Good Burger Smile Feb 28, 2010

I learnt of this place from HSBC dining offers last week. We decided to try it tonight so I went to print out the coupon (less $50 for purchase of $200 or more)...only to find that HSBC had removed it (last day is 28/02/10) mad We still went.

I told the cashier that I didn't have the HSBC coupon and she said she would still offer me the discount !! (clap hands !!!). I ordered the Portobello cheese burger; Hubby ordered the mushroom burger + cheese + fried egg (!); cheese fries & coke ($25!!!!!!). Total after the discount : $161

My burger was absolutely delicious !! The Portobello was grilled just right; my beef patty was juicy & not overcooked. Hubby said his burger was good too (I didn't try as I was too busy working on my own!!). The cheese fries were good but the cheese hardened as it cooled and most of it stuck to the bottom of the carton container. Howerver, we still managed to scrape it off & eat it !!

Everything we ordered was good and would definitely go back.

(Next time we will try the fish & chips as the table next to us order another one after they finished their first round)

My husband tried their location in 西環 and said the 排骨was very good. So today I went to the location at North Point. I had the 雪菜排骨米 + iced coffee. When the noodles came, I quickly ate a piece of the spare ribs to see what all the commotion was about - it was VERY good !!!! Even though the 排骨 wasn't too thick, it was still juicy and not dried at all (cos it's deep fried) - I immediately fell in love w/ it tongue (but I did think there was too much 雪菜, next time I will get the 菜膽排骨). Their iced coffee was good too, strong coffee aroma. I got there around 1pm and it wasn't full but still plenty of people.

Will defintely be going back !!

P.S. The 姐姐 (waitress) was actually polite !! (unusual for a 茶餐廳!!)

I passed by this place and saw the crowd. Naturally, I HAD to pop in to see what the fuss was about. Saw my favourite things : spicy soup base & noodles. I ordered mine w/ little oysters, crab meat & clam; everything was good except the clam (too hard & chewy). I love the spiciness of the soup but found it to be a bit sweet (but acceptable).

I'm glad it's not within walking distance from my home otherwise I'd probably eat it everyday !!!

Surprisingly Good !! Smile Mar 09, 2009

We had to book well over 2 weeks in advance for this place. Normally we go to Cafe Too next door but lately, quality has gone down, so we decide to try Marriott Cafe.

When we walked it, we were kind of surprised to see such a small area of food, thus thinking, so few choices.

I start off, as usual, w/ soup : the chinese soup was some sort of herbs and western soup for mexican corn soup. I got the chinese soup : it was good, you can really taste all the ingredients used to make it, ie, not just meat & water taste.

Then it was off to the seafood section : got some salmon sashimi, lobster and peeled shrimp - it was all good. I don't want to list ALL the stuff I ate but I pretty much stayed in the seafood area. The oysters were a bit small but fresh enough.

The dessert was very good, esp. the blueberry cheesecake !! The apple pie crumble is also worth a mention. Only had a few hot dishes; the hainan chicken was very good although the accompanying rice was on so-so.

We were overall quite impressed w/ the quality of the seafood (fresh & tasty); the soup was able to maintain its taste (soup at other places tend to get watered down as the evening progresses), food is still being replenished towards the end of the evening (found a whole new apple crumbler at 9:30pm !!!).

However, one thing we didn't like was the seating area - it's quite small and the tables are therefore, close togther.

We will definitely go back. RIght now, there's 25% off w/ HSBC platinum visa so even better !!

We were going to go to 清真牛肉but when we sat down, they told us they sold out of curry beef & chicken. We then decided to try this restaurant. (We knew beforehand that it was opened by a previous employee). Also, the service at 清真was terrible (always has been so it actually felt good to leave & go somewhere else!!).

There were only 5-6 customers here; we got a whole table to ourselves. We looked at the menu of 北京清真 and found there were a wide variety of dishes. We ordered 牛餅, 小籠包, 咖哩牛腩飯, 咖哩雞粉絲湯. Everything tasted as good as 清真. The 小籠包 was surprisingly good!!! Overall, i think the food is very good and service is ok. I would now chose 北京清真 over 清真.

P.S. The curry beef comes in a very small bowl (rice on the side), normally not enough for the big dish of rice. We asked for a little more 咖哩汁 and the chef happily obliged - we got half bowl of curry and 2 more pieces of beef !! We would have been happy w/ just the sauce but were pleasantly surprised. (This would have never happened at 清真!!). 咁已經加分tongue
