Usually a long queue to dine here - lunch or dinner. The Sichuan tan-tan noodle soup was nice and spicy. The noodles tasted like they were made on the premises! The broth was fairly well-balanced and without the (usual?) pickles. However, it was also without much in the way of chopped peanuts or much meat (as tan-tan mean usually has). A very bold flavour, indeed. Especially so since I have been out of practice in terms of consuming spicy foods. Still very enjoyable.

That is where the ShanDong pancakes came in. They are a great way to diffuse some the of the spiciness. They were flavourfull and not too oily. They come pre-shreded, but still some work to separate most of the pieces. But the taste is worth it. I tend to dip them within the soup for a more complex combination of flavour. (Oil and bread become tiresome to the palette too quickly).

Went to the Crystal Jade at New Town Plaza, Shatin Centre Street for lunch with a friend. Ordered the crispy eel, siu long bao, red oil beef noodle and dried jellly fish.

The siu long bao was alright but was not hot.
The crispy eel was way too salty.
The beef in red oil noodle came out to be luke warm and the beef was bright red in colour and hard.
The dried jelly fish was OK.

I have visited this restaurant regularly but this time, after a lapse of several months, I found the standard of the food going down hill. The portion was getting smaller too. i wonder if they have changed management or chefs.

A disappointing experience.

It is really very crowded at almost all times of the day. We didn't have to wait too long, and it was worth it. I had cold noodles in sesame sauce and they were AMAZING...slightly spicy... and just really good. They have an open kitchen so you can watch guys making noodles, which is pretty cool (y) I think it cost about $50, plus a few dollars of service charge and tea.

I remember seeing the name in the Michelin Guide and I always wanted to try it. I heard that from friends this restaurnat is always busy with line up for lunch and dinner; when we get to the restaurant at 6:30pm there is already around 20-30 people waiting for table!!
But it must be our lucky day everyone is waiting for the table that sit 2-4 and we have 6 people so they actually gave us the biggest table that can seat 10 and dont have share the table either. The waitress adviced us we have to give the table back at 7:45 but never once they have put pressure on us during the dinner. Service is excellent I have no complain at all. The waitress is always there when we try to order (we keep adding on while we were eating as the dishes are quite small), she also make sure there is always tea in our cup & offered to cut the noodle in small peices when I requested it to come first as it was for my baby daughter. I didn't get a chance to take pitures of all the dishes as I was busy feeding my daughter so unfortunately I won't have proper translation for the dishes's name. However their menu does have english and japanese translation which is a bonus for tourists.


Noodle with steamed beef broth
The broth has longan in it so it is quite sweet and the broth is very clear. The noodle is not bad and not much MSG in the broth my daughter love it!!


Deep Fried "SIlver line" Bun
It is my favourite dish when I was a kid but I have alot of bad one from other dim sum restaurant. This one here is for sure authentic I can't complain!


Stir Fried spinach with garlic
it has lots of garlic to enhance the favour and it is prefectly cooked


look and tasted like Roti I am not sure this is authentic Shanghai food but it need some sauce to go with it which we didnt have...


Shanghai style fried thick noodle
The noodle is the thickest I had ever seen but it is one of the best dish on the table! the thick noodle accomandate the heavy favour very well. Very Authentic is a must try dish

Other dishes that I tried without picutre:
Steam Pork Dumplings - prefectly executed dish, the dumpling is juicy with lots of broth in it - We end up ordering more!
stir fried Yellow eel with chives - The sauce is good it has the authentic heavy favour but the eel must been frozen so not much "EEL" taste in it and also missing is the minced garlic in broiled Oil.

We had a couple more dishes but I did not get a chance to try but overall it was a good experience will come back for sure. Unlike some of the new style Shanghai food that went with the lighter favour; Crystal Jade stick with the authentic old style heavy favour - hope next time we dont have to wait for table again!!

P.S: Big thrumb up for the open kitchen concern it show the kitchen is clean and looking at the chef making all the noodles fresh give u a better appetite!!

came here for alight lunch
we was quickly seated in a very tight space/ table
after we looked at the menu we was ready to order
we called someone, who said they'd be with us in a moment
we waited and waited and had to call soemone again

we ordered a wanton lai meen, shredded turnip cake and siu lung boa

the wanton lai meen, was a let down, as they're freshly made on site i thought the noodles would be great, but it tasted blandalthough it did have a good elastic feel to the noodles
wontons was filled with pork and chives
turnip cake was tasty and light however the filling was of small portion and the siu luyng boa's wasn't good

it was purely pork and didn't have any flavour to it

Had dinner after playing badminton with friends.

Siu long bun: all eight pieces broke when we picked them up. very very poor. do they know how to make siu long bun??

津白: the presentation and taste was bad. not soft. not sweet. very bad.

veg and meat noodles: we requested to cut the noodles. but still can't share.

鍋貼: OK

拔絲蘋果: the apple is tastless. seemed to be boiled in the water for long time. it is not served with cold water. not 拔絲 at all.

高力荳沙: OK.

overall, the food was bad. we preserved a table at 7:20 but we wait till 8:00. many people. really don't understand why the food is bad, service is bad, the price is not cheap and the environement is bad. why there is still so many ppl. may be the fact is there is no good restrauant in new town plaza. all tasted bad and expensive.
