I tried the almond puree , it was really good. The texture was smooth and is not too sweet, I went back few rounds and I still enjoyed it. Definitely will recomend this dessert place to all my friends.

    BEST 湯圓 :D Smile Jul 06, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
My friend living in the area highly recommended this little dessert place and i finally had a chance to give it a try last Saturday.
The 芝麻湯圓 and 芝麻湯圓 are truly delicious. Even though i am not a big fan of glutinous rice balls, i still love them. The chewiness of the glutinous rice ball and the mouthwatering black sesame/peanuts filings are perfect match. And the 'ginger water" contrasted in taste and texture with the rice balls without clashing. i have to say its the best 湯圓 that i have ever tried.

This dessert place was, without a doubt, the best place for 湯圓.smile

    TRY IT !

lol After eating an awesome burger, we found that Fook Yuen is just near Burger Mix!
I really can't stop eating while I am with Fat mui mui!!!! What a fat couple-V-

We had black sesame soup with nuts rice balls and Almond tea with sesame rice balls.

lol the black sesame soup is very very very very smooth! It's hard to resist this kind of good food. Also, the nuts rice balls are really with nuts. I have never seen any rice ball like these before! It was so impressive.

lol Fat mui mui said the Almond tea is fine but it's even worser than his Uncle's. The sesame rice balls are good too. After a bite, u can see the sesame are flowing out from the inside. Who can make this awesome riceball in HK?! NOONE! It's wonderful!!!!

lol We are full after all, so we walk from North Point to Cwb to take the MTR. Stay healthy! LOL Anyone who hasn't try yet, you really should come. I promise you will have no regret!

my favourite place for 湯圓 Smile Jul 12, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
i come here regularly for its famous 湯圓.

i especially like the 芝麻湯圓 becoz it contained a huge amount of sesame paste tongue i like sesame paste a lot.
tried peanut 湯圓 before but i personally dont like the feeling of biting onto some small, hard pieces of peanuts.

for the first time, i tried 芝麻糊 with 芝麻湯圓. my friend at that time tried 杏仁糊 with 芝麻湯圓. i like his better. the 杏仁糊 has a rich taste of 杏仁 and not not sweet.

so whenever i come, i always order 杏仁糊 with 芝麻湯圓.

amazing sesame rice balls Smile Apr 04, 2009

This little hidden store's well known for its rice balls and yet my first try was dedicated to its walnut soup which didn't leave me much impression, a revisit especially for its speciality with my another meticulous gourmet was surprising, a friendly reminder do only order its sesame rice balls, I did tried the peanut ones and yet still one can't resist the chewiness and tenderness of the rice ball with the melting-on-your-tongue sesame lava. Only if the soup had a bit more ginger added then it'd be a perfect dessert.

So my conclusion, maybe it's good if one get a stock back home and prepare the dessert.

Still the sesame rice balls are unbeatable.

Very Nice! Smile Apr 01, 2009

This shop is so close to home.

The glutinous black sesame dumplings are nearly perfect in every sense.

    1) Dumpling skin is nearly always boiled to the right chewy texture, but not over soft. Made to order. lol
    2) Sesame fillings are very smooth, not too sweet (but personally still too sweet for me), not too much lard fat, and the fried sesame taste is perfectly balanced without being overwhelming.

The ginger based soup its served in is a bit too sweet though.

In the dried version 湯圓糖不甩, you get a package of peanuts and sugars to mix with the dumpkings by yourself, so its not pre-mixed for you - very nice touch!
No sesame in the mix however, which might have pushed it to another level? No comment. smile

    A Sweet Treat Smile Mar 08, 2009

We went to try out the desserts at Fook Yuen last night. There was a light drizzle in the evening sky but it didn't deter people from lining up outside the joint. Inside the place was packed, with hardly any room to so much as stand. There were only three staff, a cashier, a cook and a dishwasher, who were surprisingly efficient.

We were astounded by the wide range of choices in such a small shop; there were cold and hot, Western and Chinese desserts, but we decided to go for the safe bets: 芝麻湯丸, 鴛鴦湯圓, and 合桃露 ($19). I must say the 芝麻湯丸 were incredibly good, the filling piping hot and tasty, and the soup not too sweet with a scent of ginger. The 合桃露 however was only average.

service is really bad  Jan 29, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
huffy I have chosen to eat in their shop at Hung Hom, because I live around there! Summary: They do have a great taste of Seme favour, but their service and cleaningness are so bad.
I tried all the dumplings from them, which has colorful appearing with Sesame; peanut butter....and so forth. They are not bad. But, Specailly when I see all the sweet dumplings are sitting in the looks-dirt metal bucket at the kitchen and some rared chicken ring in the colander without cover on the floor; that I think it is not acceptable. I saw them all because I sit beside the entrance of the kitchen. Somehow my order take 20 mins to wait for 2 bowls...and their shop is only sit 40% full. They only asked me to hold on without any explanation and apologize, when I asked politely to them for double check my order. And I keep seeing they help all the pick-up order first, even they come up later than I do. Oh, well...after I finished, Even I like to give them the second chances for trying to ask for purchasing the non-cooked sweet dumplings seperately...it is the same price as you dine-in, and I think it is not fair! Any way...One time for me over there is enough.
