The new menu is specialized for hot humid season in Hong Kong, by largely using lime and lemon leaves; instead of garlic-rich curry in such thickness, light sweet curry with coconut ingredients is used for the dishes, through a complicated and time-consuming process (slow-cook).

Decent and comfortable dining space in dark red tone, which expresses a far Asian beauty to everyone steps into the restaurant. The restaurant is not big but still enjoys a wide view of busy Wyndham Street.
Welcome Drink: Lentil Soup with Pani Puri Stuffed with Smashed Potato

Every guest is warmly welcomed by the selected welcome snack when they are seated. That night, we had typical puri snack. Puri, is a normal breakfast (bread) in Indian, which is unleavened deep-fried. What we had has the smashed potato fillings, which is not too greasy and slightly salty at right point. The little shot of Lentil Soup looks like pumpkin soup, tastes warm but performs less-outstanding.

To start with Pappad, as a normal Indian subcontinent or an appetizer, we love these thin and crispy crackers so much, because it is dry and light enough topped with fresh chopped onion, tomato, herbs and special spices, it is absolutely a right starter to make our stomach well prepared for the coming spices and curry.

This new dish from the Summer Menu is well decorated. Chicken is carefully marinated for 12 hours and infused with the essence of lemon leaf and grated lemon zest, then topped with coconut powder to have a milky yellow coat. The exotic spices is deeply in the soft chicken slices, plus a little coconut sweet and fragrance.

Naan, using refined flour bread, has richer middle-layers than the normal ones I have tried before. The lovely baked prints on the surface was well paired to the slightly over-baked aroma in front of us, and I was so impressed to the fluffy texture of Cheese Naan. I was feeling I could eat two more baskets of Cheese Naan by my own.

Mackerel fish marinated with South Indian spices, we simply dip it by our Naan. It has a stronger focus on the spices rather than curry, so that we are not overwhelmed by heavy Indian curry flavor.

Slow braised lamb shank cooked with secret spices of Jashan Chef, it is such an eye-catching dish. We could easily depart the lamb from the shank bone and release the fresh pink inside to the air. It doesn't have a strong lamb flavor, but the warm lamb slowly 'dissolved' in the mouth is so perfect with a slightly sweet sauce in a rich flavor of spices.

Indian homemade ice cream (Kulfi) with fresh mango, saffron and almonds milk was our first dessert. Kulfi, differs from the Western ice cream, to have a denser and creamier texture. The Kulfi is orange in large, decorated with pistachio and saffron on the top to add more nuts aroma. The solid ice cream is full of almonds milk flavor, melts so slow in your mouth, and even you shall chew it to speed up. It is not in its sweetness as an Indian dessert standard, so that most of Hongkongers could take it without worrying, plus everyone likes mango throughout the whole year in Hong Kong right?!

To be honest, I would for sure give a low mark to this dessert, in terms of 'Presentation'! However, I would like to suggest everyone to try this Winter Dessert. It is presented warmly, with a rice-sticky texture. This famous dessert is taken during all festivals in India, while actually is widely eaten in North India and Pakistan. It is cooked with fresh carrots, milk and nuts, served warmly and fill the last empty space of your stomach without any indecent experience in your mouth.
To mention the expenses of a normal Indian dinner at Jashan, a reasonable and even good price is offered in terms of quality, dining atmosphere and location (Central, Soho).
