A Birthday Dinner for me Smile 5 days ago
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
We decided to dine at Munch after reading some reviews from Openrice, on our recent trip to Hong Kong. Although it was for my Birthday, we didn't want something too expensive... but taste was definitely a consideration. The place was not very busy on a Sunday night and we got a table immediately.

Service was prompt, polite and thoughtful! They started us with a basket of warm bread and butter. Following that, all of the items tasted wonderful; this includes the caesar salad and my hubby, who is not a veg lover, commented on how the caesar dressing was perfect in taste without being too bland or heavy. The crab cake was as good as what other reviewers wrote, warm and delicious and we woofed it down in minutes. The truffle carbonara pasta was so good - sauce was perfect just like the salad and the portion was huge.

We were very full from the three dishes and managed to have dessert. The staff presented it with the Birthday art which delighted me very much. They also gave me a box of Munch chocolates as a gift for my birthday. The overall experience was excellent and I would highly recommend anyone to dine there, not just for a special ocassion =)

Munch Just OK Mar 25, 2013

It was late when we went so we didn't need a reservation to get a table at Munch. Although they have set dinners (appetizer + main + dessert + coffee/tea), we opted to order a la carte.

First we had the scallop salad:
    Scallop Salad
    Scallop Salad

This was so delicious. The scallops were fresh and there's a burst of contrasting texture from the scallops, water chestnut, jelly and avocados.

We also ordered the crab cake, which was also pretty good; unlike the experience of some of the other reviewers, our crab cake didn't have chunks of crab shells mixed in.
    Crab Cake
    Crab Cake

For mains, we had steak and lobster:
    Steak and Lobster
    Steak and Lobster

Although the steak was very tender, it wasn't exceptionally tasty. The lobster was a little too well done making the meat chewier than it should be.

And for dessert, we had the chocolate lava cake (with vanilla ice cream):
    Chocolate Lava Cake
    Chocolate Lava Cake

It was delicious! The chocolate was very thick but not overly sweet so even if you eat a lot, it doesn't make you queasy.

The service was okay - not overly great or memorable, but it wasn't bad at all either. The ambiance was good; there's not much of a view but the interior was designed to be conducive to slow, enjoyable dining.

Bread - taste good and served warm.

Crab cake - taste ok. But there were big pieces of shell in it huffy

Tuna steak (forgot the exact name) - again, taste ok but the tuna was over cooked (nearly well done while it should only be its surface being slighly grilled!) and it is cold (not warm ) huffy

Crab and asparagus risotto - this one is the only dish of the nite that was good. Lots of crab meat and asparagus was fresh

Frinks - we ordered 1 Aloe and lemon drink and 1 mocktail called Pink Dream. Both looked bad and tasted not good. The Aloe and Lemon drink was way too sour even the waiter said they added only little lemon juice but lots of honey. sad

Service - really bad. Take away our butter without asking while my friend not yet finish her bread. One of the waitress was long face all night. I don't think they could claim any "service" rendered

Overall, food taste ok but served badly. Drinks no good. With this budget / at this price, there would be a lot of better choice elsewhere. Just not deserve to come again.

Knutsford Terrace - Munch Smile Nov 09, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Decided to check out Knutsford Terrace for dinner after work on a weekday evening, and went to Munch following a friend’s recommendation.

The décor of the place was nice and modern, and the staff were very welcoming upon arrival.

My friend recommended their signature starter, the Lump Crab Cake served with a Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic Remoulade.
    Crab Cake

Have to say this was the best dish of the whole meal! I loooove garlic and roasted red pepper, which complemented the delicious, flakey crab meat – and the portion was huge!

After practically licking the plate clean, next was the main course:
    Lamb
    Lamb

Australia Lamb Rack with Porcini Mushroom & Potato Gratin. The portion was MASSIVE again, and the lamb (my favourite meat) was nicely flavoured, cooked to order [medium] and tender. The Gratin was pretty good too, but could have done with a few more mushrooms.

I barely had room for dessert after all that food, but I powered through to tackle a Strawberry Napoleon!
    Strawberry Napoleon

Layers of pastry, butter cream made a very rich end to the meal, while the strawberries and blueberries helped to punctuate the crunchy custardy goodness with little pops of fruity flavour. The chocolate ice cream that accompanied the dessert was a bit unnecessary – it was already sweet enough – although it tasted good!

Also had a glass of New Zealand Pinot Noir to accompany the meal, and that went down very nicely!

Service was good throughout and it was an enjoyable meal, at a reasonable price. Recommended.

