Apart from this restaurant I wanted to dine at the one next to it to.

It was hard getting to the middle restaurant because you were shoved the menu before you could even walk to the other restaurant.
Since I wanted to try the mini burgers here I didnt mind.

    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Fries with meat sauce:

The meat sauce tasted like the filling in the shepherds pie, it had carrots, minced beef in tomato sauce sprinkled with spring onions and finely grated cheese.
I felt that forks should have been given because it was extremely difficult trying to eat the chips with skewers and there was still plenty of meat sauce which I couldnt eat with a skewer!
    ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
    Mini turkey burgers:

The patty was grilled on a surface that previously had beef on it so there was strong beef juices on it as well.
The pickles and sauces were really refreshing but the mini burgers did not have those cute cocktail sticks as shown on the previous reviews that Foodcraver and LawrenceLau posted.huffy

Everything we've ordered except the hot dog

This time I've managed to bring with me a few more people.. well my family to enjoy this gourmet adventure under the hot summer sun. mad

Though it was agonizing in the setting of humidity and sauna-like conditions, this did not spoil our delight in ordering more than the usual one hamburger meal set, nope, we ordered three lunch sets in total. Our appetite was like a lion.

First were the drinks, the banana kiwi and banana peach smoothies.

The banana kiwi compared to the peach is less sweet but then I prefer its unique fresh flavour.

Both the smoothies were great with the chips, fish fingers and onion rings.

With such variety, we all were pretty much esthetic when the food came.

    Onion Rings Delicious!
    Onion Rings Delicious!

The starters (fries-fish fingers-onion rings), for us was fab, that's because they were super crisp, hot and barely oily or soggy like the ones you get from crappy fast chain stores.

You can really taste the amount of care put into making these gourmet.
    Hawaiian & Holy Cow

Now for the main focus, it's time to get down and gritty..

Now from last time, I've mentioned how amazing the hawaiian was, and now it's time for the other burger... lol

    HOLY COW

This contains two patties and it's almost double the size of the ordinary burger!

Absolutely awesome in aroma, juices and magnitude, I guess the best part before consuming the burger was when we shouted "HOLY COW" only to be astounded by its presence coming to our table.

Of course that caught a lot of attention, and attention we got not only for the burger.

Now this brings me to the service, service is great as usual, this time with the new waiters and waitresses since it was a weekend.

There were a larger amount of people waiting to be served but it was all smoothly managed so that's good smile

Thanks again Dixon for the humble and considerate service - the four of us were really happy and will be looking to dine here more often.
    Supplementary Information:
Speaking of which I've almost forgot, the chilli hot dog was great but we were too full to comment on how good it was, it was though a bit too much for us since we the two burgers filled us up. Super sufficed.

I would only consider eating the hot dog if you really like hot dogs and look forward to getting your hands messy with sauces poured over the bread and the sausage. For me, I don't really like soggy bread, I prefer simple hot dogs with the normal ranch, ketchup, relish and caramelized onions (a little burnt)... those are good!

went there once after dragon boat practice in april. food was awesome and friendly hospitality was just great.craving a beer and hot dog for lunch today after my workout. (hahaha sounds like a crazy idea to have those after a workout ... well ...)got there at noon, it wasn't too busy. ordered a bottle of peach lindeman, a fruity flavour beer/cider, while i was wondering which hot dog to get from a selection of about 10; dickson/dixon (not sure which one is correct) came by and gave me some suggestions.i ordered a dinkum dog last time and it was hot!!! however i really like the sour cream on top, dickson suggested me to get one with onion and sour cream on top of a cheesy sausage. woah!!! that was the best hot dog i ever had, not exaggerating or maybe i haven't really had many dogs before. lolseriously, highly recommend!!! price is reasonable, $40 for a high quality hot dog, come on, that is in stanley!!!!!! smilego and enjoy a nice hot dog when you swing by and remember to say hi to the owner, dickson!!! smile

We came to Stanley today planning to spend the afternoon on the beach. My friend asked me to find a place for brunch beforehand, and so we went to Cafe Grouchos.

Cafe Grouchos is an outdoor cafe located at Stanley Waterfront Mart, especialises in fast food such as hotdogs and burgers. Right next to Grouchos, there is a rival cafe which serves similar food, so look carefully if you want to pay a visit here (I heard next door wasn't that good). Tables come and go quite quickly within 10 minutes, so its worthwhile for those minutes of wait.

The menu has a surprising range of choice and combination, and we chose below among us four.

