Since my last visit, there are now six branches of Yo Mama in Hong Kong with Wan Chai being their first branch.

I have not had a froyo for a long time because I have been bored of the flavours especially at Yo Mama because they only had original and green tea.

This time they had hazelnut and chocolate froyo which was the reason I why I came.

The toppings were unchanged and the variety was the roughly the same as before with fruit, cereal, sweets etc.

The decor of this froyo joint was the same as my first visit and the sitting area lighting was really dark.

    Froyo:
I chose the green tea mochi and realised there was a jar of meringues as well so I got the meringues.
The hazelnut chocolate froyo was really nice because it was really thick and viscous and the taste of chocolate was not powdery.
The meringes were cute and colourful and not too sweet, whilst the green tea mochi was deliciously soft and chewy.

Firstly, i am so sorry that i've been always posting my own face.
I was just wanting to let everyone see the real size of the food.
Causing all disturbance, i am now really sorry.
    Return to the yogurt.
Their original one goes more and more milky now.
    Stand firm but 比我見到俱地原來不是用skim milk.
    Also they added milk powder.
Not too sweet having enough sour taste but why not go to 0%fat yogurtime?
Chocolate tastes good and make u full.
    But 杰塌塌的質感很奇怪.
New girl today and she gave every customers extremely many yogurt and also toppings.
So i had really much red beans today.
Large and fresh and not artificial at all. Good quality red beans.

today i just have an apple for breakfast..........

because of the two urgent meetings and the two teachers to find within lunch time...........
so i came to yo mama to have a large froyo..........
    when i arrived..........
she told me that the VIP car can only start using at 5:00pm and now it's just 4:30pm......
i just want to ask if she can gave me the discount immediately but..........
that's alright, i went inside and waited for half an hour, doing my homework...........
    5:00pm~!
i rushed out and order a mix flavor with slivered almonds..........
    try new toppings ma..........
    mm...........
the green tea flavor is better today a it is less sweet with more flavor.........
also today the froyo is more ice cold and NEVER melt until i finish the whole cup...........
    however one thing to say..........
next time return to mochi or strawberries...........
because the almonds are tasteless and some of them are too thin that they RUSHED INTO my throat.........

Good stuff, but boring Just OK Jan 08, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Yo Mama was my first stop for my writing of more knowledgeable reviews of the froyo shops in HK here on this website. I have been trained in making frozen desserts, including soft serve ice cream, gelato, sorbet and frozen yogurt so my reviews should give a more appropriate analysis of the proper taste and ingredients contained in the shops' yogurts.

Yo Mama is a really plain store. Two flavors (regular and green tea) when I was there and one staff and one manager type who seemed to be training the staff at the time so they didn't seem to pay much attention to me until I signaled to them. Not a good sign to start my first experience in HK. I asked to try and decided on the original flavor It tasted quite milky, which brought the question the actual amount of fat content, but I was looking for another taste to test the amount of fresh milk (versus powder, which I found in several shops in HK) and real, live yogurt in the yogurt, and thankfully, I found it. This shop uses some real yogurt which was a relief. However, I could tell that the percentage of real yogurt is sparse (not a lot) compared to better shops in the US. The tart flavor was decent, but not satisfying for my palette. To compare with its more global competitors, it is not tart enough, but HK is still adjusting to this product I think.

After experiencing the abundance of flavors at Yogurtland (probably most in HK don't know what I'm talking about, quite sad), Yo Mama is qiute pathetic. Two flavors is so boring and there were so few toppings to choose from. I took blueberries since it was the most expensive topping on the counter. And I will say that the number of blueberries given to me made me feel that at least I got some value. They were nice and fresh too so can't complain there.

Overall, there's nothing to complain about actually, but nothing to rave about either. So pretty much boring review here. Only insight is that I sat in this shop for about 30 minutes with one of my friends and only one customer showed up (it was about 7 pm) so only thing interesting about this shop is that they can stay in business with only a few customers.

Out of all the Fro-yo places in HK, I find myself frequenting YOMAMA the most. This branch and the IFC shop are both easily accessible. They also serve SPLENDA versions! Guilt-free* sweet treats .. what more can a girl ask for! lol

    Current favourite:
Original fro-yo (Splenda version) with Oreo crumbs & chocolate flakes!

Always satisfying except I've been having trouble tasting the chocolate flavour, so wish they used better quality choco for the flakes. Will keep coming back for more though!

