. Or, should I try the hot one instead?

The marconi in soup with BBQ pork taste pretty good to me. I enjoy the marconi's smooth texture but not the BBQ pork.

The other dish had thick toast, ham and fried eggs. I presonally add some sugar on the buttered toast and that's the minority of dessert or sweet food I enjoy. The fried eggs is above average.

If time permits, I wish I can come again before going back NY. tongue

Super yummy food! Very local tasting food and decor. It was great showing my daughter this type of cafe to see what HK is about!

Their scramble egg is so fluffy and with great flavour. Iced lemon tea was just the right sweetness and great clear tasting tea.

Special mention to their quick and friendly service. Kids friendly!

The macaroni with cha sui, very bland.
Thick toast with scrambled egg was very average.
Brought friends here based on the views on openrice, they weren't impressed.
Overall its an OK but definitely not a smiley face.

I never ever attempted to visit the store during lunch hours in the weekdays. Well. I actually did try once and ended up waiting for 15 minutes for nothing since we had got quite a number of us waiting. So I ended up visiting the store today. The cha chaan teng was still packed today but not as packed as the weekdays. The decor was quite retro with checked wall and floor tiles and white framed photos of artists hooked on wall.

There were quite a few selections of set on the menu, and I chose the one with barbecue pork spaghetti. The menu stated the company's slogan/ mission, 'Prepare the best eggs and milk teas meticulously with heart.'

    1) The scramble eggs with ham & Toast
Two slices of ham were prepared on the mouth-watery scramble eggs. The eggs were made just right as in not over hard but juicy. The eggs were smooth and had the taste of eggs with it. The scramble eggs were claimed to fry with Hokkaido 3.6 milk, no wonder it was smooth and delicious. Very nice scramble eggs indeed. The toast on the other hand, was rather thick. It was slightly butter, but not enough for butter monster like me, so I requested for more. Nice toast too!

    2) Barbecue Pork Spaghetti
The barbecue pork was hidden under the spaghetti when served. The spaghetti was made al dente. The taste was slightly dull though.

    3) Milk tea
I accidentally dropped some eggs into my cup of milk tea minutes after it was served on our table. My boyfriend and I exchanged this look since it was pretty nasty to drink the tea then. Just at this minute, the staff went over and said, 'Do you mind I made another one for you?' I was so impressed! I could totally feel they really do care about their food quality and customers but not just running a restaurant to make profit. The milk tea was smooth, thick and tasted really nice. Thanks for the meticulously prepared milk tea.
    meticulously prepared. Impressed.

    4) The club sandwich
My boyfriend was not really into typical cha chaan teng light sets, so he ordered the club sandwich. One funny thing was he was expecting club sandwich american style in a hong kong cha chaan teng! Anyway both of us honestly did not expect they were prepared that nicely. The sandwiches were stacked nicely with beautiful colours. It had a taste combination of sweet and sour layers. A sour layer with smooth scramble eggs and minced beef and a layer with fresh tomato, lettuce, cheese, ham and mayo that made up the sweet taste. The bread was toasted nicely, crispy at both side with a deep golden brown colour which holding the ingredients firmly at place.
    Best in Capital Cafe!

Capital Cafe is the role model for the Cha Chaan Teng industry. You could rarely find a local cha chaan teng that prepares its food that meticulously, fulfilling its own mission to the max and serves its customer with real attitude. I do appreciate every work Capital Cafe does. About the food there, the club sandwich was so good that I have to say their club sandwich should be their best selling product instead.

I saw many recommendation of this cafe before and the name of the cafe also attracts me to try it. I went to there with my friend. I like their interior design which shows their character. There is many華星 signers' poster with autography.

I ordered a regular set, which includes fries egg with toast and beef paste. I don't like the egg which is too wet and without any egg taste. One famous thing of the cafe is using Japanese milk to cook with egg, but I don't think there is any special.sad
For beef paste, I think it is too soft. The taste of soup is ok, but nothing special.sad

This cafe is nothing specail comparing with other old HK style cafe. I feel puzzle why they have so many recommendation.

Was totally in the mood for some quality scrambled eggs this morning and this restaurant popped up in my mind.

Both my boyfriend and I ordered the 常餐, whereby one can choose to have macaroni with grilled pork / beef / ham, together with toasts + ham and fried / scrambled eggs.

The scrambled eggs - really smooth; highly recommended!
The toast - thick and scrunchy

This restaurant is fast becoming my go-to place for a quite brunch.

