Okay and tasty Just OK Mar 26, 2013
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Was able to book a table a few minutes before we arrived. Lots of options for Korean BBQ on the menu both a la carte and a set meal. We found out that the set meal portions for side dishes are quite small and seemed more worth it to get a few a la carte dishes for all 4 of us to share.

We decided on ox tongue, kalbi, pork belly and a shared soup which was a good size portion for all of us.
The pork belly was quite fatty and comes with this Himalayan sea salt in a small packet that te restauarnt seems to be promoting.
The ox tongue was tasty and should be cooked well done for max flavour.
The kalbi was nicely marinated but I wish there was more.
Rice was required to be order separately which was disappointing.

The meal also came with the usual salads and strange beef patty thing.

The service was a little spotty, our teas were never filled up proactively and we always had to call someone.

For dessert included was a cold dessert soup tht tasted good but didnt look appetising.

Overall good but don't out of your way to come here.

We went to the I Square location on the 27th FL for dinner. The restaurant is high up enough for you to see most of Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side, and across the harbor to the Hong Kong island side. Do reserve in advance if you have a big group of people, the restaurant was quite full the night we dined there. This location also can provide a view of the Symphony of Lights at 8pm for an added bonus!

Our Korean dinner experience here consisted mainly of Korean BBQ; our meat of choice was mainly beef. They cut up the slices of raw beef, which is a good or bad thing depending on how you like your beef. If you like your beef cut into smaller pieces, tell them while they are cutting it!!! Different employees do it dramatically different...... Stay away from the cold tangy noodles, which is so chewy, it’s like eating gum. shocked.....

All in all, my Korean dinner experience was a pleasant one. Service staff here is quite pleasant, though I wouldn’t really say the service was exceptional.

A lovely Korean restaurant! Smile Jul 29, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the restaurant! It was more of an experience than simply having dinner as we we were sat by the window overlooking the harbour at night...it was special! I'm usually worried about going to 'higher-end' restaurants, that are pitched at tourists and the rich, but those fears were swept away as we were warmly welcomed into the restaurant. We were seen to very quickly, and we were served by the head waitress, who recommended various dishes. A plus point was that she suggested we ordered whilst we ate because oredering for a BBQ can be dangerous, and I tend to order more than I should! Anyway, we ordered the usual meat (Korean galbi?) and a pork called 'Five Flower' pork. The meat was presented to us by an attentive Korean waitress who cut the meat in front of us. Besides the meat, as there were only two of us, we ordered a seafood pancake that resembled an omelette and a vermicelli dish...both very nice! Overall, the experience and the meal was nice. Usually, there is a trade-off, but on this occasion, I was not disappointed! Try it for yourself!

Recommended Dish(es):  The vermicelli side dish and the galbi beef

Been here for lunch twice already. Great appetizer dishes.
chopstick stone pot rice with spicy squid - amazing!! Well cooked rice, plenty of well seasoned veggies, great squid with thick spicy sauces. Mixed with korean jang amazingggg very fragrant yumyum smile
chopstick kimchi tofu soup with rice - this one was OK. Plenty of pork pieces and kimchi pieces that were too soft in kimchi soup tongue I think I will stick to the stone pot rice next time..tongue

Service could be a bit slow here.. so if you are in a hurry I wouldn't come here..

    I'll be back Smile Jul 04, 2011

Zero waiting time because I had reserved a table.

    BEST:

Quality beef (galbi), excellent guest service, great view from window tables. The marinated meatwas nice, but I preferred the non-marinated, original one, which tasted perfect with sea salt as I had in Korea.

MG provided sea salt in seasame oil, and I asked for dry, plain salt.

We ordered 2 large original galbi and 1 large marinated galbi. Plus a plate of beef slices. Wonderful.

It's great to drink OB/Hite again in Hong Kong, too.

    NOT SO GOOD:

The traditional side dishes. Actually the number/variety have not been as common in Korea as before. My only complaint was the spiciness was very significantly toned down, apparently trying to "adjust" to local taste. There was enough salad, which was provided in abundance in Korea. The same happended to the seafood meso soup. What a pity.

    CONCLUSION

All in all, I would definitely come back for the galbi, and I would not try their cooked dishes.

