Le Soleil is our go-to restuarant when we need a thai-vietnamese fix. They have a wide selection on their menu covering signature dishes from spring rolls and curry, to soup and noodles, to desserts! Service is awesome and the food quality is consistent and of high standards. My personal favourite dish has to be the curry fried beef brisket, a dish that you won't find in a lot of places. The deep-fried beef brisket is tender and soft with an ultra-thin batter offering just the right texture and crispiness, served with a perfectly seasoned yellow curry on the side. We have not had a bad dish at Le Soleil, definitely a guaranteed good dining experience every time! It may not be located in the most convenient area (TST East isn't exactly easy to get to if you don't drive...) but its high standards and good service makes it all worth the trip! Another hidden treasure we came upon with as we explore the neighborhood around our new apartment in Wan Chai near the Convention Center! Suzuike is located in the mall in a quiet corner with a sleek and subtle entrance. I have a growing fondness for quiet and subtle restaurant nowadays as it seems that these restaurants tend to put more focus on what's important - the FOOD! obviously and often also the experience for the customer. Well I must admit that I sometimes enjoy the glitz and glam of a fancy upscale and sometimes slightly pretentious restaurant but then a casual dining experience is often more enjoyable especially when you just want to enjoy a good meal without having to worry about using the right fork for the dish! Anyways, so back to Suzuike.... we went for lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was rather empty, there were only us and 1 other table. There's also a private room with a nice view of the outside streets layered with greens from the trees right outside (restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of the mall so it's not high up!) The decor is nothing to write home about but it is simple, chic and sleek. They offer various lunch set featuring Sashimi set, Sushi set, Wagyu Beef Terriyaki, Beef Udon set, etc. Slightly on the expensive side (Sashimi set was around $250, and Beef was 150+) but it is justified by its high quality and reasonable portion. I ordered the Sashimi set and there's not one piece on my plate that doesn't leave me wanting more! Everything was super fresh and tasty! My hubby ordered the Wagyu beef terriyaki and requested for it to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection! Beef was flavoursome and tender with a perfectly pink/red center! Friends who have been to Suzuike have all highly recommended the Truffle Somen but we were not hungry enough to order on top of our lunch set, so we will just have to go back to another visit and we are looking forward to the experience! The staff were friendly and attentive without being annoying (nothing worse than that!). They also seem very knowledgeable on their menu, kindly offer recommendation on the day's special - oysters flown in from Japan, and fresh Uni, etc. All in all, a very nice dining experience and as mentioned, we will be visiting again! Fridge is one of those hidden gems in the Hong Kong's restaurant landscape, a small little space tucked away on Peel Street, Central that may be a little difficult to find if it's your first visit. I have been introduced to Fridge by a friend and has fallen in love with it since my first visit. The restaurant is quite small (if you book out the whole restaurant, it could seat up to around 12 people), because seats are so limited, it's better that you call and make a reservations before going in case they have a private party (which is quite often the case!). They also have a small patio with 1 table which I think the best table for a small party of 4-5 people if the weather is good, super chill and relax! There's no fancy decorations or interior designs apart from a wall to wall shelves lined with wine/champagne...but once you're seated you'll see that the owner's focus is obviously not on making an impression with the glitz and glam but with its fantastic food and service. So whatever it lacks in fancy designs is more than made up by its down-to-earth and home-y atmosphere as well as its friendly and attentive staff! Fridge specialized in oysters (on half shells served fresh) and they offers a great selection of oysters throughout the year based on whatever is in season - Gillardeaus, Pinky, Irish Rock, Fine De Claire, Belon...... and they are ALWAYS fresh and tasty! Oyster lovers would agree that such consistency in quality is probably the most important for any oyster restaurants! There is of course a good selection of white wine, and while I'm no wine expert, I tend to get recommendations from their staff who is always helpful with picking a wine of our choice. Apart from oysters, they also offer a small menu consisting of 1-2 options of appetizers, soup, pasta, meat dish, and dessert and they are also impressively delicious! Their steak and lamb chop is nicely done but it is the Pasta Alioli that has become an all-time favourite! Perfectly seasoned with a perfect kick, it is a must-try! Portion is quite generous as well so if you've had a few oysters to start, you may choose to share the pasta with a friend so you can leave room for desserts! It is extremely rare that any restaurant could hit the right notes from starters to desserts and Fridge has a kitchen that seems to know how to do it all! As you can tell, i only have great things to say about this restaurant as it has certainly become a personal favourite. My only complaint would be that it can sometimes be difficult to get a booking as there are only limited tables....but I guess its small intimate setting is one of Fridge's biggest charm! I've heard only great reviews about Insen so I was very much looking forward to my experience and it didn't disappoint!! It has to be the best Yakitori in Hong Kong!! I was impressed from the second I spotted the entrance of the restaurant! Tucked in a small street of Tai Hang, it is highlighted by a cute little red lantern and a miniture japanese-garden-like entrance! Waiters greeted us at the door and politely asked us to remove our shoes before stepping in (Yea, make sure you wear good socks!) The restaurant is small (probably around 20 seats) but it's got a very nice and cozy ambience. We sat at the bar and ordered a wide selection from the menu: chicken wings, chicken skins, asparagus wrapped with bacon, oysters, scallops, chicken gizzards, beef, mince chicken, sweet corn....etc, and they are ALL beyond delicious and you can taste the passion for food in each skewers. we can also see the chef skillfully prepare each and every order behind the glass kitchen by the bar! Definitely a place that I plan to become a regular of! Make sure you make a reservation in advance as this place gets packed even on week nights and you can pretty much forget about walking-in on weekends as it is usually booked up weeks in advance! Wanted to check out Chez Patrick Deli after reading about it in magazine and I must say while sometimes photos you see of restaurants in magazine feature can be deceiving (ie making it look bigger and much nicer than real life), Chez Patrick Deli looks and feels just as the picture suggested. The decor is simple and sleek with just the right touch that allow it to be a casual laid back deli perfect for a quick bite an a coffee with friends as well as a cute little restaurant where you can bring a date. The menu though not to extensive offers many attractive options from quiche lorraine and salads to grilled salmon and steak. They also offer daily specials which features a special appetizer, 2 different options for Main, as well as different desserts. My friend had the grilled salmon from the daily specialy and I opted for the Foie Gras Terraine (chef's recommendation and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! 2 thumbs up!) and the Steak Tartare. There are 2 types of different Foie Gras Terraine - one layered with fresh figs, and the other is a smoked foie gras terraine, both just as enticing as the other, and the best part is that you can have a mix of both on your plate! I personally prefer the one with figs but the smoked one is also very tasty though slightly on the salty side. The steak tartare is also fantastic with a perfect kick in the mix. While it is all in all a satisfying experience, Chez Patrick Deli is a bit expensive. The bill for the 2 of us came out to HK$600+ (I also ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc @ Around HK$80). I wonder if they offer a different (and probably more economical lunch menu... Guess I'll be going back again then! Recommended Dish(es):
