A valuable lunch buffet Just OK Aug 24, 2012
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
A few weeks ago, my family went to Shangri-la to have dinner buffet. I remembered that wasn't a nice experience. There was no oysters provided, with some Kowloon Diary (or nestle) ice Creamhuffy. I was really disappointed with Shangri-la. Suddenly, my mum's friend telephoned her and she wanted to meet us and have a buffet together. We found this restaurant a few days ago and we decided to go Promenade to have a buffet lunch. one of the reason was openrice offers 155 off coupon, also, the rating of the restaurant are mostly positive. therefore, we decided to have a try at Promenade

Ok, Let's introduce some food I have got! lol
    1. Japanese sashimi (no photo)
I have got some salmon, tuna and crab roe. The Crab Roe was carried by a small dish, like the dish we use to carry sushi soy sauce. The salmon and tuna are quite fresh.

    2. Mushroom Cream Soup + Caesar Salad + Baked Scallop
Mushroom cream Soup: the restaurant also provide Chinese soup, I haven't tried it because I thought it is quite difficult to cook a good Chinese Soup outside, especially buffet. My parents tried the Chinese and western Soup both. they said the western soup was better. i think so. The cream soup was creamy. Also, there are many mushroom, carrot, vegetables inside the soup. Goodtongue
Caesar Salad: I chose a smoked salmon and the chest of duck, The salad was not very fresh, especially the lettuce.
Baked scallop: The taste is good. But it was a bit cool. The scallop is heated by the oven, I don't know what is the reason that it was cool, the hotel should place their food into a warmer temperature. many hot meals had the same prroblem
The soup is creamy, however, the Caesar Salad can be improved. The baked scallop is a bit cool
The soup is creamy, however, the Caesar Salad can be improved. The baked scallop is a bit cool

    3. Souffles
If you want to try the souffles in the buffet, you must be patient to wait and you need to be quick to get the only 8 souffles. However the waiting is valuable. The souffles stood up strongly. The texture of the souffles while eating was as same as eating cotton candy. I also tried a "egg-white souffle" (my dad said that it was, but i cant sure), that one was bad, it was too sweet but at the same time, there were some strange taste --> difficult to describe. I am not reccommand to you, it tasted bad!!!
    Good souffles!
    Good souffles!

    NO WAY!
    NO WAY!

    4. Steak + Irish Stew Lamb + Pizza + deep-fried Shrimp Ball + Baked Mussels
Steak: My mum said that it tasted good. after trying a piece of it. I also agreed. But the black pepper sauce was too spicy
Irish stew Lamb: the lamb was overdone, and it was tough, but the soup and the potatoes are tasty
Pizza: quite good, but dont compare this pizza with pizza hut, spaghetti house, etc. However, for buffet lunch , it was quite good and delicious
deep-fried Shrimp Ball: as same as chinese restaurant, thats it!
Baked Mussels: The garlic and onion seems not much work, the taste was not heavy, but i don;t really love it
    Overall have a fair performance
    Overall have a fair performance

    5. Oyster
I heard that the oysters today are come from France. I felt glad because a buffet that costed below $250 provided fat, delicious oyster. but remember not to queue up for oysters at the early period of buffet most of the people waited at that time, you can firstly have congee with crabs, bird-nests first. Since the middle, start to queue up for oysters, because everyone was only allowed to get two oysters per time.
The oyster was fat, but there were some sands. But anyway, it is much better to pay $500 but you couldn't have any oyster!!!!!!!
The oyster was fat, but there were some sands. But anyway, it is much better to pay $500 but you couldn't have any oyster!!!!!!!

