I chose this restaurant because I had heard it was opened by the same people behind Ka Ma Do on Peking Rd. We arrived early to find the restaurant with only a couple of tables taken. We were given a table by the windows and the restaurant's view from the 28th floor is killer, but whether this is worthy of another visit remains another question. For three people, we ordered:
Uni + salmon caviar on rice ($100) I didn't try this dish, but the it looked tasty enough. My family thought the uni was really fresh and loved the rice.
Tempura Udon ($110) Here a bowl of springy round udon was served with two shrimp and one shiso leaf tempura on the side. For over 100, the bowl was rather small and not to forget the tiny size of the shrimp. The broth was a disappointment, with nothing special - forgettable. The udon was the round kind, and had a chewy texture - a first for me as I usually order inaniwa udon. Anyway, eating this reminded me of Tokoro's and how much I miss their unique broth.
Yellow tail in terikyaki sauce (grilled) $160 A small fillet was served and my initial reaction was disappointment. I have never had grilled yellow tail and found the texture quite similar to cooked tuna, but slightly less rough. The taste of the teriyaki marinade was not bad but the ingredients used to make this dish is relatively simple and cheap.
King Crab hot pot $2xx Forgot to take a picture of this, but this was probably the most unworthy item on the menu. There are several 'hot pots' which are described as fit for two. This hot pot came on a stove with a few pieces of cabbage and mushrooms and......ONE crab leg that was split into three - the two joints and the claw. Yes the crab leg was quite big but to give only one leg when its meant to be 'for two'? The broth was naturally sweet from the crab, good, but again unworthy of its price...
Eel rice $100 For 100 I guess I was expecting a full piece of fish rather than half of a small fillet. There was a bowl of rice under, the nice fat grains saved the dish, for the eel was truly nothing special and I could have bought the marinated eel fillet elsewhere.
Overall, this place had unjustified prices - probably because of the rent and because they can. The view was nice but not awesome - we were facing way behind the peninsula which was quite far from the harbour. If only the dishes had been more unique or slightly more generous in serving sizes I would've thought it was worthy, but sadly this isn't the case... And since the dishes can be found in any Japanese establishment nearby, I cannot recommend any of the five dishes we ordered.
