    Disappointed Cries Apr 24, 2013

Inspired by the raving reviews about Burgeroom published on Openrice, we certainly did not want to be missing out on any worthy calories. In the mood for some junk food after our religious gym workouts, we decided to cheat on our diets for some burgers!

    Foie Gras Beef Burger ($140/-)

    Fair

Being the signature product of Burgeroom, we really expected this to be a lot better. Quite frankly, the foie gras was not the smooth-melt-in-your-mouth sort, with a texture that was more like beancurd. Despite the relatively rich and creamy flavour, we were not sure if it complement the flavour of the medium rare beef patty. The homemade sauce was rather disappointing, tasting more like a blend of tomatoes and mayonnaise. The beef patty was cooked to my desired medium rare requirement, and it tastes moist and juicy. There was too much juice from the sliced tomatoes and the underlying bed of salad that it soaked the burger buns - a disaster by our books. The cheddar cheese added some enhanced flavours to the burger, but I would probably pass on the additional foie gras which was $80 more than the classic burger priced at $60.

    Soft Shell Crab Burger ($80/-)

This was an interesting item on the menu and caught our attention on the first instance. Sandwiched between the buns were romaine lettuce, homemade tartar sauce and a surprising deep fried soft shell crab. With expectations held high before the food was being served, it was a major disappointment. Upon the first bite, there was an appalling stench from the crab which put me off pretty bad. The batter was not as crispy as it should have been, tasting slightly too limp for our liking. It was expected that one should be able to crunch through deep fried soft shell crab and eat it whole, but the lack of crispiness made it rather impossible. The major turn-off was the stench, and it was unacceptable by our standards.

    Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings ($40/-)
    Fair
    Fair

Quite sadly, the burgers were compensated by the sides. The crispy batter carried a strong taste of seasoning, which gave the chicken wings a savoury touch. There was a distinct lack of spiciness, so it came across as a good version of deep fried chicken wings.

Potato wedges with added melted cheese sauce ($22 + $18)
    Fair
    Fair

The melted cheese on the potato wedges was too little, so we ordered an extra serving of melted cheddar cheese. It was rich and thick (not quite in a good way though) because it was too dense. The wedges were served up to expectations with no pleasant surprise either.

Was it worth it? Certainly not in our humble opinion.
    Supplementary Information:
Quite honestly, the quality of the food was below our expectations though the service was good and serving of food was relatively quick. The wait for a table was enough to make us cringe, for we waited about 40 minutes for a table. Overall, it was a rather disappointing visit for we planned this dining way in advance.

One day in CWB I was looking for somewhere for lunch...

Everywhere was crowded and suddenly the word "BurgeRoom" came to my mind.

Being one of the first burger specialty shops in town it was popular as ever especially on Saturday.

The Lunch Combo looked like a (relative) bargin (depending on the burger you choose, really).

I didn't have many choices so my pick was the Portobello Mushroom Burger ($68) which was the only veggie burger on offer as far as I could find on the menu, and made it into a Lunch Combo. There is also an omnivore version - Portobello Cheese Burger which has, well, an extra beef patty.

The Ginger and Honey flavoured tea from Dilmah was a warming treat on a cool day. Be warned: add your own honey if you like, it's not in the tea tongue.

The burger combo came with a generous portion of thick-cut fries (chips, whatever), which were hot and crispy. The burger was already pre-cut in half for easy consumption.

The reason why this Portobello Mushroom Burger has remained a favourite since the inception of BurgeRoom is obvious - the thick, juicy and fleshy portobello mushroom would make any meat lover fall in love with it too! And I liked the fact that it didn't contain extra sauces and just let the mushroom take the stage. Oh well, the burger bun was a bit on the dry side and "texturized" but it was all right in this particular case - the juices from the mushroom and veggies would have made the bun mushy had it been softer.

Burgeroom is hidden between Tin Hau and Causeway Bay. It offer a wide range of burgers at a cheap price. Surprisingly, you can make reservation.

    Cuisine: American
    Food rating: 3/10*
    Service: 4/10
    Ambiance: 5/10
    Price: HK$70pax

    * Food Rating: 6/10 is equivalent to 1 Michelin star, 8/10 to two Michelin stars, and 9/10 or above to three Michelin stars

    Classic Burger (3/10)
The beef was cooked to medium as desired, however lacked some seasoning and herby taste, but it’s pretty standard in Hong Kong. The burger wasn’t served at a excess size and the salad was fresh/crisp. More importantly, the bread was slightly grilled too.
    3/10

The restaurant is just 5 minutes away from the heart of Causeway Bay, if you have a tight schedule for a movie after work, Burgeroom might not be a bad idea for a quick bite!

