    Californian Wines of the Day.
A Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a Cabernet Sauvignon.

    .

Pigs Ears were highly exceptional in both taste and texture!

    .

Flambeed ‘Drunken’ Jinga Shrimps - 火焰基圍蝦
These prawns are becoming rare to find in town.

    .

Roasted Suckling Pig and Char Siu Pork - 叉燒拼乳豬
The Suckling Pig is probably one of the best I have ever tried. The Char Siu with its Maltose was also addictive. Hard to fathom why I discovered here so late either. Totally amazing Pig!!

    .

Dracontomelon Duperreanum Sauce, Smoked Baby Duck - 仁稔醬香燻BB鴨
Another wonderfully fragrant dish. The Baby duck meat was tender with crispy skin, but the sugary tea aroma was so exotic. A must order. And priced so fairly.

    .

    Signature Fried Rice - 錦繡桃李飯
Fried with Duck Meat, Prawns, Gai Lan and lots of eggs. This was the elegant hotel style of fried rice without being too dry like a Dai Pai Dong version. Really appreciated this.

    .

House Made Tofu-Fa on the fly -
Very tofu soy like in taste, but smooth as milk. Probably one of the best tofu fas I have had in HK.

    I ordered a waffle with chocolate+strawberry ice-cream. it costs 75.
though it's a bit over-priced, it was GREAT.
the waffle tasted very good with companion of the chocolate ice-cream. one hot one cold and they just matched perfectly.
the chocolate sauce and honey provided made the waffle extremely delectable. well, my taste bud begged me for more of that.
the environment is good, though the place is a bit small. the location is very good; easy to find.
the staff is so-so, they are quite dumb honestly

I don't usually write reviews on restaurant because it is extremely hard to have a restaurant impress me to this extend. I am not saying this restaurant is perfect and it deseves some kind of michelin star award or whatsoever(to me michelin star restaurant is not very convincing). Anyway, I was reading a vacation magazine last week with my colleagues and its just happened that this issue features some of the new and best seafood restaurant in town. We are all seafood lovers and usually don't have the time to travel to renowned places like Sai Kung and Lamma Island. And this restaurant is somehow pretty close to our office and so we decided to give it a try. Anyway, lets talk a bit about the food. We had a 8 courses pre-set menu by the owner and it cost us $600 per person including 2 bottles of red wine (9 pax total). The dinner started off with a dish of honey glazed walnut and a pan fried beef, these 2 dishes go well with the red wine. After the starters, we had a very nice jumbo shrimp sashimi, this is probably the best shrimp sashimi that I ever had in my life. After that, they served us with a pig-lung soup which I didn't drink(I do not like chinese soup, seems like they use weird ingredients to cook it). But my colleagues loved it and they finished my share. After the soup, we had a big steam fish and steam crab with chinese wine sauce. The steam fish and the steam crab tasted awesome, my colleagues told me it cost at least double or triple if we ordered this kind of fish at the restaurant where we usually go for lunch(we worked at the ICC), and the quality might not be as good. After the above dishes, we were already full, and the dinner wrapped up with 2 dishes of vegatables and a chinese desert. The owner of the restaurant is an expert in seafood, he told us what kind of fish is good for which season and he promised he will prepare something totally different for our next visit. I look forward to go back again and see what he is going to surprise me.

i was quite surprised by its popularity on openrice. that's why i decided to go there to see why it had so many positive ratings.

well, the restaurant is a mecca for OLs and families. even though i arrived after lunch hour, the place was packed with countless people.
this was the first time i visited this restaurant after its renovation. and well, i was satisfied. the food quality was up to scratch and the prices were amazingly low. the environment is good as well, though the place was unbelievably crowded. well, if u want a cozy and plush dining place, this one doesnt suit u; but if u want to fill ur stomach without paying a lot of $$, this place will be ur cup of tea.

well well well. for food. i ordered swedish meat balls, salmon spaghetti and fried chicken wings.
for meat balls, they were very swedish== and savoury. it was good but not very good. but i quite appreciate that the meat juice was there.
the spaghetti was great. It costs only 29 but the quality is well above 29. the sauce is yummy and the salmon is good, though a bit over well done.
the chicken wings were fine... but i wont recommend that. it was too salty and ...erm... unhealthy

i also ate a chocolate brownie... which was ... not good. too sweet for me.
    good and cheap!