Lunch at Myung Ga Just OK Feb 06, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I had just come back from Korea a couple weeks ago where I had the chance to stuff myself with Kimchi but here I was in HK, craving the banchans and spicy food I had there.... so for lunch today I picked Myung Ga to satisfy this craving....

Banchans were served after ordering, and I have to say I really liked the salad with spicy dressing, the bean sprouts and spinach. The kimchi itself was not bad but not the best I've had so.... Another thing you might want to know is that these are all refillable - for free, which is, I wouldn't say rare, but not all Korean restaurants do free refills of banchans in HK so....

For lunch, Myung Ga does a very affordable lunch set. For myself, I chose:
"soondubu jjigae jeongsik" (i.e. soft tofu stew with pork) ($68)
In korea I had something similar, except with seafood. The tofu there was home-made so Myung Ga's could not match up in that respect. However, the tofu was still ender and took up the spicy stew very well. I just wish there were some sort of vegetables in here too, because the thin slices of pork belly wasn't particularly enjoyable texturally. This stew came with a bowl of rice which was honestly very poor. Whilst in Korea a stew like this was around HKD50, with a bowl of rice whose grains resembled Japanese pearl rice. Here, the rice grains were terrible...no granule was perfectly long or medium...and texturally it felt dry as if undercooked.....

P who joined me for lunch today went with
"bulgogi jeongsik" (i.e. braised beef with gravy set)
I did not try this, but P happily polished everything. The rice had the same issue but we didn't have any other option?

I'm not sure whether the rice at dinner is the same, but if it is, I don't think I'll be back. Rice pairing with these hearty stews and meat dishes is so important that poor rice just spoils the meal for me.... ! Thus, the "2" for taste below represents the meal I had as a whole...and if not for the poor rice it would easily be a "3".

We always need a good "mid-week" dinner and catch up with friends in order to surive the remainning days for the week. This time I have encore this Korean restaurant and was fascinated by their unlimited supply of side dish for the meal. Expecially love their Korean soybean - which is called Kong Jang. It’s a little sweet and sticky, like honey, and we're just addictive to eat!! We have keep encoring those favourite side dish which make us feel full at the begnining!! Hahaha :tonguetongue

Since our fren didn't eat Beef, so we have ordered the chicken and also pork for the BBQ. Other dishes such as seafood pancake, Stone Pot with Grilled Chicken, etc, Overall their food is good and meet our expectations. Besides their service isnt' that bad as previous mentioned. The frequency for refiling the tea is sosoos much that I keep on drinking and drinking. Their staff are attentive and even offer me to put my Coat in their wardrobe. The only comment that I have maybe their freezing cold pomelo tea dessert. Believe under this cold weather they should provided some HOT dessert instead of this one!!!!! Have enjoyed such a great evening with you guys!! smile

    Wei Wei it's me again!!
It was a super brrrr Sunday, but we still need OT~~mad
We needed hot hot food, so we chose Korean cuisine.
Environment was excellent, we were sitting near window where could get a Vitoria Harbour view and see Space Museum where we wanted to go there sleeping.
We ordered 2 kinds of beef to have a BBQ.  We were so excited, and put the meat on the hot pan at once.  Waiting for 30 seconds.....the meat was still red.  We called the waiter, he told us they didn't turn on the central gas supply!!!!  Strewth!  What a big mistake!!!!
Overall the food was good, but no rice provided.  We also ordered 2 bottles of ginseng yau zi tea, (buy one get one fle) but tasted weird.

Sunday lunchtime, and suddenly the restaurant saw 6 adults walking in with 6 children (aged 8 and under) in tow. Fortunately (for us), the restaurant was only 20% busy, so we were able to secure two tables further inside with a great view of Kowloon.

Korean BBQ was the order of the day, and a round of beef, ribs and chicken was quickly delivered. Indeed, the ribs and chicken came in slabs and needed scissors for cutting, but this was all done for us happily by our waitress. The beef, however, seemed inappropriate for the BBQ since it was almost impossible to lay any piece flat on the mesh. Also, since it's a wire mesh, it's not possible to pour any oil on top for easy cooking, so lots of small pieces got stuck to the mesh and became burnt and inedible.

