went here for breakfast one morning last week - and was delighted to learn that they have the CHAA SIU BAO on offer. its not always available so i immediately ordered one to go with my hot laai-cha. the bun was rather big and round, glazed with oil (?); it was not very hot but just lukewarm, and this is something i dislike - who eats bun in room temperature? sad anyways, i teared the bun open and took a bite - the chaa-siu filling was aromatic, the meat was quite tender and juicy, unlike whats usually served in ordinary chaa-chen tangs.

the lai-cha was also good, but you can always get something better at cheung-heung yuen@western district. but oh well it can never beat lok heung yuen for its proximity to my home tongue

cha siu so Just OK Oct 13, 2010

we all know that lok heung yuen serves great scrambled eggs with cha siu. yes. but during that visit i decided to give the good-looking cha siu pastry a try.

it was during lunch time when i went and the restaurant was packed with students; we nonetheless managed to get seats for ourselves, settled and ordered. i ordered one of the pastry with a iced horlick. it came immediately as it was put in a warmer, yet was just lukewarm. nonetheless, as i cut it through with my fork, i could feel the lightness and thinness of the pastry-lovely, and it was not oily at all!
dry and tough, despite being well-seasoned

however, the filling was a bit disappointing because it was not only salty, but also dry and tough. the cha siu was well-seasoned but it would be a little sweeter and more tender-adding some sauce might be just alright. nonetheless, due to the lightness of the pastry, the thing was above average.