    6. Desserts
Haagen Dazs ice cream: They provided many haagen dazs ice cream, I chose the cookies and cream and cream brulee, it is generous to provide haggen dazs in lunch buffet
    haagen dazs! Yummy
    haagen dazs! Yummy

Other desserts: Not very good, the chocolate tart seems like some medicine, totally failed!!!!!! the filling of the tart (white in colour) should be almond, cheese (???), cream. the 1st taste seemed good but the coming feeling was getting worse. Also, the choices of desserts were not enough. If you are dessertholic, here must be disappointing!
Dessert is not good, evenly bad
Dessert is not good, evenly bad

    Supplementary Information:
The drinks provided here is generous, they offered cold tea. That's mean this buffet restaurant provide cold drinks unlimited! it is a very good arrangement!

    sad

This restaurant is not worthy of any praise whatsoever. The 2 hrs tea time buffet is more like buffet at the wet market.

Arrived with 9 friends , the restaurant was bustling with people who appeared as if they hadn't eaten in a week. Pushing, shoving. Once you actually got to the counter for sushi, the result was salmon sushi which was of extremely bad quality. The salmon was smoked salmon. Not very good tasting at all.

There was plenty of choice, just none of good 4 star hotel quality. The Haagan Daaz ice cream fridge was of the incorrect fridge temperature and all of melting and more like cream.

My fiancee was bitten by what appeared to be pests, so this obviously does not say a lot about the food standard and hygiene. I complained via a letter to management to which they sent a reply not accepting responsibility whatsoever.

The waiters and waitresses show you the bill 45 minutes before the end of the buffet so you duely pay on time and do not remind you of any discount and also usher you out as if you were sheep at the stroke of 5:25 , 5 minutes before the end of the buffet.

Never again, would not recommend, poor service, poor hygiene, poor food, poor manners, poor decor, poor everything. If the choices were to eat here or not to eat I would not eat. Enough said.

after high recommendations me and my partner decided to try it out. as soon as you walk in you can't believe the siza of the sitting area and the buffet!!
we got seated right in the middle of the restaurant so it was rather noisy... and wasn't really "romantic" as such.

however the size and selection of the buffet definitely made up for it. definitely 1 of the biggest if not the biggest buffets we've been to. you can walk right to the back which you can easily miss where the congees, thai etc is.

there was a massive selection of cold starters such as sushi, crab legs, prawns and lots of different salads and "finger foods." the seafood was quite fresh.

the main courses had a vast choice too... duck, chicken, roast beef and chips, congees, thai, indian, noodles, lamb, kebabs...
the indian masala wasn't as spicy as we had wanted.. but still nice.

and the desserts.. wow. such a selection. from homemade souffles, bread and butter puddings, homemade crepes and waffles, chinese hot desserts, cakes and muffins etc. also a nicely stocked haagens ice cream freezer!!

the price is a bit pricey... about $500 inc 10%. but i think it's worth it if you're after a massive feast. prepare to go hungry because if you don't, you'll definitely miss out on so much.

also if you don't like noise... i wouldn't recommend it... the lobby is a littl quieter but you will be a bit away from the food.

came here with family of 6. Got the table in the lobby and pretty nice and quite (at least more quite). Lots of choices of food, and my best pick is the seafood congee with bird nest.

Didn't try the raw oyster since my stomach is pretty sensitive, but the salmon, and tuan are pretty fresh.

Dessert is another must try item(s). Lots of choices.

Be ware of the pricing if you are price sensitive.

Yummy tea buffet Just OK Nov 28, 2009

I went there with one of my good friends, and openrice cuopon requires 4 ppl ><
But we came up with an idea: join 2 more ppl at the restaurant before the tea buffet starts, and it works! We saved almost $200. Thanks for the kind couples ^3^

The desserts are goodlol, but I couldnt find deep-frying ice-creammad
The hot dishes are not that goodsad except the congeesmile
The sushi is ok but there are no salmon sashimihuffy

I like the environment there and the service
Just that a manager came to us at 5:30, reminding us that it's the end of the buffet
We kind of shocked: What? Shall we leave immediately, not able to finish the last few spoon of HD ice-creams??
He stayed besides us for awhile, and we ask whether we could finish our food, he said ofcourse. Then we feel a lot relaxed, Hahalol

    We are vyvyvyvyvyvy full
But I wont recommend you to go without the cuopon, and I highly recommend you to book the seats in advance.

too pricey for what they offer Cries Jan 22, 2009
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I went during the X'mas period with my bf. Overall, the environment was alright, but service wise, definitely have seen better (esp. in a hotel).