P.S. Don't forget to make the reservation! Else you need to wait for long time.

lunch with mom after a movie,
we went here for a french style lunch.

as both of us couldn't choose the set from today's set lunch,
    we opened the main menu.

mother ordered baby pork leg with tomato sauce because she was on diet,
couldn't choose a too oily sauce.

    the bread was heated,
and the butter was at a right temperature.

i was aiming at gaining more weight,
therefore ordered french sauce stew lamb belly with carrot, onion, herbs and potatoes.

    the potato was amazing,

full of lamb and herbs taste,
also the texture was as good that it even tasted better than that in gaddi's the peninusula.

the lamb was very soft and able to eat all of them,

but service was actually quite bad that when i asked for an explanation of the cooking style of ths dish,
they seemed to be worrying that i would tell the whole world so they would face a closing,
huh? a small girl asking what was added to the sauce would make you close?

you call it fine dining? uh... Cries Aug 31, 2011
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
given the hugely positive fb the restaurant has owned. my dinner experience was very disappointing.

i chose a 238 dinner set of some kind of lamb steak. i asked for medium well, it came in much rawer, which is fine. but it was a bit burned, too rough, and does not taste much of lamb. the buttery potato stuff that comes with it is not a good idea either i would say. i also ordered wine, it was fine.

my husband opted for some truffle bacon spagehtti, uhhh, it was awefully greasy, and there's no way he could taste any truffle.

a friend went for some spinach pasta. the presentation looked ugly to me, and she did not finish it.

the black tea that came with my set, was lipton yellow lable tea. i'll have problem if you call it fine dining.

overall, it's just totally ordinary, if not bad, for a 466hk$ dinner of two.

    to share.....haha.......
hot French bread with butter came immediately.........
butter is so soft and light........
then the main course comes quickly~!>v<
it was wonderful just because of adding a little yogurt on the heavy red wine sauce.........
the lamb was so soft and tender........
and i usually don't like carrot but i have them all eaten today~!
the rice is also very special with some long black ones mixed inside.........
    very nice smell and surprising~!
just want a little more yogurt~!tongue
then comes the cold chocolate sharing with brother........
um........he said that it was like water.........
huh? already a BUNCH of cream on top and so deep in color in the chocolate part........
i didn't drink a lot because i can taste so much heavy cream inside.........
it will be an encore choice but must invite friends~!
because one person WOULD NEVER finish a whole set~!
    so large in portion~!

Good food and service Smile Nov 11, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
Want to find a new restaurant for my wife’s birthday, heard that Munch provide very good food and service, also it’s location is 諾士佛台 with good atmosphere, I gave it a try this year.

We were there a bit early, around 6:30pm, so we were the first customer (we saw them setting up the table...), we had a small table at the corner with window, the view is ok looking down 諾士佛台.

They have quite limited choice, either set dinner or a la carte, not a lot of choices for a la carte, heard that their crab cake is pretty good but my wife cannot eat crab at the moment so I decided to give it a skip…..we finally ordered two set dinner, mine was Wagyu 面珠”燉” ($228) and my wife ordered veal rack steak ($278) as main dish for our sets.

My salad and her soup came, the Caesar Salad was very fresh and taste just right, very good, her soup also very fresh and refreshing (tomato soup), both are pretty good.

Then my main dish came, the size is quite big, bigger than my expectation as I know Wagyu 面珠”燉” is very expensive, two pieces about 80% of my palm, with vinegar foam at the top and mash potato at the bottom, when cut into it, I can feel it’s very tender and soft, also can feel the stickiness from the 根, also very soft, this taste very good, very tender, juicy and soft, we both give this dish 90 points, highly recommend!!!

Then came the veal rack steak, presentation is nice, but it seems too overcooked, a bit dry but the taste was ok, we both said this dish also taste good, we didn’t feel it as good is because we just had a very nice dish, but anyway we finished it with nothing left…..

Then came the drink, I had hot coffee but it’s quality is quite bad….bad x 10, very watery and tasteless…couldn’t finish it at all XDD.
    huffyhuffyhuffy

When we ready to pay the bill, we told our waitress that the veal was too overcook, we just wanted to reflect this to the chef so he can get this improve, but after a while she brought us a apple cake as the apology, we were surprise!! But unfortunately the cake was way too sweet…we were only able to finish half…but we really appreciate their service.

Definitely we will go again for another occasion, we did enjoy the place a lot!

P.S.: We only notice there were already full house when we left….

2 different group came here for lunch on two consecutive Sundays

Not too noisy - may be due to not quite convenient location.
1st Sunday - only 3 tables of guests
    2nd Sunday - more than 10 tables

there are regular menu & lunch menu of the day. Comes with drink
    Optional to add
    - salad $15
    - cake of the day $25
    ...

Generally, portion are reasonable for all adult & taste good

Normally items from al la carte menu would not be served during lunch but we requested in advance during reservation so we enjoyed the famous premium crab cake even at lunch

chopstick mixed green salad $15 - not very fresh but very cold, we picked honey mustard & there was vvery little salad dressing
chopstick bread & butter - not the same each week, fresh & taste good
chopstick Tomato Risotto $59 - delicious, risotto not to soft/ hard - perfect
chopstick Shrimp & cheese Risotto $69 - fresh shrimp taste great
chopstick Shrimp, spinach & mushroom Risotto $69 - good
chopstick meat lasagna $69 - rich tomato flavour with lots of meat sauce, good
chopstick premium crab cake $98 - quite large portion, lots of crab meat, cruncy by the side & good with the sauce
chopstick apple crumble - taste great, apple was not sour, crumble was cruncy & smell good
    chopstick coffee - so so
chopstick lemon tea - fresh lemon, good

    service, always polite +
but different experience from 2 visits
    - above average, when we didnt finish the salad, waiter came & asked whether the salad was not ok & offer to exchange for another type of salad; flexible in seat arrangement
    - brought us hot water when we requested warm one; gave us hot water when we requested an extra cold one

