Is $14 worth for a local egg waffle "gei-dan-chai" (literally, "little eggs")? It cost about $10 in the past, I would say, it could cost even $8 or less in 2003 or earlier, but what's the point? It's now 2014, with a flock of Mainland visitors and their hunger for "local" taste as featured in Hong Kong movies, could we have the same product marked at $10 still with desirable quality? Well.. think about how much it can price up to at commercial areas or in a hotel, at about $20 something, with taste and quality control far from satisfactory, you'd know.
And you can hardly find one store who timely manage the balance of eggy smell, taste of tenderly smooth and soft inner body in such thick, and at the same time, handling its crunchy skin nicely. Don't spare it till last moment, try it right away.. when you collect the "gei-dan-chai" packed in traditional postage parcel paper bags, hold it for about 1 minute in spring term, let it settle a bit for the crunchiness before you crack separate one piece of "little egg" from the comb with a cracky sound!
Sometimes it would take a long line up to 10 people or more for egg waffle plus the pancake. It also got its blessings from Joey Lau, as seen from its posters adhered to its wall, on how thankful they received the store's waffle as a reward to their efforts put on the concert.
Every thing prepared by heart shall receive such a blessing, and mine to the store as well!