Food wise, quite a lot of variety. Seafood was great esp the oysters. Several dessert tables. The regular desserts (eg. cakes/puddings...) were just the usual stuff. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the made-to-order crepes, stir-fried fruits, VERY GOOD!! As for the other cooked foods I can only recall the lamb being more outstanding.

In the end, for the price I had to pay (double the regular during holidays??), for the kind of service that was received, and for the quality of the food available...I would not go again. Perhaps, you may want to give it a try when there is a promotional offer... JUST for the oysters and the crepes.

approx 750 dollars for 9 ppl. no elderly discount like shanghai hotel. a lot of choice. warm welcome at reception counter. a lot of toys and hats on each table. choir singer xmas song. piano player. santa clause around for kids. a lot of food choice. bird nest, shake soup, pamer ham, u name it,it has this. 1 time 1 year. i think worth with this expensive price. 300 dollar can have free parking. this is great too. unfortunately no discount for hsbc premium or platinum card like normal day. i dono why other ppl saying this hotel is 4 stars. if the boss LEE KA SHING can make it more grand. i think it can say as 5 stars. as we live in N.T. we do not want to pass tunnel to hk island hotel. we prefer t.s.t. hotel. but intercontentineal do not have fresh oyster and price is over 900 dollars. so we choose this hotel. we make a good choice. as we drive, we can pass those blocked road in t.s.t. for ppl countdown. those who drive can get my idea too. dont book shanghai hotel, pennisular hotel, sheroton hotel etc. coz when u leave the hotel, u will have a lot of trouble when driving home. waiter waitress very nice. very polite and change plates and food very fast. refill food very fast.

Having lunch buffet  Cries Oct 22, 2008

Went for lunch with my crush at this restaurant a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't as good as what I thought, tho it's like lots of common food put in a popular restaurant, that's all. Besides, the most disappointed dish is CART NOODLE. shocked

Still, I couldn't bare the hygiene at all, because there were tons of dirty plates and glasses! I just wondering did the cleaning ladies wash the dishes? It's a shame indeed. AND IT COSTS $200 something, is it worth? sad

However, some dishes are delicious, such as the creamy soup, congee, biscuitto corner, sushi sushi, chocolate fountain, crepe*** my favorite! and also ice cream with 8 popular flavors. I reckon the most friendly staff are from sushi sushi corner and dessert corner. smile

Fairly average Cries Sep 21, 2008
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Read quite a lot of postive good comment about this place, decided to give it a try for the lunch buffet.
Maybe we are having too much expectation, turn out feeling quite disappointed..
Well..there are quite a wide spread of food, but have to say none was outstanding.
    We tried :
salmon and octopus sashimi - average
Soup- cream of tomatoe - taste weird, not creamy but 'milky'
Indian cuisine - chicken curry & fish curry - Taste blend, not authentic
Hot dishes - fried rice, fried noodles (thai style), pork chop, chicken wings.. all average.
Dessert - the most important part in our buffet experience, however turns out to be a real let down. the blue berry cheesecake is not even half as good as Royal Garden
Souffle - too sweet to have any other taste
    waffle - cold & hard
Did not bother to try the rest as none look interesting.
Perhaps the best thing here is they have more flavors of Haagen Daz ice cream here
    - Vanilla, Chocolate, Cookies & cream, Green tea, Mango & passion fruit, Coconut etc..

Service was just as average as the food as well, the waiters were not attentive at all.