    Refreshing & Delicious Smile Jun 18, 2010

If you have a taste for froyo, this is one of the must-go places. I have been here several times and it has become one of my favourite places when I need a froyo fix. The yogurt is firm, refreshing and tasty. The original flavour a good mix between yogurt and milk flavours. Choices of toppings might be less than other froyo shops but the ingredients are fresh and they give you a generous serving. They have all the "standard toppings" such as oreo bits, granola, coco pops, mochi, etc, but I thought they could offer more choices of fruit toppings such as grapes and peach. Also they only have 2 yogurt flavours - original and green tea, and green tea is a bit too sweet for my liking. Service is attentive and efficient. Prices are a standard $28 for a regular tub (forgot the price for a large tub) including 1 topping and $5 for each additional topping.

One more thing I like about this shop is that there are quite a few dine-in seats compared with other froyo places that are mostly takeaway. I'd personally prefer eating in because the froyo would melt in a flash in such hot weather.

Overall, this is a great place for a light healthy dessert and I will definitely visit again and again! lol

Froyo is here to stay.. Smile Mar 28, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
For those coming of age, ice cream can be heavy if a regular feature. But with the summer heat fast approaching, a cold dessert is always welcoming. Good news: the frozen yoghurt revolution is here to stay. Thanks to the increasingly health-conscious in all of us. I'm not saying ice cream is out - it will never be because nothing is a replacement but frozen yoghurt is great as an intermission to break the excessive sugar and fat. And a huge bonus: it actually tastes good!

My new fave is Yo Mama! Their outlets do a brisk business for good reason. And with the smiling cow, why not?

Although there are only 2 flavours (I prefer original over green tea), there are a myriad of fruit and other toppings to choose from. It can be a serious decision, or you end up with a cup so full of toppings you can't see the yoghurt. For the kid in me, coco pops and mochi balls are great, and I leave with a smile on my face...

My standard fare is original with strawberries and condensed milk - YUMMY. Service was friendly and efficient. I wished they did not waste such a large container or used plastic spoons that get discarded, especially since people usually dine in.

That said, the paper napkins were wonderfully thick. So the details were quality. Just wished the servings were bigger.

Another frozen yogurt joint Just OK Jul 24, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
After so much hype since its opening earlier this year, drove by in morning to have a try.

There are only 2 base flavors: original and green tea, both priced at $28 for a regular and $35 for a large, both including 1 topping; extra toppings are charged $5 each.

Topping choices change but there are 2 counters - one with fun and sugary toppings like granola, m&ms and other cereals; the other with fruits and more "natural" selections.

I ordered a green tea frozen yogurt (I have long been sucked into the green tea hype, and I've never tried a green tea frozen yogurt before); with nata de coco (the clear chewy cubes often found in fruit/slush desserts).

The disappointment was that the green tea flavor is very faint, almost nonexistent - but the frozen yogurt itself is just the expected taste - sweet for sure, with a bit of the yogurt-sourness. I cannot compare as I have not tasted the original froyo base from Yo Mama before, but having tried non-flavored frozen yogurt in other places, I think the "green tea" flavor doesn't make much of a difference.

Texture is creamy enough - average; not good nor bad.

About the size: judging visually a regular is about 7oz of frozen yogurt; about 2/3 cup - it's basically what you pay for.

Special note: it's a great hang out spot, providing a dining area is good for small parties and a stack of fashion and entertainment magazines. The bright and neat decor with its whole cutesy cow theme appeals to the its "youthful" target market.

    Yoghurt with a bite....hm Just OK Jul 12, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Came here for desserts on a hot Friday night - it was packed with kids and adults alike. Remembered from OR reviews that the green tea was not their forte, so went for the original. There are many choices of toppings and I went for Oreo bits (I would have gone for mochi bits if there had been enough room for me lol).

Taste was a bit strange - it was definitely yoghurt, but there was a strange after taste, or "bite". I used to make plain yoghurt myself but never had the bite factor, nor have I tasted it with other frozen yoghurts before. Could it have been the milk they used? Not sure. Portion size was a bit small considering the price (swirled to the side and nothing in the centre lol).

They serve with a really big paper cup as well, almost 50% too much. Maybe they can rethink that?

Went past the new 'Pizzeteria' to take a look but decided I did not really want to eat re-heated pizzas whilst standing up too, plus it didn't look that attractive either - I went to the Mozzarella Bar opposite for lunch rather than only Happy Hour for once.

After a not-too-good a meal that particular day, decided to come here hoping for a good dessert to make up. Ordered GREEN TEA YOGHURT with MOCHI (chewy type, pre-cut into slices). It actually wasn't as easy a task as I'd imagined choosing from the numerous ingredients, yet none would have gone well with the 'green tea' scheme as a topping.

There was virtually no Green Tea flavour at all, but there was a strong 'sour' yoghurt taste on this occasion. The Mochi with a powdery coating was good though!

If I had known this Green Tea yoghurt just has GREEN COLOUR ESSENCE but not much (or should I say none of..) Green Tea's taste, I might have chosen other toppings to suit. Don't bother with this Green Version - stick to the normal white Yoghurt type.
