Dined at Chit Chat Oyster Bar, finally, last night. Had been meaning to try it since HK Magazine higlighted it in a feature about Sai Wan Ho restaurants more than one year ago. It's a bit of a haul for us, but it was so worth it! Had never been to Sai Wan Ho before. Very nice and peaceful and much more local than further West on the island. Nice community and even nicer to be able to walk along the harbour after our dinner! Chit Chat faces the water and has floor to ceiling windows that partially slide open, so you it's sort of semi-al fresco...if you use your imagination, which I did! The service was friendly and attentive. The set dinners are quite a deal, for Hong Kong!
The food...we ordered the lobster set for 2, which was only 648 or 658 HKD. We got a choice of salad/app (scallop and tomato salad - nice), choice of soup (lobster bisque - very delicious, nice and briny, with less cream than usual, which we liked), a 20 oz lobster (good), a 9oz steak (perfectly cooked, "medium" was nice and pink and tender on the inside), bread basket and a trio of desserts (chocolate "pudding" heart, which was quite similar to a molten chocolate cake that is thinner on the cake part and has plenty of "molten" chocolate on the inside - totally awesome!, tiramisu - the only disappointment of the night, very poor as HKG tiramisus always are - sponge rather than ladyfingers, no alcohol or coffee to soak them with and some kind of weird whipped cream vs. mascarpone folded with a custard; ice cream - good). As mentioned, everythign was really delcious with the exception of the tiramisu, and with so much food, we could not have cared less that one thing was less than perfect. I highly recommend this place for a nice date.
Oh! And the house wines are only 39 HKD a glass! The chardonnay was quite good! And last, as I walked by others tables and saw what they other dishes looked like (lamb, other cuts of steak, etc.), I decided we should probably return and try those out too. So nice to enjoy a good meal w/nice service and go home with some money in your pocket!