Give me a thumbs up if you like it!

Alright Just OK Oct 21, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I went here on a Sunday to satisfy a burger craving. Many reviews had led me to believe that this might be the Best Burger in Hong Kong (TM). Sadly, though, it was only OK.

chopstickI got the classic burger with cheese. The patty itself is very juicy, to the point that the bun was quite soaked. It wasn't as dense and meaty as I prefer. It was also cooked in a very uniform way, instead of, for example, being cooked real crispy on the outside and pinker on the inside. Not too salty, so that was good. The lettuce and tomato were entirely serviceable. The bun was cheap and tasteless (except insofar as it was soaked in burger juices). The worst part by far was the 'cheese'-- some very powerful tasting processed cheese food. B

There's a "homemade sauce" that they put on the burger-- I asked and they said it was basically mayo and ketchup mixed together. I'm a Texan and I don't suffer mayo on my burger so I asked for no sauce. There was ketchup available at the table, but no mustard. It made me sad.

chopstickWe got some curly fries (or as they call them 'twister' fries) with cheese. The fries were great-- seasoned and crispy, but again, the 'cheese'! C

At the beginning I was kind of digging the burger, but by the end the fake cheese on everything just got to me and I didn't want to eat anymore.

I'd say the burger was most comparable to Gourmet Burger Union. At GBU, they have real cheese, a wider range of toppings to choose from, mustard at the table, and in my opinion a tastier patty. Neither is the Best Burger in Hong Kong-- or at least, I hope there's better stuff!
    Supplementary Information:
They do have a decent (by HK standards) beer selection: Corona, Hoegaarden, Boddington's, and Stella.

My husband had a hankering for a burger and a beer... Good burgers are hard to come by not just in HK but in many parts of the world. We had the cheeseburger with extra chili coleslaw and the bacon pineapple beef burger and they were huge, tasty and the buns were fresh, the meat was cooked perfectly! We also ordered curly cheese fries and onion rings. The onion rings were slightly oily but the fries were crunchy and nice flavor. We'll go back for sure!

    What's not to like?

Staff very friendly and helpful with the menu.

Food wasn't overly fast but it did come hot and looking good.
    Nice portobello mushroom...
    Nice portobello mushroom...

It looked bigger than it actually was which isn't a bad thing as I left feeling pleasantly full but not stuffed.

Portobello mushroom was full of flavour and it was, basically, a really good feed.

Friend had a normal cheeseburger and was also satiated...

Great burger, great taste and pleasant dining experience.

    Go on...try it.

I've been here two times and they did not disappoint my burger craving both times!

I obviously had to try the famous soft shell crab burger. It was good, but not what I was expecting. I was actually more impressed with the simple breaded Chicken burger. I know, i know... who goes to a burger joint to get a CHICKEN burger? Well, I wanted to be a little healthy especially since friend and I got mozzarella sticks (to share) with our burgers. I have to say though... mozzarella sticks weren't too cheesy though- they just weren't hot enough.

Second time I went, I had placed my order just a few minutes before 6:00PM and got the discount. I got a bacon chicken burger and shared the cheesy twister fries (YUM!)

Got here on a Saturday afternoon just before 3:00pm, their tea time menus start at 2:30pm and 20% discount on a la carte menu lol

The place was full and there was a queue to wait for 1 - 2 tables, luckily we didn't have to wait that long and got seated outside (the one and only table placed outside which I was more than happy about - I didn't want to sit inside, as I could imagine my hair and clothes smelling of grease afterwards.mad

I was in the mood for a foie gras burger while my friend ordered the fried soft shelled crab burger!

    It was so good

As for the sides, we only ordered ordinary thick cut fries, but they were golden and crispy on the ouside, nice and soft and HOT on the inside, very good! smile

Foie Gras Burger - the foie gras went very well together with the juicy prime beef patty that was more thatn an inch thick, I was on cloud 9 biting into this juicy ensemble <3 <3 <3

Not sure about the soft shelled crab since I didnt try it but my friend said Delicious! over and over again! shocked

Boxing day burgers! Smile Dec 28, 2011

    Oh Burgeroom... Burgeroom!