Will we go back again ? Well, don't think so,,,

do not feel like a hotel Smile Nov 27, 2007
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
PLACE - it was a decent hall, yet tables too clumped up, the location of the hotel is of course superb, and the view was supposed to be good too (if not of a the marquee set up for the wedding)

FOOD - huge variety, but nothing too amazingly good. i enjoyed the hot food most surprisingly, although the beef was not tender, the fish was overcooked, the hot pot beef was super chewy. but u can see they hv put in a thought and have provided less common things like the crab's fat for the congee condiment. their salad bar was just common, I was surprised the fruits were all low end fruits, the oysters were alright but not the crabs.

SERVICE - i asked for an oyster spoon, it took a waiter nearly 5 minutes to get back saying they dun hv anything similar and if a tea spoon was ok, i said yes, then it took another 3 minutes or more for him to get me a tea spoon (in the meantime, my bf has alreadi got me the small spoons which is exactly the same from the ice-cream bar). However, i recall one of female waiter was wearing an exceptional smile everytime she came to collect the plates, which i was impressed. every little counts afterall.

PRICE - i was surprised how there were 3 tables near-by who know each other but didnt come together, then i realise they were using 3 different harbour plaza card! the idea is a little stupid! anyway, it cost $513 for 2 after the discount.

COMPLAIN - my bf made reservation in cantonese at 9:55pm on sat, saying there is no table left for monday night and would require to put us onto the waiting list. I called at 9:58pm on the same night, managed to secure seats for monday night also, the only difference was I spoke in english. this has upset my bf a lot!

Overrated Buffet Cries Nov 12, 2007
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
I was first surprised by the price of this particular buffet. It cost me 468 even WITH HSBC credit card. I'm starting to wonder what will i get with this 468 dollars buffet, even the Marriott cost 300 sth. only. When i arrived, I was stocked by how many ppl. where there, the hall is HUGE and they practically stuff a table with 2 chairs wherever they think there's a space for them.

Food, there's tonnes of choices, if you are looking for choices and varieties you will be pleased by them in here, but DO NOT except good quality in there, since there's a lot of choices for you to pick. There's cold dish with oyster muscles cold crab and shrimp meat plate, smoke salmon salad
parma ham, and other smoke dry meat didn't really see what are they cos' there's nothing on the plate w/ only the tag. Hot dishes, Chinese, Swiss, Indian, typical Western Dishes. Still nothing special. A lot of sweet stuff, crepe, waffles, chocolate and strawberry milk chocolate fountain, cake, pudding, Egg Tart, Hagen-Danz.... etc (at least 3 counters) and the funny thing is the captain/manager/black suit guy actually told us not to eat too much other stuff and SAVE our STOMACH for the ice-cream which i think he believes to be the highlight... An ice-cream doesn't belong to their hotel and it's THE HIGHLIGHT how NICE!!

They didn't handle the food right which a lot of them are very much wasted. Say for example, the smoke salmon, it's almost a MUST for most of the buffets in Hong Kong. But doesn't mean the THICKER the BETTER, it's SO THICK it's hard to CHEW and you can still see the press mark from those wrapping paper on the food. HOW NICE~

The Souffle~ it's just PERFECT, the lady who cooked the thing for me she's really nice, cos' the first Souffle were a bit overcooked, the top sink, so she ask if she can help me to cook another one and mind if i wait for another 5 mins. of course it's ok i waited for another 5 mins., I thought it's gonna be good, but what did i get, a SKIN of chewy sweet dough and NOTHING underneath, NOTHING. No matter how nice she is it can't be mend.

13 of us went here last night to celebrate my parents anniversary. Since my father is a dining club member "A membership that allows you to get discounts at certain restaurants" there was a 30% discount.

Even though it was a Monday - all tables booked. With a price of over $300 this is really surprising. Food was average in terms of quality, but the choices are possibly one of the most I have seen. Particularly mention must be the dessert options, seems there's even more dessert choices than "Tiffins at Grand Hyatt".Hagen-Dazs ice-cream all you can eat - I forgot how many scoops I've had!
