Contrary to popular belief, it is difficult to find delicious Filipino food in Hong Kong. There are a lot of Filipino restaurants and eateries in Wan Chai and Central, but nothing stands out. No restaurant has ever fed me something good enough to make me want to keep coming back. Until I tried Foodtrip in Jordan.

Located just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Temple Street, this little hole in the wall is a gem that serves authentically good Filipino fare.

For starters, we had Lumpiang Shanghai (spring rolls) and Chicharon Bulaklak (crispy pork intestines). I loved them both. The lumpia wrapper was crispy, thin and not so oily, which allowed me to better taste the marinated minced pork inside. And I enjoyed the loud, crackling noises I make every time I pop a chicharon into my mouth. I felt like Cookie Monster gobbling cookies. Nomnomnomnom.

Then on to the mains. I do not eat Dinuguan (pork blood stew) because they usually have a slimy, metallic scent that I do not like, but my friends who tried the Dinuguan at Foodtrip said that it was delicious and did not have that weird after-taste usually associated with Dinuguan.
I loved the Beef Kaldereta! The meat was tender and the sauce, just absolutely perfect. It's so good, I can't even begin to describe it!
The pork sisig fell a little bit below par though.
The garlic rice was perfect and went very, very well with everything else.
For dessert, the lady serving us, Joyce, recommended Mango Pandan. It was heavenly! If I hadn't stuffed myself with so much food earlier, I would've gone for mango pandan seconds. Creamy and sweet, with just the right amount of sour from the mango, it was the perfect way to cap off a perfect dinner.
If you're the drinking type, order a bottle of Red Horse Beer or Tanduay Ice to go with dinner. If you're the heavy-drinker type, order a shot of Lambanog. Be warned though. Lambanog is not for the faint of heart (and/or liver). Some Lambanog can go as high as 166 proof (distilled further and it can be used as Biofuel).

Lumpiang Shanghai (Filipino Spring Rolls filled with Pork) bowlbowlbowlbowlbowl
black gulaman (sweet grass jelly drink) bowlbowlbowl
Pancit Bihon Guisado (Rice Sticks Noodles with Vegetables) bowlbowlbowlbowl
GOOD!!lol
Sinigang na Baboy (Pork in Sour Broth) bowlbowlbowlbowl
Yummy mad
Beef Kaldereta (Filipino beef stew) bowlbowlbowlbowlbowlbowl

Tigger and Pooh (243 Review(s))

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Foodtrip as we were roaming around the side streets off of Temple Street's main drag. I haven't had Filipino food in HK at that point so we decided to try Foodtrip. Our server, Joyce, was very friendly. We ordered the chicken adobo and the beef with potatoes. The beef was very tender and flavorful. I enjoyed the beef dish over the chicken adobo which I found too sour for my taste. Joyce also recommended a few of their seafood dishes but we didn't try since my boyfriend doesn't eat seafood. I've also been back a second time to try their Filipino seafood congee which I agree tastes better than a lot of the Cantonese congee places around HK. The place is small and gets packed at night so if you have a big group, you should call them beforehand. They can set up more tables and chairs for your group. I believe they're only open at night but they stay open pretty late.
