After dinner, was still hungry, so came here for dessert, this restaurant had nice high ceilings and the tables were nicely spaced out. There was a clear pathway with carriage tables on both sides.

Anyway ordered White wine jelly with fruit, and Earl grey pudding with fruit and Sabayon sauce.

White wine jelly with diced fruit:
It was presented effectively in a clear glass cup, the Jelly looked nice with the colourful pieces of fruit.
This needs to be tried first, because the taste is very light and gentle. There was a slight taste of white wine, and the fruits went well with it.

Earl grey pudding with fruit and Sabayon sauce:
Personally I didn’t like the fruits with Sabayon sauce, the sauce was good, light and foamy, it tasted like frothed up milk. If they had used other fruits it would have matched better, the watermelon, cantaloupe and papaya didn’t go well with the creamy sauce. If strawberries, banana’s, berries were used it would taste better, as the creaminess goes well with the tartness of the fruits.
As for the earl grey pudding, it was excellent, the texture was not like pudding, but mousse like, and the earl grey taste was strong too.

There was another one I should have tried too, the hazelnut crème brulee, but will have to try it next time.
Strangely enough the restaurant is called Cherry Garden in English, but in chinese it is “Little white house”.

In my dictionary, there's only three grades; excellent, decent and suck. This place would sit comfortably at the bottom of the "suck" section.
We ran out of options on that night and unfortunately, we picked this place... that's when the nightmare began. "WE" consist of myself and my g/f and we ordered escago, steak, chicken winds and pasta. 1) Escago - didn't expect much from them, but it was worst than what I had in mind. "Frozen escago in milk sauce with freshly chopped, uncooked tomato" how does that sound?? Nice hey~~ 2) Steak - I ordered rare, turn out that the steak was too think to tell if it's rare or well done, plus it was marinated with tenderizer, what I called "cotton meat" yum!!! 3) Chicken Wings - best thing there is, nothing to pick on~ 4) Pasta - got told "our chef does it harder than normal" I was like huh??? But I gave them the benifit of doubt and said okay. Even though I have had authentic Italian pasta before and they don't do it "harder than normal". "Harder than normal pasta in lightly salted, very diluted cream sauce" woot woot~~
I actually wanted to have a word with the chef and make a few suggestions, but my g/f told me it's not Hong Kong's culture to speak to the chef. So we finish off by drinking from our little plastic cup and left the place fully unsatisfied *sigh*

"Money is never the issue, quality is what I look for"

Based on its decor and dishes being offered, I consider this place a neighborhood restaurant. When I arrived, it was almost full house and the first thing that triggered my sense of smell was the strong garlic taste all around. I said it was a neighborhood favorite because the staff address many of the customers by their first names. The atmosphere and decor is clean but their seats / benches are made entirely of wood, including the seating platform. Not the most comfortable seats you would expect. According to many, this place is well known for its pizza, pasta as well as pork ribs.

(1) Caesar Salad
The dish looked very simple with a few large lettuce leaves and large garlic bread over the top. Beacon bits were sprinkled all over with rich salad dressing. However, the dressing seemed to be all over the top few lettuce leaves only with very little left for the bottom few. In other words, dressing was not applied evenly. Aside from the dressing issue, I liked the fact that it used big un-chopped leaves instead of chopped lettuce because this is one of the ways to keep them fairly crisp. (the other way is to place them on / around ice before serving.)

(2) NZ Green Mussels in White Wine Garlic Sauce
The mussels were fresh but the sauce was the very disappointment part of this starter. Very disappointing indeed. It was utterly salty with very rich garlic taste. I might have exceeded my daily sodium quota with just a spoonful of the sauce. Although the mussels were fresh, they were slightly over cooked in my opinion. They became rather difficult to chew. Disappointing dish indeed.

(3) Carbonara with Angel hair
Pasta is supposedly another famous serving at this place it did not disappoint. The Angel hair was al dente and the sauce was not overly creamy while rich in flavor. There were plenty of diced mushroom and bacon bits as well. Not the traditional type that uses raw eggs but it was well prepared in my opinion. I really enjoyed it. There are many mix and match options to make your own pasta and I think I will come again to try the different combination when I am in the neighborhood.

(4) Hawaiian Pizza
I like my pizza thin, meaning thin crust. Here they prepared it semi-thin? Well, it was not terrible thick or "bread-y" / "dough-y"; it was actually very puffy. A very interesting texture indeed. The staff politely advised us to eat the pizza as soon as possible in order to get the best out of it. We followed the suggestion but I wonder why. Would it be soaky or overly chewy very soon after due to the puffy nature of the dough? Maybe next time I will try to leave it cold and see for myself. Anyhow, back to the pizza. In addition to the dough, the pineapples were sweet (canned of course) but the ham was again a bit too salty in my opinion. The cheese was not cheesy enough to create the web of cheese string when taking out the slices. Overall a fair homemade pizza worth trying if you like semi-thick pizza crust.

(5) Pan-Fried Rib Eye w/ Mustard Seed Sauce
When the steak was served, I was surprised because it was all covered with the sauce. The steak was pan-fried and not grilled so one has to use a different judging criteria in order to be fair. We ordered medium rare and to our surprised it was indeed medium rare. The steak was of high quality, quite tender and soft. Humm ... but rib eye should be chewy right? I wonder if baking soda was used to soften the texture of the steak. I wonder indeed. I did not realized it was a mustard sauce at first because my tongue did not taste such flavor at all. The sauce was cream based and there were plenty of it; but I am not too used to having so much sauce over a piece of steak. I like my steak the simple way.