A 2nd round of beef and chicken was called for, but they brought ribs by mistake. When it was corrected , there were no scissors and so we had to ask for them, which quickly was brought to us by a junior waiter, who left us to our own devices. We found ourselves exasperated at trying to cut the chicken properly, until our waitress came to our rescue two minutes later.

The small children got bored and walked around, finding the small pond with the two fish inside - our waitress soon joined them in the merriment while helping keep a watchful eye.

Finally, with the bill paid, we 12 rallied around the table while the junior waiter helped take photos with our three cameras.

All in all, good food, and GOOD SERVICE - maybe it's because it was a slow meal period, but it's looking hopeful for Myung Ga.

Good food and bad service  Sep 23, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
That was all what I included.

Food was good, with reasonable price. Nice view towards the Victoria Harbour.

But the service was a complete disaster.
    - No one poured the tea until u request. One staff poured the nearest cup and went away.
    - No one cut the raw meat for you, they only serve a pair of big scissors that you had to cut the meat yourself. One more thing, it was dangerous to have such a big pair of scissors to customers
    - Waitress could 'black face' you: our table was already very full. One pony-tailed waitress served our fried rice quickly in a grumpy mood. The next minute she was having big smile, nice, polite, great and quick service to a table of foreigners.
    - We ordered coke, we finally had them until we called again the second time, after a long period of time
    - No one cleared our table and we had to switch off the burning stove ourselves (the net was burnt)
    - Have been asking for dessert several times to different staff and no one responded (or remembered). We asked one waitress claimed she was the reception but kept serving food.

We have already commented to the manager immediately. Tho she waived the service charge ... it does not mean that your staff did not provide any service. No improvement at all.

I feel sorry to the chef that the dishes are so nice, the manager is very polite and one male staff is good ... Sorry to say: I dun really want to go again.

The restaurant itself is nice inside, great views from the window side tables.
The wait staff did not notice us after we had been seated at our tabe, we had to wave the manager in order to get a waitress to take our order. First waitress did not understand english which is fair enough though surprising in such an upmarket restaurant. The waitress tried to communicate with me by waving her hand over the menu while i was holding it. I thought it is rude. Gave our order, though i didn't even get a chance to order a drink and the waitress had disappeared.
Food arrived quite quickly. We ordered two kinds of beef for the bbq, and a kimchi pancake. And lettuce to go with the beef.
The beef was tasty. Pancake was ok, I've had better.
The bbq worked well and was clean.
Overall one of the better korean restaurants i've eaten at in terms of food.
During our meal, not once did any waitress attempt to approach us to refill our tea or check on us.
The male manager brought us the check after we waved, he did not say a word to us.
When he returned with the receipt he also did not make any contact. A thankyou in any language is what i usually expect in this level of restaurant.
Whilst i thought the food was good, the service i found disappointing for a restaurant that charges what it does.
Admittedly it is a new restaurant, but given the service i will not be returning. Not enjoyable for the money it cost.
I felt like i was eating in a budget cha cha teng. And then i have to pay 10% service charge, but for what? writing an order down and carryin food to the table.
I will go to Kaya next time for better service.

great view (A) good food (B+) Smile Jun 10, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
the view up on 27/F is phenomenal, if you are lucky enough to get a table next to the window. we saw part of the harbor and causeway bay area, besides all the "low-rises" around tsim sha tsui.

ambience is great too, with spaceous tables and partitions. personal space is much more than peer restaurants.

seafood pancake 海鮮薄餅 ($110) was thicker than normal, loaded with too many squids and not enough other "seafood". taste was average.

stone pot with spicy octopus 石頭窩飯 ($120) was yummy, enough for 3-4 people.

BBQ of boneless short rib beef 燒烤無醃牛肋骨 ($170) was done self-service on a gas pit at the center of the table. the meat was less tender than expected. should have ordered a better cut for a higher price.

there were at least 10 medium-sized dishes of korean appetizers that came with the food -- enough for a small meal! different kinds of veggies, pickled or fresh, spicy or not, all very interesting to the tastebuds.

the weakest link is the service. maybe the full house brought down the staff quality and efficiency? we had to summon service several times for each little thing, such as refill water, bring extra plates, etc.

despite pros and cons, this place is worth repeating, in order to try different dishes on the extensive menu. without being critical on the food, we felt good after dining here.
