While the concept may be a bit off-putting to some (Italian, American/Western, Indian food - all on one menu!) this restaurant juggles the different cuisine styles well. While Dimpal is no 5* dining joint (and it is not pretending to be!), it does happen to be a solidly respectable, comfortable and welcoming neighbourhood restaurant that offers delicious food at very reasonable prices. The lack of the 10% service charge is a good sign - but the good service and food would make you want to volunt
While the pompadoms (free appetizer) could be improved on - the ones we were given were not fresh - all the food that we did order was up to standard and very good value for the money.
I would recommend the garlic mushroom pizza, as it uses very fresh ingredients (fresh garlic, mushroom, tomatoes), and also the masala okra was seasoned much better than the masala okra in some Indian places in Chungking Mansions! I have heard from friends that the other pizzas are equally recommended but have not tried them yet myself.
We got the wholewheat tandoori roti rather than naan bread. The roti was a bit heavy, but acceptable. I think the naan would have been a better choice.
Overall, a very good choice if you are in the area and want a comfortable, friendly restaurant with comfort food. I definitely will be back!
