Bangkok Thai Restaurant in Wan ChaiSmile

Bangkok Thai Restaurant (Wan Chai)
supersupergirl (2596 Review(s))

There are lots of Bangkok Thai Restaurants in Hong Kong and now one more has opened in Wan Chai.
It can get quite busy at lunch times so be sure to queue early.

Thanks to Bangkok Thai Restaurant and Mjqueen7e for inviting me to this tasting Dinner.

I was quite surprised that they employ Thai staff too.

Here was what we tried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried lychee prawn
This is a new item and not on the menu yet, the appearance looks like fried prawns, but inside there is a sweet juicy plump lychee.
I loved this because lychee and prawn tasted so good together and it was light and refreshing.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Satay skewers
There were chicken, pork and beef accompanied with delicious satay sauce that was slightly spicy.
The chicken was lovely and tender and the beef was grilled nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tom Yum Kung soup
The taste of the Tom Yum Kung soup was really nice, there was a nice balance of spices and a hint of tomato.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai grapefruit salad
For the grapefruit salad, they use green skin grapefruits because it has a crisp texture and is not stringy.
The grapefruit was crisp and sweet which paired nicely with the prawns and mini dried shrimps.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Charcoal grilled chicken Pattaya style
The chicken was grilled nicely with delicious crispy skin.
Some people said it was dry but I had the thigh part which was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried crab in basil sauce
When it came it looked like a crab freshly fished from the ocean covered in algae which was actually fried basil leaves.
There was generous basil sauce too which I used to dip the garlic bread.
The crab was really really nice with the basil sauce so I hope to come back again some other time and order one just for myself.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yellow beef curry
The yellow beef curry was sweet and not spicy accompanied with delicious crispy garlic bread.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Baked rice with taro
The rice was nice and filling with lots of taro cubes in it and sliced mushrooms.
It was very fragrant and satisfying.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sticky Rice with Mango and Coconut Milk
There was glutinous rice and purple glutinous rice in this dessert and it had a lovely light coconut scent.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai Desserts Platter
The dessert patter was great because the sweetness for all the items were just right, and it had cassava roots which is rare in Hong Kong, it tastes similar to potato but slightly sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Guava soda
A lot of the drinks were tempting such jackfruit milkshake and young coconut but the guava soda was different so I ordered that.
It was refreshing and fizzy with guava pieces at the bottom.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The restaurant is nice and spacious, suitable for large and small groups.

The Vietnam Woods (Wan Chai)
GW98 (70 Review(s))

Date of visit : 31 May 2013 (Fri) 2 pm
No. of diners : 2
Average cost per head : $100
Food quality : 8/10 Environment : 8/10
Service : 7.5/10
Value-for-money : 8/10
Overall rating : 8/10

If not with a small inscription of 老趙 (Lo Chiu) on the signboard, it’s difficult to relate the classical Lo Chiu Vietnamese Restaurant in Jordan with this upscale eatery in Wanchai. With high ceiling, modern and minimalism design, and stylish dining ware, the dishes are more sophisticated than nearby or its mother Vietnamese restaurants.

The Vietnam Woods offers a mix and match lunch sets at reasonable price of less than $100 each. For those working around or even in Admiralty, this will be an option when you are looking for something more decent than a fast food meal.

a) Deep-Fried Marinated Chicken Wings香茅雞翼 – 7.8/10
Unlike the deep fried butter chicken wings, this version was with no batter and marinated with lemon grass and soy sauce. Without the protection of batter, these wings were less juicy.

b) Deep-Fried Spring Roll 越南春卷 – 8/10
Classic spring roll in Vietnamese style with shreds of carrot, minced port and rice vermicelli, good with a dip of the vinegar and fish sauce.

c) Stewed Beef Brisket in Tomato Sauce w/Rice 茄汁牛腩飯 – 8.5/10
The dice of beef brisket was quite tender in general. The tomato sauce was not very thick but was rich in flavour and of the right sourness. A very well prepared dish.

d) Grilled Pork Chop w/Cold Vermicelli 香茅豬扒檬 – 7.5/10
This cold vermicelli served with dried shallots, carrots and fish sauce was supposed to be appetizing in summer, however, the pork loin was a bit dried.

e) Coke w/Lime, Soda Water w/Pickled Lemon – 8/10
Iced drinks were with no extra costs. You can also choose Vietnamese iced cendol (the trio colours jello) or hot lemon grass tea.