Well, this is the fifth time i visited this restaurant. and every time, i was impressed by the high-quality services and food there.
though a lunch set costs about 300, the delectable dishes and the heartwarming services made it worthwhile.

Every dish is a slice from heaven. if u visit sabatini, ur taste bud will experience the finest italian dishes that u can find in HK.
the spaghetti is fa-bu-lous. I love the linguine there and it was one of the best dishes that i have ever savoured in my whole life.
the coffee there is breathtaking. the desserts are mouth-watering and extremely yummy. the napoleon is a must-try
the waiters there are well-trained, handsome and polite which are the qualities that most waiters in HK are lacking.
the atmosphere is brilliant. suitable for couples and lovers.

    Creme Brulee: creamy

Very nice Smile 1 day ago

Been given the tough task of finding a nice place to take a girl on our first date and being new to HK (less than 6 months) whilst trying to impress my date who had been living here for half her life, I wanted to find something a little different. After asking around for a Tuesday night date option a friend told me about Le Marron....

Very very nice set up. The tables along the back wall are basically divided up by draws/curtains making it very intimate. Very authentic decorations to make it feel like a genuine romantic, family owned restaurant somewhere- only thing that isn't authentic is the fact that the place is very well maintained and in pristine condition, unlike some of the more traditionally slightly run down places through europe!.

Food was very good. Shared the seafood platter for starters- bit of a risk on the first date trying to crack open the lobster and crab, but managed and went down well...for main I had the Australian Tomahawk- cooked exactly to order, which is always nice. Date had the pasta with mushrooms and no complaints from her. for dessert we couldn't decide so ended up sharing 3- apple crumble, chocolate pudding (i think their signature) and pavlova (favorite).

Took a date, but would also go back for a nice mid-week dinner with family/friends. Probably reminds me most of our local family Italian restaurant (even though this is french), which we used to dine at every so often, but still very nice and suitable for those one off special events. They have definitely got the intimate/authentic/comfortable feel right, something i think is hard to find in Hong Kong amongst the big name expensive places like Aqua and the heavy bar scene.

And of course, the date went welI. wouldn't be bothering to write this otherwise.... lol

With the rising popularity of Japanese ramen, there ought to be many shops over the buzzling districts in Hong Kong. For instance, Butao Ramen is undeniably one of the leading ramen shops over town.
Being one of the hottest ramen shops, a queue is undoubtedly necessary, especially when it is not a huge and spacious shop.
There was a queue outside the shop already when we got there. The waiters gave us the paper for ordering and a menu during our wait, so our orders can be taken immediately right after we get our seats.
There were not many choices on the menu. It basically only serves the four typical ramens: the Yellow King (豚王), the Black King (黑王), the Red King (赤王), and the Green King (翠王). There were also two off-menu options, which are the Genki King (元氣王) and the Prawn King (海老王).
We waited for about 40 minutes and we finally get to enter the long-anticipating ramen shop. As we walked in, there booms the welcoming from the staff, all giving us a loud greeting for coming to the shop. We've decided to go for the basic typical ones and ordered one Yellow King and one Black King, and picking all medium for the soup base, texture of noodles, amount of scallion, amount of garlic and so on and so forth.
Fast enough, thankfully, the ramens are ready. Starting with the Yellow King, it is actually of a classic pork bone soup base. The soup is cooked 20 hours with pork bone, resulting in a full-bodied soup base, rich in flavor and almost creamy in texture. The noodles, unlike the Tokyo variety which is more common among Hong Kong's Japanese restaurants, are thinner and way more chewy, as well as giving an al dente texture. The ramen came out perfect, with the addition of grounded sesame, it is totally exquisite.

As for the Black King, the broth includes squid ink and the soup is relatively a bit more intense. The flavor is more strong and it is more savory yet it might be a bit heavy to some. This is an alluring option but you would want to mind your teeth and lips from getting black from the squid ink.

