Poolside Dining @ The GrillJust OK

NATNUT (14 Review(s))

I've always been fond of The Grill for many reasons. You can come here anytime of the day for a meal and have the benefits of decent food and a decadent setting, diners get to soak in the beautiful skyline and serenity of the pool.
We came here for lunch on the 1st of January, a brilliant way to start the year.
Service was attentive and friendly. It wasn’t too crowded either.
Food is served in the form of a buffet, we were the first to dig in and I made sure I fully abused that privilege!
There was a selection of cold seafood platters, hot sides, desserts and a generous selection of grilled meat and seafood- it is called The Grill after all lol

The recent weather has been quite chilly but fear not! Virtually every table is within close vicinity of a heater smile
I'm very picky with my seafood, sad to say that the seafood didn't quite meet my standards.

The prawns however, were the best out of the selection
The grilled meat was pretty good, I wouldn't say top notch as some were a bit too tough or dry, but collectively not bad and much better than other options out on the market. What's worth noting was the roast section right next to the grill. The beef was juicy and tender, if I had known better I'd have started off with the roast and ended on it as well!
On the side note, it would be a waste not to head down to the bar for a drink before or after dinner! Diners pass through the bar on their way to The Grill.

Didn't let Grand Hyatt downSmile

My boss suddenly propose a buffet party because one of our staff is leaving...gosh a Grand Hyatt dinner buffet! This is a dream come true!

And it didn't disappoint us, the atmosphere is great, pool side buffet is always can create a luxury atmosphere. The selection of meat and mustard also caught my attentions, despite it's real expensive (doesn't matter as my boss paid for everyonemad, in the the bill comes to something like $10000shocked) it's a good buffet overall.

The fact the the huge variety of food to choose from makes it impossible for anyone to feel unsatisfying. I particular like the roast meat and the huge variety of mustard makes a already juicy roast beef even better!

Also I like the smoked salmon and prawns, it's fresh and in excellent quality!

It didn't let Grand Hyatt's reputation down, as a 5*hotel

Overpriced, uninspiring and unenjoyableCries

One of my good friends planned to have his birthday celebrations at The Grill in the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Wan Chai. Two tables were booked for roughly 20 people to enjoy their buffet brunch and their a la carte items.

Upon entering the poolside, we were met with loads of people and screaming children. Understandably, it is a hotel and there are people on holiday enjoying the sunny weather; however, it was hard to have a conversation with other party goers, let alone be able to move easily in the general area without being mowed over by kids.

The brunch cost $398 a head which I thought was quite steep considering the spread of food they had. For that price, I could've easily stuffed my face elsewhere i.e. The Shangri-La Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui for far less and had change left over. I was not impressed with what was on offer. The usual salad bar and roast option were available, as well as breakfast options such as eggs benedict and two choices of smoothies. The dessert table had approximately five desserts to choose from as well as a few varieties of ice cream.

While items such as the eggs benedict were appealing, those of us who did have the buffet were disappointed to find that the hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict had congealed before they walked back to their table and were stone cold before they could even taste it. mad

After walking away from the buffet table, and feeling unimpressed, I had a look at what The Grill had to offer in their a la carte menu as I felt the buffet was overpriced for what food it had to offer. Once again, I was uninspired to find anything leap off the page and catch my eye. In fact, I thought the a la carte selection was lacking as there were only a handful of items to choose from. In the end, I ordered the grilled panini with parma ham, plum tomatoes and mozzarella. For quite a simple order, the staff took ages to serve it to me. Granted, it was a busy day by the pool and there were lots of customers but it was incredibly annoying to have to wait around 20 minutes for a sandwich. What added to my annoyance was that once my food did arrive, the bottom panini was soggy and the top one was hard - probably from having sat on the kitchen bench waiting for someone to serve to me. They also had trouble making sure everyone at the table had enough water in their glasses and at times, we seemed to be forgotten about. On top of the poor quality of food, the price for a soggy, bland and cold panini was laughable. Including service charge, I paid $203. Totally not worth it. huffy

I doubt I'll ever be going back to The Grill again, unless they improve their selection of food for their brunch buffet or get their a la carte act together. They also need to either employ more staff or train their staff better, as I felt, especially for a hotel, it simply wasn't good enough and of an acceptable standard. DEFINITELY not a place for people who are looking for value for money. The only redeeming feature of the morning/afternoon was the pleasant weather.

Early Birthday Celebration~Smile

We saw this TV show the other day introducing this restaurant buffetshocked so my parent wants to try plus it’s my birthday soon, so we decided to have an early celebration.

The restaurant it’s at a nice outdoor areasmile, it’s a really good place to be during summer or nice sunny days, I love the surrounding area especially their small water fall with the swimming pool and there is a message area for the hotel guests felt like I’m in Thailand.

There are not many choices for the buffet, but all the foods are nicely prepared like the five star restaurants.

The Grill is prepared into 4 different sections; the first section being the cold seafood smilethere are snail, king prawn, some kind of prawn and French mussels, the second section is the salad bar there are many different variety of greens, dressing and meats to go with the greens, third section being the BBQ area, there are my favorite fishes (there are three kind of fish but I don’t know the name of it), beef steak, King prawn, octopus, veggies, different kinds of mushroom, Spanish fried rice and etc. Finally the dessert section there is two kind of smoothies milktongue and banana (it taste really good), Haagen-Dazs ice cream (individually packed), I think there are 5 kinds of different cakes being ginger cheese cake, peach chocolate cake, cherry pie and can’t remember the other two, fresh fruits.

The buffet costs HK$390 per person with unlimited red and white wine and sparking wine and if you don’t drink alcohol it’s HK$320 per person.

It rain just after we finish dessert so it was lucky, the waiters bring towels and umbrellas to the tables.

The services are great; waiters are all with lovely smiles, dirty plates are clear quickly, drink orders are efficient and the foods are all nice and fresh.

Overall, the standard is ok. The barbecue food like the lamp chops, steak, fish, sausages are fine. Salad bar and fruit are also acceptable. However, the waiters serve too frequently, asking if u have finished the dishes from time to time, even u have not finished the dishes obviously. It is quite annoying indeed. Also, each customer should better have more than one non-alcoholic drink.