    Jack on Mushroom $54 (8/10)
The bun had the same look as the Harlan's, but was not as good. It lacked the nice aroma, sesame taste and the sponginess of Harlan's bun. The bun went soggy very quickly which was very disappointing.
    Jack on Mushroom (8/10)
    Jack on Mushroom (8/10)

The New Zealand Patty on the other hand was amazing which had a very solid beef taste with juicy meat. The combined taste of gherkin, mushrooms and the two Monterey Jack Cheeses made the burger tasted much nicer. Sauces such as Ketchup, Mayo and Grouchos' special sauce were added to give a savoury taste but was rather saucy, which make the burger eating process quite messy with the sauce dripping everywhere.

    Cheese Fries (Large) $40 (9/10)
The Cheese Fries' appearance was not quite appetising but the taste was good. The fries was fat, hot and dry from oil. The Parmesan cheese on top was baked crispy which differed from many restaurants which use melting cheese instead. It actually tasted very nice, it might tasted better than melting cheese!
    Cheesy Fried (9/10)
    Cheesy Fried (9/10)

    Onion Rings - Small $30 (7/10)
A large complete plate of rings with crispy breading. It was hot and full of onion taste and aroma, but I like Pickle Pelican's huge onion rings more.
    Onion Rings (8/10)
    Onion Rings (8/10)

    Kiwi Kiss Smoothies $40 (8/10)
The kiwi smoothies came in an unexpected colour of pale yellow, we checked the menu again and found it was shaken with banana. The smoothies was well blended with banana and kiwi with a stronger kiwi taste. The smoothies was at suitable thickness, sweetness and not very filling which is delicious.
    Kiwi Kiss (8/10)
    Kiwi Kiss (8/10)

    Mini Mac Daddy $40-ish (4/10)
Oh my, this is the cutest burger I have even seen! It is small enough to put it on your palm! I guess it's only 8cm in diameter. The Mini-burger is only a gimmick to me as it is too small even for kids and failed to deliver any vivid taste according to my friends.
    Mini-burger (4/10)
    Mini-burger (4/10)

    TO CONCLUDE...

Given its natural scenery, relaxing ambiance and most importantly the good food, Grouchos is definitely a great choice for lunch or brunch at Stanley. Come over for a visit if you are in Stanley, it won't let you down.

Cafe Grouchos is cheaper choice when dining in Stanley.
The service was nt the fastest, but the selection of craft beers were available and the prices were not bad at all.

A friend and I shared the cheese fries which were delicious! They used parmesan cheese.
We shared the mushroom burger which was made of NZ beef and was delicious!!!

I came here a week after passing by that dreadful Momentitos huffy next door to Cafe Grouchos (please see other review). Fortunately I came in the afternoon on a Friday when there were less people. Came down here with the hubby and our dog. Just off the main drag, parking was a bit challenging. We had to park at Stanley Plaza but it was a pleasant walk down.

What a nice pit-stop. I hadn't intended to have such a great meal, but I did! I agree with others. This is one of the best value for money joints in Hong Kong and best food and views I've ever had. Best beer selection of our road trip down HK island came from here and I have good things to report about their hot food.

First of all, I must mention, that to get here we walked along the pier side just so we could avoid the staff at Momentitos. When we arrived at Cafe Grouchos, a young lady greeted us with a warm smile and hello, and told us to take a seat anywhere we wanted to. I noticed that all the staff here have perfect English and Chinese. Impressive! Very pleasant and courteous. Even better was that a a minute later, they brought out a bowl of water for our lovely Rufus (our pet dog) who lapped it all up in a couple of seconds. smile

We started off with a beer selection bowl . Hubby loved the Delerium Tremens beer at such a cheap price ($49 per bottle). Wait staff were so friendly too and advised that they had some HAPPY HOUR shocked going with Belgium Beers at 3 for the price of 2. WOW! WOW! WOW! I haven't seen my hubby so happy! He eventually went for the Delerium Trameans, Trappistes Roacheford (? not sure about spelling) (hubby loved the unique taste), and I went for Lindemans Raspberry - perfect complement to my meal with its sweet fruit aroma and harmonizing texture.

We started with a small order of Onion Rings (very crispy, mixed well with complimentary tartare sauce and mayonnaise), followed by a Belgian Dog and Doggfather. WOW is all I can say (again!). chopstick Probably the best hot dogs we have ever had. And that is saying a lot coming from a couple who have tried over a hundred different hot dogs in our lives! The sausages and condiments were thick and so tasty. It was a wonderful hot dog, even better than the ones I had when I stopped over in New York! The ingredients were so fresh and flavorful.

    Best hot dogs ever!
    Best hot dogs ever!

    Fantastic, juicy hot dog!
    Fantastic, juicy hot dog!

    Defitely a crowd favorite!
    Defitely a crowd favorite!

