Delicious and cheap, this place is great when you're craving for some daa laang. You can order up to three types of marinated food - we had squid, pig ears and pig intestines. Their marinated goose was also good. I loved the pig ears that were done to chewy perfection. No daa laang meal would be complete without oyster so we had oyster pancakes and oyster congee. We also had a bowl of coagulated pork blood. It wasn't bad, but I'm also not a fan. Though the "big eye ...

Although the exterior looks inviting enough and the food wasn’t exactly bad, there is no way I am ever coming back to this place; no way I am ever recommending this to anybody (except maybe to people I dislike). Why? Because this place is horribly exorbitant for totally unremarkable, run-of-the-mill noodles. $80 for a bowl of beef ball noodles (to their credit, there were five pieces instead of the usual three or four), fried fish skin and hot lemon tea. What a tourist-tr...

Nothing’s more comforting than hot, spicy noodles on a cold and windy evening, and Marsino’s build-your-own noodles option was the answer. I had fried bean curd, pork balls and Thai fish cakes for toppings; hot and sour as the soup base; and rice noodles. The rice noodles weren’t ho fun (don’t know what type they were – round, slightly thin, bouncy) so they didn’t sop up the soup and never got soggy. I was pleasantly surprised when the whole thing turned out amazingly...

I love no-English-menu food adventures and this restaurant is one of the better ones. They have food pictures on their menu and the waiter who assisted us spoke English and was very helpful in getting us what we want. We had crispy fried squid, Yang Chow fried rice, oyster omelette (which was pretty good, by the way), but the highlight of the evening was the soy chicken. It's probably the best soy chicken I've ever had. Really. Exquisitely juicy, tender and flavorsome; wel...

There's no English menu at Mui Kee but that's okay because they have lots of pictures of food in their  menu and one can always just point at the food at the next table and say, "I want one of those, please." We only got to try two (well three if you also want to count the veggie) dishes because we were worried about ordering too much (note to self: drag along at least three other friends for an even quartet when eating at a dai pai dong). We had crispy pork knuckles, a pl...

If cheese is your thing, this place is for you. Make sure to bring someone who can read Chinese because they don't have an English menu. I was informed of this when I called to book a table but the nice gentleman who took in my call very hospitably volunteered to help out with picking things off the menu if none of us can read Chinese. Alas, he seems to have not been on duty when we went because we didn't exactly have an easy time finding a server who spoke English well enough to ...

I came here on a Friday night and was surprised that the place was not packed/fully-booked being right smack in the middle of Causeway Bay. They have clean-looking interiors (which I have no pictures of), and friendly and accommodating staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you come in. Dinner sets come with a slice of handmade bread (which was delicious!), mixed salad with Yuzu dressing - this was good, but a little too sour for me; and soup - which they've run...

One of the things I liked about Ichiran in Causeway Bay is the individual stalls which allows for some modicum of privacy for solo eaters. Alas, this isn't available in the Tsim Sha Tsui branch where they have a typical open-area seating arrangement instead. It's been a while since I last ate at Ichiran but I'm pretty sure the tonkatsu was not a little sliver of thin, mostly fat pork the last time I was there. It was mostly just noodles and broth. Admittedly, the broth was very ...

Look for something that looks a little out of place in Kwun Tong's long stretch of industrial buildings along Hoi Yuen Road. It's fairly easy to miss being squeezed between HSBC and the parking entrance to the Yip Fat Factory Building but it's the only one with a normal looking entrance. The café is on the 5th floor. Well-lit with friendly servers, I was seated immediately and given a bilingual menu (yey, English!) I ordered the daily soup and the Bulgo...

I thought there'd be a big dinner crowd at The Diner so my friend and I went very early one Saturday evening to sample the oh-so-talked-about Skirt Burger. It was practically empty when we got there at around 6.30 pm. We got a booth and made our orders - Skirt Burgers, Buttermilk Fried Chicken and a couple of hard ciders. The place had a stereotypical American diner vibe with checkered floor tiles, booths and round bar stools, fake mini-jukebox accessories and a li...
