We came here for dinner at the end of june. there were 6 of us and one of us had been here a few times and recommended this place. we ordered a lot of food : 牛仔骨, 燒排骨, roast pigeon, pig knuckle, curry beef brisket, fish, stir fried clam in black bean sauce, giant clam, 2 types of veggie, baked prawn, stir fried pork chop w/ onion, garlic bread & rolls. the bill came to $1,1xx !!! we couldn't believe how cheap it was (considering we ordered so much). however, the taste was only so-so. but i guess for this price, it was a bargain. also, the owner & his brother were very hospitable - then went around chatting w/ the guest. his brother even brought out his guitar & started to sing. all in all, the environment was very good - very relaxing & fun. the owner walked around w/ a keg of Port wine and treated the guests to a glass. if the food was better, i would definitely go back. i don't think i would go back to this place but i think it's ok to try at least once. p.s. if going during the summer, u can reserve a table inside - there's a/c; otherwise, it's all outdoor seating and can be quite hot. also, the garlic bread is very good!! must have. 我地覺得味千拉都仲好食!!! we had lunch here on thurs. the place became full shortly after we got our table. then a line started to form. i thought, "this place must be really good". i was wrong. there are lots of choices, mostly singapore/malaysian/south east asian dishes, some local dishes. there were 4 of us and we each ordered a lunch set : 1 hainanese chicken rice, 1 vietnamese soup noodle, 1 laksa noodle, 1 thai soup noodle & 1 XO sauce fried turnip cake. my hainanese chicken was so-so, the rice was hard & cold, the chicken was ok but they gave me the wrong sauce for my chicken - there is suppose to be a red chili sauce but they gave me the sweet/sour chili sauce (for fried shrimp cake); my friend's noodle was very bland (there wasn't much flavour in the soup); the laska was ok; there was no XO sauce in the XO sauce fried turnip cake!!!it was just fried w/ egg, bean sprout and some shrimp - again, it was kind of bland. worst of all, the staff - there were 2 older women who were seating the customers, as soon as you walked in, they screamed "how many?" "this way". when we were placing our orders, the waitress was so impatient when we asked her questions; she ran off before we even finished our order. after we paid the bill, i left $3 tip (which i thought was MORE than what they deserved) and the waitress almost rolled her eyes!!!! next time, i'll eat Thai Orchids next door!! had lunch here today (4th time). the 4 of us ordered 4 set lunches - 2 pizza : ham & cheese, chicken pineapple - both were good; 2 pasta : clam linguine & shrimp angel hair in tomato sauce - the linguine was a little hard & the clam was kinda fishy; shrimp angel hair was good). last time i was here was before chinese new year. if you ordered the lunch set, you can choose either coffee/tea or cheesecake of the day - we normally get the cheesecake. but now they've changed it - if you want cheesecake of the day, you have to add $15 !!!! we were a bit disappointed about this. today's cake was Tiramisu and we ordered 2. it wasn't that good, the cheese part was too rubbery (too much gelatin??). we previously had the New York cheesecake, chestnut cheesecake and mandarin cheesecake - all good, esp. NY. despite this extra $15 charge, i will still eat here, their food is quite good and the portions are generous.
