Restaurants with high reputations usually make them more difficult to have another consistent positive comments or breakthrough on over all food/service quality. However, I found this place not only price reasonable, but we find also the food quality scored B+ into their report card.

Worth to mention
*******************
四寶丸: good
牛肉: We order the fresh-type (not frozen) with large size
羊肉: Not so good... according to my friends
推介菜式:番茄蟹湯 is recommended
Boiled Crispy fish-skin (Green onions with sesame oil topped with some roasted peanuts )
Deep Fried fish-skin: NOOOOOOOOO GOOD
Sea eel: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Frog: FRESH !!

Their service scored A+ to my standard for a traditional well known hotpot place!!

NEVER go back !! Cries Nov 23, 2009

Categories : Taiwan | Chinese Restaurant | Noodles/Rice Noodles

It was a Sunday evening approx. 7:30pm without making any dinner reservation, waited 10mins only (surprisingly fast, although some other people were waiting). Being a Taiwanese food lover, I have to say that I do have expectation when I decided to wait for the table cuz I haven't tried any quality TW food for months (since my last business trip to TW). Let's make my review simple... we ordered...

Things MUST NOT TRY !!!!!!!!
********************************
魯肉飯 ==> doesn't taste like 魯肉飯 at all if you taste it with your eyes closed.
鹽酥雞排 ==> Tasteless and the temperature was only warm
鐵板和風牛肉定食 ==> Beef jerky (Way over cooked cuz they serve a piece of well cooked stead on a iron-sizzling-plate !!)

This place is very cozy meaning crowded. If you have some secret to share with your partner, please go finding somewhere else instead... otherwise, you secret will be listened by customer A, B and C !!

Based on what I ordered last time
-----------------------------------------------
味道: Not authentic at all, but if you are not familiar with Taiwanese food, I think this would be acceptable

環境:Cozy = CROWDED !!
服務:SLOW, but quick when you ask for the bill !!
衛生:Acceptable !!
抵食: No comment !!

MUST TRY !! Smile Oct 23, 2009

Categories : Western | Coffee & Tea Shop | Casual Drink

Being an experienced coffee drinker, I became more particular or picky, and most of the time, I want my coffee made in my own style. My colleague, yesterday, informed me that there's brand new coffee shop opened inside 葵涌廣場, and I was immediately triggered to pay a visit to find out how good/bad they are.

As usually, I walked up and ordered my favorite double-shot lite-hazelnut cappuccino; however, I was convinced by the owner for a cup of double-shot latte instead. Therefore, I won't reject and take the challenge. It turned out that this cup of latte is the best that I had for the last so many years. You could first tell by the smell from the coffee bean and taste the smoothness of the foam. Double-shot is what I need!! Unfortunately, due to unpredictable sales, most cake was all sold out, there's nothing else available from the display except some brownie, thus that left me no choice but ordered a piece to go along with my latte.

The brownie was light in sweetness and dry, which may be good for those who may be more health conscious. However, it's very different from the old fashion American brownie. It's just different style.

The owner (Nigel) is extremely friendly and approachable, and he is very welcome for any type comments (positive and negative). That was how I spent over 30mins chatting with him and to share about my coffee experience with him.

Cheers,
R

First encounter at 壽司德 Smile Mar 14, 2008

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Intro: My first visit to 壽司德is back in Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t prevent me for recalling my first encounter of this restaurant.

Environment: It’s very common in HK that quality JP restaurants will have their sushi bars dominate the main area. I recall there’re about 10 seats for sushi bar, ~3 4-person-table, plus two private rooms. You could tell the owner is aiming for quality, dedication, comfort and service for each customer over serving many people all at once. Being a sushi lover, I wouldn’t compromise to be sitting a table over the sushi bar. Two good reasons for that: you can check out what are fresh on that day and most importantly you don’t want to regret what you order =D. You could also check out what other customers have ordered. As expected, I made a reservation for sushi bar section as usual.

Sake: Being a sushi lover, checking out their sake inventory is inevitable. They do not have a large selection over there, but what they have should be good enough to satisfy general sake lovers. I ordered a bottle of Kubota “Manjyu”for that evening.

Food: I recall I ordered Toro, Hamachi, Hiame, Ebi (served miso soup for head), Kaki, Anago, Mirugai, Hotate, Tamago, Akimo and Uni etc. The food there was FRESH with no doubt. The manager confirmed us that all ingredients are directly imported from JP. Of course, they serve fresh ワサビ(wasabi) there.

Price: This is a reasonable restaurant for quality for food, comfort for environment and service for efficiency. First visit of damage for two: HK$2400- with a bottle of Manjyu with lots of sushi. Second visit of damage for two: HK$1400- with a small size of Hakkaisan with less sushi.

Service: Excellent, efficient, friendly. I had a chance to introduce myself being a first time visitor there, from OpenRice, on that evening and asking her for suggestion on that evening. She was extremely friendly and welcoming. If it wasn’t a Valentine’s Day, we would have sit there for the whole evening because that’s what I normally do =P. She also mentioned to us that their lunch menu is also a very good deal for the quality and service you get, but unfortunately, I was staying in HK for a week for Chinese NY during that time.

Note#1: I revisit this restaurant a few days after, and everything was just as good as my first visit.

Note #2: Sunday evening may not be a good day because they normally receive new inventory on Monday, Wed and Thursday.

HK people style... "去d多人去d飯堂, 就一定唔會死錯人", this one is no exception. The location is good, food is decent, price is average, and service is quick. What else do you want to ask? The line is usually long, but it's worth it to wait there... for 30mins. If you think you will have to wait for more than 30mins, then I think there will be other choices for you to select in CWB. Hope this infomation is helpful to you.