The stunning red and black decor and the smell of burgers filling the small, yet cozy and appealing room was the first surprise.
After waiting for only a few minuets, a very friendly lol young waitress lead us into the small compound which was buzzing with many customers.
Even though the seats and tables where very small and the waitresses had to tiptoe to get through the crowd, the whole room was light up with this energetic feeling.

My friend and I ordered two unique and delicate, 'Foie Gras Burgers' and a hot, cheesy and fun 'Melted Twister Fries'.
It was however disappointing how we had to bustle through the crowd to the cashier where we ordered these items.
The friendly waitress served our food after around 30 minuets of waiting and before we could even take pictures of the stunning Foie Gras Burger, we had gobbled it up in a delight.

The bun was soft yet crisp on the outside, the foie gras and the burger patty was cooked delicately and was incredibly juicy. The tomato and the lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the sauce was 'a cherry on top'.
The melted twister fries was hot and served in a good portion and the waitress gave us forks to eat with, which in my opinion, added class to this incredible small restaurant. lol

It is well recommended, however try going at a time when there should be less people. I went at around noon on a public holiday, (Boxing Day) and it was packed! tongue

true burgers Just OK Dec 25, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I have heard of the name of the restaurant for quite some time already and wished to try for long. Finally I got the time to pay a visit to the restaurant to try their burgers.
It was around 5pm. The streets weren't very busy and this small restaurant seemed especially cozy when it's quiet. There were a few tables placed just outside the restaurant and this makes the place feels more like sitting at comfortable cafes outside Hong Kong. Such comfortable setting has definitely lightened up my moods. Coming here feels like taking a break from all the pressure and fast-paced lifestyle that we encounter every moment in Hong Kong.
It's nearly five o'clock already when I arrived there with my friend. There were tea sets available and we each ordered one.
Classic Burger w/ Potato Wedges ($39)
This place is called Burgeroom and of course we have to try their burgers. The size of the burger wasn't small even though it says it is a mini burger on the tea set menu. I just simply can't wait to try the burger with the alluring aroma of it, and it was a delight that it didn't disappoint me. Firstly, the bread bun was very aromatic and I'm loving the warm fluffy texture of it. Next was about the beef patty, it was great. The patty was absolutely savory and juicy. It was so juicy that the juice even went dripping as you eat it. The tomato and romaine lettuce were pretty refreshing. I personally think that there might be a bit too much sauce but that's maybe only because I am not much of a fan of such sauces. Anyway, in overall, the burger was really nice. It was even more enjoyable that the potato wedges were not too oily and also kind of crispy on the outside.

    Mozzarella Sticks ($35)
Both me and my friend want to try more food so we have decided to order something else for the second tea set other than burgers, and so we had the mozzarella sticks. It was absolutely a pleasure to eat, especially if you're a fan of cheeses and not afraid of hearty food. The breaded surface was very crispy. The herbs along with the breadcrumbs made it absolutely savory. It was a terrific sensation as you bite it and find hot melted cheese inside it. I enjoyed pulling a 'string of cheese' as I eat because the cheese was melted at a perfect consistency to pull. I can even say that 'cheese strings' were al dente as well. The flavor of cheese was very outstanding also, and with such a tremendous sensation, it left me craving for more.

All tea sets included a canned drink, but both me and my friend didn't feel like having soft drinks and such, so we both added $5 for coffee. We can pick a coffee from the menu and we had one cappuccino and one mocha. The coffees were served in a paper cup, exactly like those for take-away. Both coffees are very nice, it tasted particularly great when the ambience was so nice.
I won't say the place is perfect but I think it's a really nice and cozy place when it's not crowded. I think I was lucky to have visited the place when it was quiet. I don't know if I would return frequently after this, but the peacefulness that I can feel in this place is a feeling that I definitely want to encounter again, as I've mentioned before, to take a break from all the pressure from our busy lifestyle and find peace in our minds.

I went with my friend after swimming. BurgeRoom's burger is famous for its size, we have ordered 1 set each of us. We thought we could finish them but ended up we can't really finish and the size is real large in size.

For the quality of food, the burger is fleshy and as they cooked it once we ordered, the burger is tasty especially when it's still hot.

We must go there again next time.