華星fried egg Smile Jun 30, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
the fried egg is really good here, it's abit similar to the scramble eggs from UKtonguetongue. and their toast is thick and with enough butter on so it's also really tasty, i didn't order a milk tea, because this is not the first time i come, coz i know their milk tea is really ordinary, and they have got that Easy Drink near by which sells much better ones. therefore, i ordered a ice lemon tea instead.

after all, i came bk especially for their toastes and fried egg... willl be comming back again...but the only thing is that it's abit expensive for their size and products, after all it's just eggs and bread...

Last time I came during grand opening days, I had reason to believe the eggs here were slightly below 澳牛 standards as it was less fluffier. However - after trying 澳牛 recently again last week and I've tried that like 7-8 times, my conclusion is that nowadays from my latest 2 visits, 華星冰室 > 澳牛 in terms of Scrambled Eggs! The toasts however are too under toasted in 華星, which is opposite to my 1st experience here.

bowl1) One important thing is that at 澳牛, the Eggs sit on top of the toast which makes it look at lot taller and fluffier, especially with the Friction from the toast itself holding up the egg mount's shape properly. smile Whereas the 華星 version has toasts on the side with the eggs resting on the concaved slippery plate, meaning it falls flatter and appears like so too, its all psychological in fact. READ BELOW. Once you start eating the eggs, both versions are fluffy indeed except 澳牛 is still mounted better - except 華星 gets the doneness right more often as its more moist everytime and tasted stronger of eggs as well.

bowl2) The ham is still a bit cold. The toast a bit underdone. This needs fixing.

bowl3) Finally tried the Char Siu Spaghetti for fun. The soup is better than 澳牛 so is the spaghetti. I don't like this kind of dish but its ok edible smile

bowl4) Tried the Truffled Scrambled Eggs, which are served on double plates aka Kaiten Sushi Shop style, so staff can count the number of plates to bill you on how much you've eaten. That literally translates as - Truffled vs Non-Truffled Scrambled Eggs becomes exactly 100% double in price @ $30! The so called black truffle were crumbly pieces rather than the Truffle Duxelle version I had envisioned... They also lack aroma or taste whatsoever. sad Definitely not worth paying for this posher version. SUPRISINGLY, the truffled version had the eggs sitting on top of the toast, unlike the normal Eggs and Ham version. Due to finding traction from the friction of the toast's surface holding it up, it appears taller and a lot more grander, or visually fluffier... Eat at both places to compare for yourself - this places has over-taken the other places already for me.
    Truffle no taste. Eggs excellent.

Truffle with scrambled eggs Just OK Apr 25, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Came here just for the scrambled eggs with truffle.

Their scrambled eggs are perfect, so I thought with the addition of truffle it would intensify the flavours even more, as the egg itself was abit bland, so with truffle it would give it some saltiness.

Anyway, when it arrived I was a bit surprised, there was lots of truffle on top, yet I couldnt smell any of it, even the cheap one at Fairwood had a more pungent smell.

The truffle didnt have much taste, so I wondered if the truffle had not been in an air tight container hence loosing its smell and flavour.

Also tried the toast with kaya and jam.
The jam was a bit sweet.
The kaya was orange instead of green, but it seems the Chinese serve the orange ones.
The flavour wasnt as fragrant as the green one.
Anyway I had mine unbuttered, as I don't like sweet and salty flavours mixed together.

OK.. Just OK Apr 24, 2010

Attracted by Leslie's posters, so I decided to try this place.
Unfortunately, there were some touristic HK posters instead of lovely Lesliesmile

I felt the atmosphere was a bit weird, maybe I don't get used to a 茶餐廳 with black and white decor and also eating under the fluorescent lamp isn't my type.
(Sorry, I'm quite sensitive about lighting in the restaurants/eating places)

As for the food, it tasted OK, to me was avarage but I think it is slightly better than other 茶餐廳s. Especially 通粉 with 叉燒 was fine.

I live in Wanchai and I used to cross the harbour for eggs @ Australian Dairy. However, I found an even better place in Wanchai and I don't have to cross the harbor anymore!

I ordered a breakfast set at around 9am. It was comfy and not as crowded as Aust Dairy. The breakfast set consists of 1. Macaroni with ham; 2. Scrambled egg with toast; 3. milk tea. The scrambled egg was very delicious! and the toast was hot, thick and not too soft. I also enjoy the tea fragrance of the milk tea tremendously.

What compelled me to write this commentary, however, was the excellent service, which distinguishes this 茶餐廳 completely from Aust Dairy. Apart from being efficient, they are very polite and helpful. One of the waiters offered to look for my phone when I thought that I had lost it. Although I later found out that the phone was left in my car, I was very impressed by his attitude and his enthusiasm in carrying out his job.

Capital Cafe rocks! I would recommend this shop to all my friends.