Supplementary Information:
Q : When will I go again?
A : The food is good on average. Even the a la carte menu is at reasonable price. So a group from 2 to some 8 can opt for this restaurant.

Q: What will I next order?
A : Will definitely encore the beef brisket but maybe in curry sauce.

Tsui Yuen Dessert (North Point)
Architart (15 Review(s))

There are few things more satisfying than finishing a busy day with a sweet reward.  While this shop is small and humble looking, it is also clean and very efficient.  The staff are very friendly and take your order by memory rather than writing anything down.  They don't speak English but all the menus are in English as well as Chinese so please don't let the lack of spoken language deter you or you will miss out on tasting some wonderful local desserts.

The two of us ordered a dessert each.  We could have shared a dessert because they are quite filling, especially after eating dinner, but we were greedy and didn't want to share.
$16: The Tang Yuan – Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Ball (黑芝麻湯圓) was perfect.  It was a chewy and soft exterior with a warm and sweet sesame center.  The lightly sweetened ginger soup provided a nice bablance to the heaviness of the sesame and glutinous ball. smile
$17: The Double Boiled Milk Custard with Ginger (姜汁炖奶) was very, very rich and filling!  I loved it and wanted to eat all of it but it was too much for me. I have had this at other shops and this is one of the richest versions.  It may be too heavy for some tastes but I like my desserts to be of substance.  You can also get this cold but the shop lady recommended that I have it warm.

Overall, it was a very satisfying and inexpensive visit which made my whole day seem happy.  I will definitely be revisiting this shop often.

AllDayEat (1 Review(s))

madI found out this Shop when I walked across with friends after dinner. We want to have some deserts before coming back home. We smell the flowers scent mixed with fresh cakes smell during the time, We wondered where it was coming from and found a Garden-likes cake shop. It was their grand opening day and so many flowers baskets surrounded the cake shop. smilesmile

We step closer to this shop and saw there were cakes for trial, the shopman said they had a cakes trial night for invited guests only... So we wanted to leave and maybe bought a piece of cake to try. >_< But the shopman offered us to try some even we are not invited, nice and polited to us lol

I tried a small Tiraminsu cake, the cheese was soft and melted in my mouth and taste as usual it should be. But the cake size was just all right and I could control myself by not eating too much.
The milk cake was soft and not too sweet , I could not stand for not keeping eating. My friends complained on me as we shared every pieces of cake together but i ate most. tongue  Chocolate golden pyramid cake, it was a surprise for me since a special tasteful ingredient inside my mouth. Highly recommeded this cake since I could not have this experience from the other cake shop. lol

Supplementary Information:
Will try to order a special cake to my friend's birthday from this cake shop next time, as they offer delivery service too. The bear cake seems smiled with me when I looked at him.

Mansons Lot (Wan Chai)
gasleaking (2 Review(s))

Firstly, I spent half an hour writing my comments in Chinese and this brilliant App just quit on me. So, I will make it short this time

I came by at a weekday noon time, it's a very quiet time and the lady was very nice and caring.

I have order a hot latte and a ham n cheese croissant. The latte it's nice, not too strong and not too milky, very decent temp, at least didn't burn the milk like Passion from one block away.
But I think $40 for one coffee it's a bit over price, especially since coco expresso has opened few blocks away.
The ham and cheese croissant are quite standard, I quite like the cheese, but it would be a lot better if it toasted longer, let the cheese melt more.

Overall it's quite nice, but just bit over price.