The essence of ramen is the soup and it would be the stupidest thing ever to not drink it. The soup base, as mentioned above, is very rich, and msg-free. That of the Black King ramen might be a bit too heavy to down it all, but you shouldn't waste that of the classic Yellow King and drink it all. After you have drunk all the soup, you would find two big letters of 'Thank You' at the bottom of the bowl, which would quite be a delight to see.
To sum up, I think the ramen here is a tasty perfection. Not only in taste but the sincerity of the making of it. A 40-minute queue is totally worth it for such quality.

Congrats to Madam Sixty Ate for its excellent food and venue with a difference! We booked a large table for lunch to celebrate a baby shower for a friend and the staff were the first who really understood our needs. We chose a combination of items from a good value set menu, plus I chose off the ala carte. I had the madams salad - crunchy romaine lettuce hazelnuts avocado and sliced red onion with lemon vinaigrette was light and lovely served in a long plate. perfect for cleansing the palate and as a starter. The chicken consume was lovely - inclusive of a delicate piece of poached chicken and then a side garnish of lemon creme with crispy skin. The consume was clear and lovely! Several took the option of the wine paring but I tried the juice delish which was just the refreshing thing for a hot day - fresh grapefruit with a touch of grenadine elegantly served with a slice of fresh pink grapefruit on the side of the glass. Our other guests were very enamoured with the ravioli and the duck from the set menu as highlights. Hmm's and ahhs are always a good sign when eating out! The charcuterie menu tempted several of the other diners in our group and the ice-cream and the other deserts were delicious. Elegant portions yes, but it was done beautifully and was enough to satisfy our group. Must say the service was excellent from taking the booking to the table side. Water glasses were always refilled food arrived promptly and we felt very looked after. We tried to book at some other venues and really were put off. Some for not taking bookings nor letting us bring decorations for the table. All in all the Staff at Madam Sixty ate know how to cook great food with great service in a great setting! tongue
    Supplementary Information:
do note that the entrance is on Ship Street - and exact positioning is slightly misplaced on the iPhone maps function - just its the opposite side of the road. good value set lunch offers interesting choices and an option to have wine pairings with either a 2 or 3 course menu.

This is the second time we came, celebrating Mother's day with another couple from Beijing.

Our friends wanted lamb, so this is where we picked for the variety of lamb dishes that we had in north and western parts of China. We have traveled to North Africa and the Middle East, and the decor reminded more of the Middle East than Xinjiang.

There is a good variety of lamb dishes and other games such as rabbit and camel hump, and of course beef and chicken for the more ordinary palate.

The lamb skewers were light on spices, and very lean, as compared to the ones you get in the Moslem or Hui quarters in Beijing or Xian. A bit dry, actually, compared to what you get as kebabs in the Middle Eastern restaurants in Hong Kong such as Turkish or Lebanese. The ground cumin and chillies on the side does not compensate for under spicing. A bit too sanitized. Recommend the chef here makes visit to the Xinjiang club restaurant in Beijing to learn spicing.

The boiled lamb ribs/belly were fatty and smelly as those cuts are supposed to be. The accompanying sauce can be spicier, or a bit more garlic. The air conditioning blew on the plate and the fat quickly congealed, which was not a pleasant experience. A bowl of broth was provided to warm up the meat, but that was not quite enough. In Inner Mongolia, the dish was accompanied by a big bowl with pieces of meat swimming inside.

The numb-hot lamb chops were the most disappointing of the three. The chops were dipped fried and topped with chopped peppercorns and chillies. The flavours did not have a chance to get though the chops which then had no flavour. The chops should have been marinated. Bit of a waste.

The rabbit stew with cous cous was delicious, not gamy, I would recommend that they more couscous dishes in addition to the rice. About the rice casserole dishes, perhaps the rice were coated with too much oil, the raisins and carrots did have a chance to really melt through and imbue their flavours. Maybe a tagine (beyond Silk Road) would help?

WitH so many restaurants serving la mien in Hong Kong, the stir fried noodles here is really the best. It is really super al dente, came in irregular shapes and width, and delicious.

Overall, the food was good, but a bit on the pricy side. For dinner, there is a $250 per person minimum. We thought we would not be able to spend that much, but the portions are really small, so we had to order two portions or more per person to get filled. We will still go there, but only on special occasions.

