Cheap and delicious Smile Jun 09, 2012

This restaurant seems to receive mixed reviews. Anyway, my experience has been excellent.Yes the waitresses were filipinos. Yes the service was limited and you needed to write down your order yourself. Yes it felt a little cramped sitting with another 2 groups of people on a big family-style table. But I could care less for those, cos the food was amazing. =]Side dishes - Kimchi and preserved radish:The kimchi is one of the better kimchi I have tasted. It has an additional sweetness to it which is very pleasant. I never liked preserved radish so no comment.Seafood rice cake ($50):I agree with other reviewers: it's a bit oily. But it's better than many Korean rice cakes I have tried. The flavors of squid and green onion are strong and aromatic and complement each other nicely. The rice cake itself has a nice texture.Hot stone bowl bibimbap ($70):Fresh ingredients and nicely executed. There was a little too much spicy sauce. I recommend ordering the sauce on the side.Stir-fried spicy pork rice ($70):My favorite. Aromatic and intense flavors in the pork. The rice also tastes so good lol (no idea why).I will definitely come back, though the mixed reviews seem to point to inconsistency problems.

Not real Korean food Cries Sep 22, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
If you want real Korean food, this place is not what you are looking for. This is more or less Fast food made in korean style but failed. Fried rice cake was too chewy and no taste at all. They only have two side dishes, kimchi and radish. This is not acceptable. Also credit card is not accepted. Attendants and chefs are not Korean nor Chinese!!!!! Nonsense!!!! In conclusion this restaurant is overrated, it is actually completely rubbish! Please give bad rating if you agree so innocent people would not come here.

This was my second time here. I find this restaurant quite cute in it's interior design and its little menu where you write the numbers for which dishes you want on your own order form (see below for photo). However, I thought that the range of choices wasn't that much and it was slightly pricey. However, if you compare this place to other Korean restaurants, say in Causeway Bay, then it's relatively cheap.

Between 3 people, we ordered 4 dishes.

The menu & order form - the good thing is it's clear what the food you're getting should look like

Overall, I'd say it wasn't the best Korean food I've had, but it wasn't the worst. There are few dishes that are better than others and more worth the money. I'd say I liked the Kimbap the most. However, since we were quite hungry, it was very enjoyable, since we didn't have to wait for seats (Mid-Autumn Festival that day) and the service was quite fast.

Korean Lunch Just OK Jul 15, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
My dad brought me here for Korean lunch. Both the restaurant owner and the dining room are nice, simple, clean, and "nothing unnecessary".

Pickle: The pickles are radish and bak-choy. Both taste good. I like the hot and spicy bak-choy kimchi.

Korean Seafood Pancake (HK$50): This is a crispy pancake. It smelt great. However, if it has more seafood, says another 50% more, which would be excellent.

Korean beef hot pot with rice (HK$70): It took over 20 minutes to arrive the table. The soup taste really good. It has bak-choy, sticky rice cake, mushroom, leek, and beef. I like the combination of this hot pot. However, if the beef slides can be in good shape, such as slices, that would be another excellent!

We also order a pop (Coke) at HK$10. So, the final bill was HK$130.

Although this dining room is not well-decorated and their food has room to improve, I think this is not a bad restaurant because
1.It is charging much less than most of the famous Korean restaurant in this town (except those BBQ chain!)
    2. Since their food was not so fancy, it looks like eating in a Korean family, instead of visiting a restaurant.

After going the wrong direction and mixing up Kimberley Road and Street, finally found it in a dark alleyway, the sort of setting for a triad movie! Well there were police checking out that street so I suppose you could consider yourself safe! When I left, I found it was actually next to Granville Road. DuH! I didn’t need to go round in a big circle to find it!
It is also located opposite a few Korean groceries, so finally found them as well.

Anyway, when I got there, the waiters and waitresses were clearing tables up, and seemed to ignore my request for a table until they finished their duties.
I was finally allocated a table, and given a menu and order ticket with pen, where you jot down what you want, as it is jotted by yourself, you can only blame yourself for writing the wrong number if you ordered the wrong thing!

I ordered dish number 1, Fried sauce noodles with minced pork (Jah jeung mean).
Basically it was Korean noodles covered with dark sauce, composed of diced onions and carrots, the carrots had the taste and texture like the ones you find in Japanese curry.

It was a bit different to what I thought it was, its Chinese name was “Jah jeung mean” so I thought it would taste very strong and have either fermented beans or black beans in it.
However it was just plain dark gravy, the onions and carrots were dark brown, but not that strong in any taste at all, so I am guessing it must have been dark soy sauce that has no taste.
Overall the dish was palatable, but not what I was expecting.

The starters were pickled radish and kimchi, not really my cup of tea, but the radish was Ok, and there was no 10% service charge which was ok.

nice food nice people Smile Jun 13, 2009

I really love Korean food. I used to have korean food when I were in Vancouer, where there are loads of nice and cheap korean family resto. It's very sad that Hong Kong does not have lots of authentic korean restaurant sad Most are crappy all you can eat . Even if you find one that's authentic ,price is unresonably high! 漢城美食 is one of the very rare family restaurant where food is nice yet cheap tonguetongue

I tried stir fry pork with kimchi with rice, fry "lin go" and spicy seafood noodles.

Pork dish is susprisingly good. sause is very good. it's different from other low end korean resto in which they just mix kimchi and pork. I belive they have put special sause in it.

Lin go is chewy and I can taste the flavor of rice. But it's too hot for me sad I can't belive it's sweet but hot. I thought when something's sweet, it can't be hot?!

Seafood noodles are great too. I wonder if it's home made?! it's very chewy and not very soft. soup is spicy and it stimulates my appetie

Overall it's nice. The only thing I don't really like is that dishes have MSG. I had lots of water after the meal

small shop but with nice food Smile Jan 18, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
went here to have dinner on a friday night. we had to wait outside for awhile but only around 5 minutes. the shop is small but i like how they serve you warm water. the lady serving us was very frdly. she's korean and only speak very little cantonese. however we can still communicate.

we ordered the 1.fried glass noodles, 2.pork kimchi fried rice and 3.the green bean cake.

    1. Actually i was a little disappointed in this dish cuz it didn't have much taste. But at least it was full of vegetables which i like. ($50)

    2. I quite like this cuz of the rice. it's so round and soft. it could be more spicy. i had to ask for chilli sauce. ($50)

    3. this is probably the best out of the 3 dishes. i like the stuffing inside. It's not very oily and not dry. ($50)

Just one thing.. i think the prices are a bit expensive. if the green bean cake can be a bit cheaper, cuz it's the same prices as main dishes. i think it'll attract more customers.