(6) BBQ Back Back Ribs
It was a full rack of baby back ribs with fries on the side. The sauce was very good exactly, very tasty that I just licked them off for a few ribs. The meat was tender and very strong pork taste which likely means fresh pork ribs being used. Thumbs up on the back ribs but thumbs down on the fries. One more thing, I wish the back ribs have more meat than bones. There were only a few bites of tender pork on each rib.

(7) White Wine & Vinegar Jelly w/ Mix Fruits
The presentation was interesting and so was the taste. It was sour due to the vinegar but thankfully the fruits helped counter-balance the sourness. I tasted a bit of white wine flavor in the jelly but mostly of vinegar (likely apple cider vinegar in my opinion).

* Interesting puffy pizza crust (it is interesting but I still prefer my thin and crispy pizza crust!)

Dislikes:

* Super salty white wine garlic sauce (mussels dish)
* Overly sour jelly

I live in Tai Hang for some years, yesterday my spouse and I went for a restaurant venture again. My spouse would like to have a meaty western style dinner, so we headed for this Little White House. The indoor is neat and tidy, service is warm and attentive, though the seating is a bit like university canteen. I ordered a smoke duck breast with green salad and he ordered a Sicilian pork chop. My order was tender and juicy but not tasty. His pork chop was poach white, tasteless with a very slight tint of grilled fragrance. He had to order catch-up to enlighten the taste of the meat.
I later met with my neighbors and he told me that their family had tried out in this restaurant and they filed in complaints because their orders from the Grilled were not edible, too hard to chew.
This will be our first and last experience with Cheery Garden.

Our family moved to Toronto,Canada for almost 15 years, this is the first time we come back this "OLD PLACE"(Hong Kong) after this many years. Therefore, we know that what is the real taste of :
"Baby Back Rib" , "Potato Skin", "Onion Soup", "Caser Salad" and "Lamb Rack"
My friend in HONG KONG highly recommend this restaurant for our first dinner......
1. Onion Soup - Never try this one before! It taste like water + salt
2. Potato Skin - Only half cook... , Middle of the Potato still raw....
3. Caser Salad - It look like "Peking Duck"生菜包 + wrong dressing
4. Baby Back Rib - Not tender, only cooked 80% (Remember this is part of PIG) should be cooked well done
5. Lamb Rack - We order "Medium" cooked, should be "Light Pink" inside.....However, we've got "RED" (raw), bloody juice still come out when we cut out the meat......
ANYWAY.....I will tell all my friend don't waste their money

I came here because after "Ah So"'s recommendations on TV. The food is just average.

Baby Back Ribs - Very "Bony", not much meat to eat. The sauce is nothing special.
Tomato & Double Cheese Pizza - Flavour is OK but it's cold
Carbonara Angel Hair - Pasta is al dente, sauce is nice
Hazelnut Creme Brulee - Not too sweet. Very smooth.

Overall, I think this restaurant is worth to come for a try. But do not expect too much to avoid disappointment. However, I will come again as the pasta and dessert are nice.

don't know why there are so many BAD reviews about this restaurant. we went to try it out anyway tonight. maybe those who think it's SO BAD are those who have very local chinese taste and don't know how to appreciate authentic western food.

we had:
1) linguine carbonara - quite good, pasta texture was good. sauce could be even creamier!
2) bucatini pescatore - GOOD!! it's very hard to make such a "dry" pasta (not drowned in sauce) with so much flavour!
3) baby back ribs - up to standard, though not outstanding. the fries were good though!!
4) hazelnut creme brulee - good, the hazelnut flavour stands out, though the caramel topping was a little too thick.
5) earl grey pudding - nice flavour and texture!

I went to Cherry Garden last week with a friend. We ordered pasta and baby pork ribs. When the pasta came, we were surprised by its bad presentation, the pasta, mushrooms and peppers were just like picked up from the ground. Pasta was too stiff, not al-dente, I am sure. I am an experienced diner, I know what al-dente means, but this time, I knew the pasta was really not well-cooked. Regarding the taste, what I can say is: no taste, or not a good taste. The pork ribs came 30 minutes after the pasta, what I can say is, the pork itself was tasteless as it was not from the quality batch, the BBQ sauce was poured over the ribs. I could only taste the sourness of sauce not the mix of the both. It is the worst ribs I have had so far. Initially we planned to have the desserts there, but when we saw the desserts the people around us ordered, we preferred to save up our money. It is a really bad dining experience. Definitely we will not come back again.

the pasta here is not special at all
just adding different kind of meat to the pasta
and it does not taste goog
and the sauce is just ok
but the price is approaching that in pizza hut

I went to Cheery Garden last Sunday for lunch. Food there was so disappointing.
I ordered Pork Ribs, Shrimp and Mushroom Pasta and prepared to have desserts after the main courses. Pasta came with disgusting presentation, shrimp looked so dead and not fresh, shredded mushrooms and peppers were all yellow, pasta was not al-dente, but not well-cooked. Pork ribs which supposed to be the signature dish there was not good at all, we could only taste the BBQ sauce but not the freshness of the ribs. Obviously the restaurant is using the inferior quality stuff for their dishes. And the chef.....I think my helper at home can cook much better than he does. After seeing the main courses, I did not even have mood to order the desserts....Definitely we will not go back again.