Cycling day with great friends. Rainy day no good. But we pressed on nonetheless in the cold, pouring rain. Thankfully nobody fell ill. Lunch was mid-way. We were starving and cold. Any hot food tastes good. This is just a very brief record of this restaurant because honestly I don't remember much from a causal dining experience 2 months ago. tongue

Pretty biker-friendly. No pretenses, and there's a little outdoor area which might be nice if you come during autumn. There is a little space at the entrance to park bikes. Around 3-4 adult-sized bikes. Interesting, thoughful decor here and there - this is, after all, a cafe of country art. tongue There are 2 washrooms. One is upstairs. There are more seats upstairs.

    Service:
Friendly, helpful and accommodating! One waitress saw that we had some trouble getting the bikes onto the front porch and helped us rearrange some chairs. lol Feels like a home business. I liked the casual and relaxing atmosphere. We are bikers. We don't do manners. tongue

As we arrived about the time of late lunch, therefore we don't need to queue at all for the seat 1) the manner of the servers are pretty professional, ESP the manager who gave us a pleasant feeling and provide adequate recommendation.2) environment is fairy good, have a bit of privacy between tables.3) the refreshment drinks and tea are nice and fresh4) food presentation and temperature are excellent. A warm reminder from the server that be aware hot juice coming out from the fried meatball.Overall, it s a very nice restaurant and I will definitely become a repeat customer of it.

Islam food it is named, apparently it serves halal meat. Yet I did not come all the way to Kowloon City just for halal meat. I came here for their renowned Beef Patties 牛肉餅.
I suppose it normally has a long queue of people longing to try their signature dishes, but since it's the morning on a weekday, there was no queue outside the shop but the restaurant inside seemed to be full. We didn't bother to go in and check if there were enough seats for us, we just ordered a take-away for the beef patties.
We made our order and the waitress kindly asked us to wait as the beef patties would be freshly cooked upon order. We sat down on chairs outside the shop, which are for people to sit when there is a long queue.
Soon enough, our beef patties were ready. I totally couldn't wait to try it. At first bite, I was already enjoying my time sucking the juice inside the patty. The beef patty is extremely juicy and I was pretty amazed by the masterwork of making the pastry as it would not easily break with the large volume of juice inside yet not too thick. The pastry wouldn't get too heavy in taste as well. For the beef, the freshness of it overwhelmed me. The use of halal beef is just a bonus to contribute the quality of the beef I believe. With the addition of scallion, it tasted absolutely savory. Everything about it was very well-balanced and made it a flabbergasting sensation to savor it. Just a kindly reminder: you might want to be gentle and careful when you eat the beef patties because the juice may leak out and it would be hot as they are all freshly made upon order.

Even though I only had the beef patties, I could definitely tell that their other dishes wouldn't be too bad. Hopefully one day I would visit again and try out their other dishes, but no matter what, the beef patties would be a must order. Even right now the savory sensation is tingling on my tongue and was still longing for more.

A few of us bloggers wanted to come and try out the Greenery 雅苑座's French May Buffet. There were a lot of choices for seafood, and surprisingly the roast meats were very good too. This has been a favourite buffet spots for some of us, and the price is quite decently priced if you download the coupons here. Only around $400 per person.

Tiger Prawn and Beef Tenderloin - You are entitled to one dish of this Main.
The Tenderloin was ok but not much flavours. But it was the gratinated prawn which was surprisingly great.

    Escargot -
Snails on pomme puree with herbs. Part of the French theme this month.

    Yakitori Grill -
The mushrooms and beef are quite good. The beef tongue is actually more like a salt cured version.

Surprisingly Good Quality Roast Meat, Char Siu and Suckling Pig here -
The Char Siu can be better or worst depending on your batch, but you just need to be patient.

    Seafood -
I like the mini crawfish, but apparently, some people don't like it much. So they can have Crab instead.

    More Seafood in Broth -
The Spotted Crab is ok. It's their clams and scallops which are great here. These include 貴妃蜆, 紅毛鏡, 花甲, 沙白, etc.

    Freshly Made Crepe -
This is KENT's dessert. Filled with some bananas and chocolate and cream.

We had a lot more food than the 12 photos allowed here, and even the Tiramisu we had in the end was quite good, dare I say up to par with the Sabatini version if not more!. A very economical Buffet indeed, and this French Menu is attractive and runs until June.
