nice combination lunch set  Just OK 4 days ago
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I'm always down to try new sushi spots! So this time I picked sushi mori and made a reservation for lunch. They only had two time slots; 12:00-1:00 or 1:00-2:00. We got there a little late but still manage to finish on time before one. The service and the food is quick, so great lunch spot for people in a rush. The lunch menu includes a soup and a salad, then a mochi as dessert. The set ranges from $88-$160 depending on what you order. I ordered the salmon, scallop, salmon roe, sea urchin with sushi rice. I was happy with this combination since it basically had all the sashimi I want to eat. The presentation comes out to be very appetizing. The salmon was cut into thick pieces so you actually get a lot. The fish wasn't the fattiest parts, but it was fresh enough where I wouldn't complain. The sea urchin was also mediocre, not the best ive had, but good enough quality to get by. All the sashimi seems to be fresh but it definitely wasn't something I couldn't get anywhere else. The sushi rice was flavored so it was good with sashimi but again just typical sushi rice that I can get somewhere else.

In conclusion, I don't think it's a bad deal for the food you get with the price for central area. I would consider coming back if I want a quick lunch.

huffy A very unpleasant dining experience to sum it all up. I gave this restaurant a try given the favorable review given to it. However, I must register my greatest disappointment on the entire dining experience. Food is not entirely fresh and this applies to the sashimi and sushi while the yakitori stuff is so overcooked that it's so hard to chew.

The server who appeared to be friendly but lacks flexibility and she will be the first one I would fire if i were the owner. She is the customer fronting person and hence it is only reasonable for her to presentable than appearing as a housewife or 阿婶!She was such a mess to say the least!

We ordered a sashimi and sushi set - they slipped in some sub-par seafood items namely octopus, tuna, etc. which were so unbearable to eat it in the very first place. Apart from seafood, we ordered yakitori - ox tongue and chicken wings. The ox tongues were over cooked and it's as chewy as a plastic item and the table next to us ordered the same item and made the same comment on the ox tongues. The chicken wings were so bad that we just didnt eat it after taking a bite - it smells bad and it tastes worst!

As soon as we finished our meal, we just couldnt wait to get out and therefore quickly asked for our bill. At the moment when the bill is presented, the "ah sim" server brought two chawanmushi over and apologized that they forgot to serve it till we call for the bill - how haphazard and what a disaster!

For us, last night was the first and it will be the last visit. IF you are adventurous enough then try. Otherwise you should immediately skip this place as it's simply not worth it and honestly no love loss if you decide not to go for it!

Good down to the rice Smile Aug 26, 2012

The sashimi and sushi were as fresh as I'm used to getting at the usual places in Causeway Bay. We had an uni + crab rice bowl and a mixed sashimi rice bowl, plus some saba and Hokkaido uni sushi from the blackboard list.

The Hokkaido uni was fantastically rich and creamy, not to mention about half the price you will get charged at those other places. The crab meat in the rice bowl was a bit of a letdown. Otherwise, fresh, delicious, and excellent value for money.

I can attest to all the other reviewers who have been to this restaurant.

For the value, you won't believe the quality of sashimi you get. I have been here several times now and it has never disappointed me once. If you enjoy all sorts of sashimi, the 北海道魚生飯 (Hokkaido sashimi rice) will give you the best deal as there is shrimp, scallop, salmon and uni.

If you are a salmon lover, however, there are choices that will provide you with more salmon and less of the other fish. I personally found the salmon to be the highlight of this place, and uni under $100 that don't have a strange chemical taste!

I will do a formal review when I revisit this restaurant, but try to call in and book for a table in advance. The restaurant almost never has spaces for walk-in!

It has to be one the restaurants with top quality of sashimi at a reasonable price in Hong Kong. I have yet to find a place to replace this little cosy Japanese décor restaurant for years.

    Cuisine: Chinese
    Food rating: 8/10*
    Service: 7/10
    Ambiance: 6/10
    Price: HK$250 pax

    * Food Rating: 6/10 is equivalent to 1 Michelin star, 8/10 to two Michelin stars, and 9/10 or 10/10 to three Michelin stars

    Sashimi Set
The fish are fresh, and iced at the right temperature. The chef’s has decent knife skills, the sashimi were evenly sliced.
The perfect example of simplicity with fresh ingredient is the magic of great good.

I order the salmon sea urchin rice everytime as that's my favourite! They are fresh...the waiter told me the sea urchin is freshly delievered to the shop every morning!
one little opinion...it would be better if the restaurant can offer more seats!

    P.S.no service charges!lol

Finally had a chance to try out their set lunch here. The sashimi lover me of course ordered the popular 北海道魚生飯. There are 4 pieces of salmon sashimi, 3 pieces of raw scallops, some crab meat, and a rather generous portion of uni. All the sashimi were fresh and not too thin, which gave a nice texture in the mouth as you savored the food. The only point to note is that this isn't a place for you to chat with your friends forever, as the place is small that only fits about 20 people at a time, and you pretty much have to get out for the next round of customers (say 12 noon, 1pm etc.)

yummi shasimi Smile Jul 04, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
tongue very good value for the money! It locates in central, most of the restaurants around are quite pricy. I really like shashimi, but the weird thing happens was that under the shasimi they served some rice as well, which was too generous that we didn't expect. So if you order a set of shasimi, it would be smarter not to order rice any more. Last night we didn't know and order a japanese fried rice as well, cannot finish. But they have very good service that come with soup, steamed egg, and at the end very very yummy ice cream mochi!! highly recommend if you are dinning around central. Coz the price is pretty reasonable. It cost two of us only $250.shocked

I went there for dinner with my husband on April 20. Since my husband wasn't feeling well that night, we didn't order any raw food. We had:

Japanese dumplings - very yummy, could chew the little cartilage inside, not oily
ox tongue - quite yummy, but could have more flavours
California roll - very fresh avacado
grilled black cod - very yummy
    vegetable pot - fresh
beef udon - the udon was very tasty and a bit al dente, the waitress very considerately offered to split the food into two bowls for us

the total was $351, it was good value for money. smile
