Good Mexican Food in SoHo Just OK Jun 24, 2012

Went there with the kids and enjoyed a good Mexican meal. The portions were good sized and the food was tasty. We had the Chili-Nachos as an appetizers [the pico de gallo has some kick to it]. Serving size was good. I ordered the Big Burrito with smoked pulled pork. I have to say I was expecting pulled pork with a hint of Tex-Mex flare [maybe some cumin or chili powder], but it was good old fashion pulled pork like I get in Atlanta. Now don't get me wrong...I love pulled pork but not so much in a burrito. Next time I will order it with chicken.
My son ordered the Chimichangas [with beef]. This dish was very good and beef was plentiful. My daughter had the soft tacos with chicken and she was less impressed with the flavor of the chicken...lacking some zest...maybe a touch of lime to the seasoning.
As any restaurant in Soho...it is a bit more expensive but that’s Soho. I would go again just because the number of Mexican placed in Hong Kong is limited.

Wonderful Turkish Smile Jun 24, 2012

I have eaten at Istanbul Express twice so far and both times the food has been fantastic! I started off with the classic Turkish salad; which consists of a generous portion of tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, lettuce, and blue cabbage topped with a wonderful oil and vinegar dressing and fresh feta cheese. As our entries we ordered the chicken donor plate and the Istanbul Beef Donor plate. The Istanbul Beef Plate is piled on a wonderful mixture yogurt and cubes of beard then the entire dish so covered in a delicious tomato based sauce which complements the mixture of the beef and yogurt.
The restaurant is sizable for Wan Chai and the service is friendly and inviting. Several of the servers have very good English speaking skills and go out of their way to make you feel welcome to their restaurant. I plan keep returning here whenever I have a craving for Turkish Cuisine!

SML..."OK" Just OK Jun 24, 2012

I took the kids here for lunch during the week…it was a later lunch [about 1:00pm] and we had no problem getting a table. The restaurant is set up more European Beer Hall style in which sharing a table is often a common practice. But for most Americans this can be somewhat unusual. As we sat down we saw a promotional display on the table for milkshakes. My son was excited when I agreed that we would all get milkshakes with lunch. Well…the waitress informed us that they only had Strawberry and Mango flavored ice cream; no chocolate or vanilla. Seemed odd…but what can you do[my son was quite disappointed though].

Getting past the milkshake debacle…we ordered our entries. I ordered the classic lasagna al forno [medium]. It was good…not great…but good. The portion [medium] was just about right for me. My daughter ordered the spaghetti carbonara which she thought was very good! My son fell back to his old reliable selection…the burger. The size and flavor was impressive [considering it was advertised as a British Burger…. not really sure what make a burger “British”.

I do like the concept of being able to select either small, medium, or large for you portion but I do miss the extras should as fries or other included sides. Anything like that would be a side at SML.

Would I go back to SML…probably not? Would I recommend it to anyone…maybe, but I think there are better places in Time Square.
