I few months ago, I headed to Tai Hang to get myself some coffee. I saw the legendary egg waffle Ah Bak. I heard that the egg waffles he made was good, so I decided to buy some from him even though I was full.

I asked ah bak how much I needed to buy at least and he told me, "都係一底囉,都係十蚊,咁耐都冇加過價." The waffle was heavier than those I ve got in somewhere else. It's darker in color. As decribed by previous reviewers, it's like many tiny cupcakes linking together. I asked the passers-by whether they would like to have some. They all declined my invitation so I took it all by myself. The waffle was still cripsy when I arrived in Central.

I like its simple yet good egg flavor and it's a real shame that we may not see this Ah Bak in Tai Hang anymore.

Side note: Regarding the below review. May I clarify? People with low income can receive the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) too. If Ah bak did fail to report his income, the Social Welfare Department can adjust his CSSA allowance. Whether Ah bak receives CSSA or not does not change my view that - it is ridiculous to prosecute Ah bak three times in a week when his cart was not of an unhygienic condition and did not block the road at all. It's hilarious that ah bak was charged with illegal selling given that he hadnt started selling yet. Should I be charged with selling a baby if I carry a baby stroller to the street?

I live in Tai Hang. One time I conveniently bought one piece of 雞蛋仔. It cost $10/piece...not cheap. The old man selling it seemed very nice and personable. Anyway I put a piece of 雞蛋仔 in my mouth...and thought to myself...maybe this one is not cooked through. So I had another bite...this time I wanted to spit it back out. The problem is in the filling. It is flavorless and it's as if i had bit into styrofoam. I am a frugal person who hates to waste food. But I had to make myself throw it away.

Later that night, my mom came home from work holding a pack of 雞蛋仔. She handed it to me saying "try it...this has to be the worst tasting 雞蛋仔 I have ever tasted!" I started laughing. I thought 雞蛋仔 is the kind of food that is very forgiving until I tried that. I didn't know one can screw up 雞蛋仔 that badly!"