The last order we made was a Cafe Latte. The reason why was because there were some paper signs printed out with the words "Real Italian Coffee" which I wanted to see for myself since I am such a massive Coffee connoisseur. Well, I have to admit, I was certainly impressed. It really hit me like I was in Italy! The smell was very aromatic, and the taste really hit the spot. They certainly know how to make their food and drinks!

When we paid the bill, we were also given two cards. One was a 10% discount card for whenever we return (which I am already planning to do on a frequent occurrence) and another was a BUY 10 HOT DOG, GET 1 FREE (we are already 20% of the way there with our two hot dog orders!). What great service and hospitality!

OVERALL: I like their concept - fresh, tasty food in an intimate, outdoor setting. Keep it up! I for one love its size and found it a perfect place to bring a close friend or family member. Definitely go if you want the best value-for-money meal in the area. Everything is made from their tiny kitchen in the back by their hardworking staff. I have no complaints about this place. The service was always friendly and attentive. The food is fantastic, and the prices even better!

HAPPY HOUR +++ 10% DISCOUNT CARD +++ BUY 10, GET 1 FREE +++. shocked smile smile

ANOTHER NICE FEATURE: After we returned home, I checked out their website. Although it's quite simple, what really caught my eye is that Cafe Grouchos is supporting a charity foundation with purchases of their "Holy Cow" hamburgers. Wow! Very uplifting, seeing that they are such a small cafe, but really getting out there and doing things for a good cause. THUMBS UP!!!

After that, got to give this place FIVE STARS! you're not going to find such an intimate, casual, quality food place near the sea like this, with friendly staff and doing things for a GOOD CAUSE! The fact that I want to go back over and over again says something about the experience this place has created for me tongue

    OH. MY. GOD!
I came to Cafe Grouchos on mini-vacay with the parents and initially, we would go here just for smoothies. Once we ordered lunch, however, we were back every day.

The first thing I got here, which was by far my favorite, was the Bananarama Waffles....AH-mazing. The waffle pieces were fat and fresh, made to order. The bananas that came with it were all in PERFECT condition, sweet and fresh. It was served with maple syrup and cream, which wasn't cloyingly sweet and matched perfectly with the waffles and the bananas. Heaven.

They have delicious coffee and a good smoothie selection. Pull up a chair and enjoy your coffee or choose another place because that means my food will come out faster.

The friendly owner will come out and talk with you, the atmosphere is cozy and the food is phenomenal. If I'm ever in the area, I WILL be back.

I've been here a few times and each time I always end up eating too much lol. Don't think there's a better comment on if the food is good than that!

Burgers, Hot Dogs and great fries served up against the seaside back drop. A great way to relax on a day off.

The place also has a great selection of beers and other stuff like smoothies. Something for the adults and the kids in our group.

This place is a permanent fixture on my visits to Stanley.

Just make sure that you don't accidentally get tricked by the place next door and sit at one of their tables. My GF got a table at the restaurant next door once by accident and while the types of food available are similar, it really isn't at the same level.

Delicious Hot Dogs Smile Jan 11, 2010

Went to Grouchos for New Years Day 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed the "Gourmet" Hot Dogs there. The staff told me the hot dog and hamburger buns were made fresh everyday and they sure did taste soft and fresh.

I ordered the Belgian Dog and it came with Sauerkraut, Parmesan Cheese and very very gourmet Dijon Seeded Mustard...the one you get at fancy schmancy restaurants. Best hot dog i had ever! Sausage was a bratwurst and was juicy, fat, and yummy yum yum.

I drank two Hoegaarden Grand Crus which is apparently the top of the line Hoegaarden beer. I've drank the original Hoegaarden many times before, but this one smelled of oranges and the colour was vibrant and orange too. Going to have to buy some here in HK but the staff wouldn't tell me where (but service was terrific anyways). Decided not to drive home and let my friend drive as the beer was 8% and I had two.

My friend ordered a Berry Ice Cream Sundae and the sundae glass it came with was very original. You have to see it for yourself. I thought she was a bit mad to eat ice cream in the cold weather but the sauce was very hot, and the ice cream was of very high quality. Heartwarming for sure! The fruits and muesli inside were a terrific combo when I tried it a spoonful.

I hope I can visit this place again soon but Stanley is always a once-a-quarter type of place to visit.

This is where I found this little burger shop when I went to Stanley one day when I brought my Crocs shoes. it's next to a Crocs shop. Didn't expect their burger was so tasty and juicy. I just tried Fat burger the other day but I feel like this is what I called a burger, love their beef cake. I was planning to go fishing that one but end up I exploded this waterfront place looks like a great shopping area. I've got myself a pair of earrings and Crocs. I'll be back!
