There was this sudden urge that I wanted to eat Japanese omlette rice. I remembered going to the Wood House in Tsim Sha Tsui for the best Japanese omlette rice I ever had in Hong Kong. But how about the Hong Kong Island? Not until I have discovered the Omerice
To be honest, I won't say that Omerice is the best. The best remains as the Japanese cafe at Wood House (I forgotten the name ) But what made me think that Omerice deserves some praises and revisits were its "homey" setting, fresh omlette rice and caring service.
The setting was very interesting and comfortable, it made you feel as though you were at a family-running store. I was so caught up with all the decorations, especially the Beatles poster! Very Japanesey indeed.
Cover was provided for your coat on the chair
As for the service, I was very impressed. One of the staff spotted me with a thick coat, trying to hang it on the chair, and she immediately came over to take care of the coat by putting a cover over it. I was surprised that a tiny shop like Omerice had thought about this servicing aspect, very nice!
Omerice with fresh eel in secret sauce
The highlight of the lunch set was only the Japanese omlette rice. And I mean it when I say "only". The small bowl of salad and hot lemon tea were quite awful! I stopped after having a few bits and zips - the salad felt unfresh and the lemon tea was too plain like water. Now move on to the omlette rice! The presentation was very good. The ketchup decoration was something that the cafe at Wood House did not do. But sadly the outer layer of the egg was too thin, I could not feel the richness of the egg and it did not cover the rice perfectly. Perhaps one should focus on the fried rice with fresh eel instead. The rice was delicious, something magical must have happened by the so-called "secret sauce". The fresh eel was not too fresh though. Overall it was pretty good, I appreciate the ingredients to the omelette rice!
Charging at HKD$90 was probably too expensive for a lunch set at Tin Hau, this price could get me a more than decent lunch set in Central IFC. I wonder why that was the case for such a high price setting.. the fresh eel was not that "fresh" to me afterall.