I only noticed this restaurant after i saw it name on openrice. As an upstairs restaurant, its not doing enough to catch customers' attention among the various restaurants in Knutsford Terrace.
I ordered roasted duck breast and my friend tried the mushroom risotto. The display of the food is simple but nice. The duck breast is quite thick but the sauce worth a bonus mark . There arent any big surprise with the food but its a nice bargain.
I had a creme brulee at the end and its just fair.

could had done better. Cries Jan 22, 2010
Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
well... it was a dinner for 2.

it was my turn to host and pick a restaurant. so came on openrice to check for some highly recommended ones. end up picking Munch.

it was an ordinary wednesday night, 8pm. I did book a table but seems like it wasn't really a necessary move. The moment I arrived, feels pretty good, but could be better if I had asked for a table beside the windows during the booking. O well, plenty of spaces between each table giving us some good privacy for our little gossip.

I arrived before she did, so I tried to check out the dishes mentioned by other writers on Openrice, however, couldn't really find them on the menu, wondering if they have revised it lately. She came a bit late and did the exact same move and of course, getting the same result.

So we just randomly picked our dishes from the menu. we ordered a starter, don't really remember the name, goose liver with potato and pumpkin. disappointing dish as goose liver seems to be a bit un-fresh, well, the side dish taste quite "special" especially "new" tasting experience, not to mention good or bad.

    We ordered two main dishes.
    1. pumpkin rice with chicken.
    2. a combination of steak, shrimp and flounder.

Pumpkin rice arrived before the the steak, looks very pretty and tasty with a lot of pumpkin sauce on top of the rice. however, it ended up being the most disappointing dish of the night. the sauce is pretty good, however, the rice itself is very chewy. it is not those rice we normally eat in other restaurants. I am not sure about this but I think they use mexican rice which are bigger in terms of size when compared to the traditional chinese restaurant rice. well. it definitely is not the best choice of lazy people like us. disappointing.

The steak was not as good as expected. perhaps its my mistake ordering a 50% done one. should had asked for a more rare one. This time, its not only her complaining about the shrimp being not very fresh, even a pig like me can give the same comment. o well, a good thing is the flounder was up to some standard, the only thing that did not disappoint us as much. or is it because we had already lowered our standard and didn't expect as much? who knows. anyway, I found the flounder acceptable.

Didn't order any dessert as the other dishes was not really up to expectation. so we just stayed for a long chat. It was a really a good place to chat, loved the brightness there, not too bright while not too dark, right on.

one thing to mention is that they love to put pumpkin in their dishes, 3 dishes that we ordered, all of them came with pumpkin. she is a pumpkin lover so am I, those mashed pumpkin (side dish) end up being the best thing we put in our stomach for the night.

$480.00. well, perhaps we were expecting a bit too much ahead of time. anyway, I guess its time to search for a better restaurant.

Recommended Dish(es):  anything with mashed pumpkin as a side dish. the main course might be disappointing but you still got a good side dish at least.

    Four girls had birthday dinner.

ordered two appentiser and two main courses first. The waiter said that we didn't have enough and asked us to order one more main course. I hate someone forcing me to order things. Actually we got enough.

Deep fried crab cake $98: quite much crab. OK.

Salmon fruit salad $69: don't know why there is red pepper inside. spicy.

Chickentrisotto with pumpkin $145: the risotto is rather hard. not quite good.

Pork blade with apple roll $158. the pork was raw inside. We asked the waiter. He said that the pork is not well-done so the meat will be tender. But that is pork! How can it be eaten without 100% cooked. Then he asked whether we would like to have well-done. We said of course. After it was grilled again, the waiter said it is 100% cooked. What ridiculous! howevver, actually, part of it wasstill pink. very disappointed.

we have melted chocolate cake with icecream $68 and creme brulee $68 for dessert. the melted chocolate is so so. the creme brulee had three flaover, plain, sesame and lavenders. too little each. can't eat the egg at all. so so only.

the price is not cheap. the service is not good (noone replace the plates for us, stupid waiter....). not quite worthy for it.

Went there with 2 colleagues. We had one pizza and 2 salads. The pizza was just so so, one person can finish it if not sharing with anyone. The first salad was cesar salad and we can order extra smoke salmon with it. The 2nd salad was more special and tasty with grapefruit and red colour rapsberry sauce. It was a light dinner but I think I will definitely go back and try other stuffs in their menu. The chef got a French recognition diploma and it's being displayed at the entrance. There are also a lot of pics with actors and actresses who have been to the restaurant. Price wise it's reasonable being located in the heart of TST.
