Carnegies is a pub where you see old people everywhere. Alcohol is pretty cheap in here. There are different deals every night after 9pm at Carmegies and on Wednesday, it's Ladies Night with free champagne.

The waitress recommended an apple cider from Irish called Magners. I had one 568ml at HKD$58. It was disgusting with a fishy taste. I gave it up after a few sip and got a Canadian Club on rocks instead.Lamb Burger
The lamb patty was quite dry and lack of the charismatic taste of lamb. The bun was not toasted. The burger overall lacks complexity, they should put more greens, tomato and cheese to spice things up. The sides on the other hand were quite nice. The fat fries was crispy in the outside and soft on the inside. The Greek salad with feta cheese and olive was flavourable.Alcohol is real cheap in here. Food are mainly junk food just to go with the beer or alcohol. The pub was quite empty here tonight even with the rugby game on. Try to come on a Thursday night instead with a deal of HKD$10 Corona, you will see everyone here.

Back to work...for lunch I decided to have western food as I have been eating lots of Chinese food for the past few days due to Chinese New Year.

The lunch menu offers bread, then usually a soup or salad, a mains and a drink for a good price. There is also a three course menu which includes dessert.

I ordered:

Caesar salad - strange sauce, was more creamy that cheesy. Apart from that the leaves were fresh.
Tomato penne pasta with sundried tomatoes - pasta not too soft / hard, but not enough flavours.

As with most places the lunch set menu is not as good as the main menu, its not to say that the lunch menu is bad.
Overall for the price paid and the two courses+drink, its a good place for lunch.

The menu here is catered for Westerners and Asians because for lunch there are a few choices, one is always Chinesey and the others are Western.

I saw the Omelette so that was what I was here for.

Salad:The salad that day was quite Asian too, it was grated sweet ginger sauce which tasted qutie nice with the mesclan leaves.
The ginger sauce was not that hot.

Cheese omelette:This was delicious, the egg smelt really nice, in the middle it was filled with cheese.
It would have been great if they used cheddar cheese because the cheese was not strong enough.
The fries were delicious and there is a choice of normal fries or the shoestring type.

Braised beef and potato:I am not a fan of Chinese food but I liked the potatoes and gravy. The gravy was quite gingery too.

Ordered Fish and Chips.

The fish and chips were served with minted peas, tartar sauce.
The peas were mixed with partial mint leave pieces that looked like peas with herbs in it.
The chips were hand cut but on the menu there were a choice of shoestring fries or the thick cut.
The batter to the fish had herbs in it, and it was not too crunchy but it was slightly too salty.
The fish was frozen fish, but it was tender and moist.

This bar served crazy hour every night from 6pm - 7pm. We reached there at around 6.30pm, already packed with people!!
Can't even find a table and need to stand nearby the bar.

What makes it so appealing? Well have you ever tried to order a glass of house red/white at a bar for just HK$19 (no service charge)?!?!? A pint of beer only charge HK$25 there lol So I ordered $19 red wine as usual.

Suggestion for boozer on Fridays, order as much wine during crazy hour and then wait till 10pm, got Sol beer only at HK$10 a bottle with a slice of lemon lol.

Last year I didnt go to Carnegies, either they didnt have the xmas lunch or it was so conveniently located, I could try it anytime.

I was surprised it all tasted really good, the stuffing was the best, strong with herbs, and there were bits of meat in it. The bacon wrapped sausage was good too, it was salty from the bacon.
The roast vegetables were slightly over roasted but ok, I liked the potatoes as they were cut to smaller pieces, and parsnips were good.
The brussel sprouts could have been softer, they were so hard, my fork couldnt get through it!
As for the turkey, I was surprised it was tender and juicy.

Then for dessert, had minced pie, not baked but microwaved, as the pastry was soft.
To finish it off, had a nice cup of tea.

Apart from the lovely pasta I had, this time I tried fish, golden pan fried fish with herbs on top.

A light lunch for people who do not want to eat much, consisting of balanced vegetables.

You can choose a three course or four course depending on if you want the dessert, the meal includes tea or coffee.

Carnegies have made a great improvement since my last visit, they will display their menu outside early in the morning, so you can walk past and see whats on for lunch.

Also it is much appreciated they update their weekly menu on facebook.

I chose to eat today, because of the mixed mushroom spaghetti in Lemon juice and parsley sauce.
For starters ordered the romaine salad with cajun chicken

Mains:Grilled Chicken Steak with Garlic Sauce, French Fries, Carrots & Snow Peas
and Mixed Mushroom Spaghetti in a Lemon Juice & Parsley Sauce

Dessert: Coconut banana fritters with Rum sauce.

Cajun chicken salad:
pieces of romaine lettuce on a bed of sliced chicken breast covered in spicy cajun sauce.

The bread was cute, served in a dimsum container, the bread was crusty and chewy, and the butter was nice and salty.

Grilled chicken:
juicy chicken with french fries and veg, the chicken was thigh meat. ( I thought is was slighty chinese the way it had been cooked)

Lemon pasta:
pasta cooked just right and the sauce was nice and lemoney, certainly worth choosing today to come. However the parsley could have been chopped finer since the menu said lemon and parsley sauce. It was more like a sprig of parsley.

Banana fritter:
Slightly over fried, not so much coconut, but the rum sauce was good, slightly bitter.
reminded me of the Caribbean.

Overall the menu is well suited for westerners and asians, since one dish will be western, and the other sounds western but cooked in chinese style.

This pub has become one of my new favourites for after-work drinks and also dinner! Atmosphere is quite intimate with both locals and foreigners. Could get a bit rowdy later at night as people would start dancing on the bar .. LOL..

The food was delicious but watch the large portions! They offer standard pub grub as well as tapas and Asian dishes. They also have all day breakfast. The only thing is that their kitchen closes at 10pm.

There is a 365 shooters list. I haven't tried any of them cos it takes quite a while to go through the list anyway. Extensive cocktail list as well.

Ladies night on Wed with free standard drinks for all ladies. $10 vodka mixers on Tues. There are also other daily specials - can't remember.

this bar they offer a crazy hour 6-7 pm everyday, the standard drink cost $19 only!
I drink house white wine, there is same portion and same wine as their happy hour.($35).
if you work in Wanchai area or meet friends for drink during 6-7 pm weedkend, I will recommend you come here, I will try their food next time.
Service is okay and seat is comfortable, I like to sit nearby door can read book or newspaper