This is not my first time there. Walked in with my husband at 7:30p.m. on a Sunday night and Burgeroom was busy. We ordered two burgers and a cheese fried. We waited 45 mins for the first item to come up, cheese fried. 10 mins later, my fish burger came, but no classic burger for my husband. After we finished the fried and fish burger, my husband's order still has not come. We were very angry at that point, so we asked for the refund for the classic burger. Burgeroom need a major wake up call. First, there is no way it takes 55 mins to make a burger and still missed the order. This experience is so bad that we would not ever go back again.

Frozen Beef Patties Fail  Cries Jun 14, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Went to Causeway Bay to search out this place. Relatively easy to find and we were lucky to walk right in on a vacant table. My friend ordered the Bacon Cheese Burger and I ordered the Portabello Mushroom Burger without the homemade sauce. I will comment on the portabello mushroom burger. The cheese was processed and the burger was clearly a frozen patty. I wasn't impressed at all with the flavor of the patty and processed cheese is just gross. I won't be back as there is nothing special about this place in my opinion.

My fiancee and I had heard about this restaurant from a fellow expat who claimed that this was one of the best, if not THE best burger joint in Hong Kong. Located on a quiet side street off of Caroline Hill road, we were amped to get some ground beef into our systems. We didnt call to make a reservation, but didnt have to wait at all for a table either. The dining area is small and cramped, but the place smells so good, and everyone is pretty good about staying in their personal space, that the size of the room didnt matter. The place was imbecably clean and the wait staff was friendly and spoke English very well (a bonus for us, since neither of us are fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin.) We ordered the regular fries to start. They're thick cut fries and are actually cut and fried on location (or at least taste like they are, I didnt get to peek in the kitchen) unlike a lot of other restaurants here in Hong Kong who seem to use frozen fries. He ordered the Chili Burger, which was a burger with chili infused cole slaw on top. Big, juice burgers. Delicious.

I ordered the Mushroom Burger (not to be confused with the Portabella Burger) which came with a "Magic Sauce" that really was pretty magic. I kicked myself though for not seeing the Soft Shell Crab Burger before I ordered, because I would have gone with that to try something really outside of the box. The Mushroom Burger was just as delicious as the Chili Burger; juicy.

I will say, if you're not into super juicy or naturally greasy burgers, you might want to grab some napkins to blot some of the excess off with. I am a fan of burger grease dripping down my hands while I'm eating, so I was pretty happy. We finished the evening with an order of the Mozzerella Sticks which are definitely not one of their strong suits (they tasted like the frozen kind.) Other than that the only thing that I could find to not be spectacularly overjoyed with was that one is not permitted to choose the temperature on their burgers. I tend to prefer my burgers, or red meat in general, no more that Medium Rare, more towards the rare side, so having a well done burger made the taste not quite on par with what I was desiring in my heart of hearts.

While the food is delicious and reasonably priced (we only ended up spending $208 for 2 burgers, fries, moz stix, and 2 cokes), I don't think I can say its the best Burger Joint in the city. There has to be somewhere out there that will let me get my burger MR. But it is definitely worth trying, and I'll be back many more times for sure.

the "authentic premium burger trend" in hong kong has been cooled down for a bit, but it'll never totally fade out since hamburger has always been one of the most popular and favourite food in all parts of the world.
this venue has gained the reputation of being the best burger joint in town from numerous mediae and customer reviews, as one of the burger fans i came with high expectations.

it's hidden in a quiet section of caroline hill road at tai hang side and found out that it's just few stores away from one my favourite local style burger stores, 丹麥餅店.

it's a small store and self served: just grab your seat and order your food at the counter.

i had a chili burger, regular fries and a bottle of snapple peach tea.

fries were thick-cut, nothing spectacular but when deep fried food is served fresh and hot, it can't be bad.

the burger was really, really thick (about 4"-5") that it was impossible to taste all layers with one bite. the beef patty was quite thick too and cooked just right. i was impressed by how juicy it was and i could taste the flavor of the beef itself since it was seasoned mildly, although i preferred a bit stronger taste.
the "chili" was very different than what i've expected. instead of the spicy beans and meat stew, it was basically coleslaw in spicy mayonnaise.
in general the burger was tasty, but there was a problem: the beef and tomato were so moist that the juice kept dripping down while eating (the mayo as well), which made the bun became soggy and my hands dirty. honestly it was a very messy eating experience.

the bill was $105, quite expensive. i've tried other burger venues with similar quality and lower prices.

the food is good, but "the best burger in town" sounds exaggerated to me.
although i might not come again unless my wallet becomes as thick as the burger here, it stills worths a smiley.
