I was longing to try out Bubble Factory's Bittermelon Jam so much that I finally visited the joint again for breakfast over free in-store Wi-Fi.
I had my wake-up call with an Espresso ($23). You can see the thick layer of velvety crema on top right? I agree with some of the fellow reviewers that this espresso was a bit on the acidic side, fortunately that the coffee was not that weak.
Toast w/ Bittermelon Jam ($22, add $18 for combo with coffee) was the highlight of the day. The jam was bursting out from the warm crispy toast, this was a bit messy but absolutely delightful. The bittermelon jam contained little bits of the gourd within the yellow mango jam base; the sweetness of the mango jam made the whole thing much more palatable while retaining the "coolness" of the bittermelon, but the bitterness is no longer intense. Well, this reminded me of a common Chinese saying of 憶苦思甜 while having this toast! I do hope that the joint would consider retailing its jams which I think would become quite a hit!
I didn't try out the chocolates last time round, and this time I went for a Green Tea chocolate ($13). It was beautifully glazed but I found the green tea flavoured filling rather artificial looking. However the Crispy Orange Peel Chocolate ($13) I had on a subsequent visit proved that chocolate and orange are always a best match and went well with my Americano. What's more, I liked that crunchy texture of the orange peel very much!
Keep up the good work!
P.S. Bubble Factory is now taking orders for Christmas cakes. Looks like their cakes are quite attractive too.
