Cafe Roma    

After the previous nights celebrations, the four of us wanted to blow the cobwebs away and be outside and having visited before, decide to opt for the ferry ride over to Cafe Roma.
Was unsure as to what sort of welcome we would get the day after the previous nights big bash, but even though the Cafe Roma team had been working until 5am, they were still going strong and made sure we had a wonderful dinner.
The location and setting are such a surprise for this delightful eatery and what was supposed to be an early dinner turned into a four hour, kick back and relax, dineathon!!
At the owners suggestion we started with a leisurely glass of wine and anti pasti platter, that was packed with parma ham, salami, smoked salmon, prawn fritters, two Italian cheeses, olives and grilled vegetables. I understand the items change depending on seasonality and availability. After quite a break we ordered two dishes from the a la carte menu and two from the specials board and were disappointed by none. The vongole and penne gorgonzola are staples that we often share, along with other dishes, if there is a group of us. The oxtail risotto with chanterelles was rich and unctuous and the baramundi with potato cake and lemon sauce left the recipient licking his lips. Although we did ourselves proud, desert was definitely a no no, until we were shown the creme brulee. Not wanting to spoil what we'd already eaten we gamely shared dessert of silky smooth creme with that wonderful crunchy topping.
A final observation on the other eateries along that stretch-you may go to those because you need to eat, but at Cafe Roma you go because you choose to dine!
