I came across this shop incidentally a couple of weeks before. I was attracted by the nice deco of the shop and ventured to buy some 48-month Spanish ham for trial. I shared the ham with my colleagues in office and they made positive comments. We decided to visit the shop for the ham and to try out other stuffs.

I went to the shop with 2 colleagues on 13 Jan for a lunch gathering. The front half of the shop is a counter for selling fresh meats and ham. The inner room is equipped with only 2 low tables and several sofas. The tables are not regular dining tables, presumably for coffee break or afternoon tea. There is a small backyard behind. The environment is comfy and cosy.

We ordered 48-month Spanish ham (40g @ $180), assorted bread (@ $40, with 2 types of butter of which the one with herbs tastes really good), mushroom soup (@ $40/head), 2 kinds of pork chops (Deraza Iberian @ $163+50 & Miyazaki @ $119+50), prime ribeye (@316+50) & sea bass fillet (@$220+50). The food is delicious, especially the 48-month Spanish ham (well-balanced in flavor and rich in aroma) and the Miyazaki pork (tender, juicy and tasty).

The lunch gathering is delightful and satisfying:- attentive & friendly staff, professional cook, cozy deco, quiet environment, high quality ingredients and delicious food.

Rooms for improvement:
- There are only 2 tables for meals. Booking of table in advance is recommended to ensure availability of seats. More tables/seats are recommended.
- The tables are a bit low for dining. Regular dining tables are recommended.
- There is only one cook and it takes time to prepare food. Those in a hurry should consider pre-ordering of food over the phone in advance.

We visited this restaurant yesterday – it is quite an ordinary shop with ordinary deco and ordinary food, the waiters were warm and attentive though!
- We booked several hours in advance and got our dinner upon arrival.
- The ‘renowned’ 台灣一品花雕雞 (小辣) was just so so – the chicken was not particularly tender nor juicy and the sauce was unexpectedly too sweet, not our cup of tea.
- The ‘highly appreciated’ 粿條 tasted quite ok – but not as great as some of previous reviews said.
- The hot pot stuffs were quite ordinary – the 花雕雞汁加雞湯湯底 could have been stronger in chicken aroma, the hand-cut 本地肥牛 could have been more beefy in taste, the vege was very fresh though.
- the price was ok la – ~HK$1000 for 4 persons.

We found no particular attraction to revisit the place.

My wife and I visited this famous restaurant yesterday with three good friends. I had high expectation and reserved a table several weeks in advance.

The shop was clean and tidy with minimal deco, quite packed with tables though. The staffs were nice and knowledgeable. The shop charged for corkage but gave discount if paying in cash.

We ordered the follows:
酥炸獅頭魚 - average
龍井菊花燻乳鴿 – quite small and dry
雞油花雕蒸蟹加陳村粉 – the crab was good and the 花雕source was quite delicious and strong … we ordered extra rice to finish it
大班十八味雞 – the meat was tender and the skin was smooth
三蝦炒飯 – a bit too dry and could have used more shrimp paste
話梅肉桂糖醋骨 – nothing special
魚湯浸菜苗 - average
杏仁茶 and ice creams – free of charge

To conclude, it was a happy gathering and the food was quite good (but really not as great as some of the previous reviews said). The price was not cheap in Chinese restaurants’ standard but quite okay la (~HK$450/head).

My wife and I love noodles and our favorite 拉麵 restaurants in Central are 札幌元祖北海道拉麵 Sapporo Japanese Restaurant at the Exchange Square and 豚王 Butao Ramen at 和安里.

We read about this 秀拉麵 Hide-Chan Ramen at 威靈頓街in the magazine and decided to give it a try tonite.

This 秀拉麵 is actually not owned by the parent shop in Japan but a franchised shop operated by the 美麗華 group. The deco is quite nice with modern minimalist design and the staff are very warm and helpful. The price of food is a little bit more expensive than the other two shops.

The 拉麵 we ate tonite did not match up with the two other shops:
- The soup was thick but could have been richer in meat aroma. May be it was cooked with pork meat and bone only but not chicken meat and bone.
- The noodle was thin and did not hold the soup.
- The 叉燒 & egg were quite average.

All in all, it is an average ramen shop and we have no intention to visit it again.

We (6 persons in total) dined in this restaurent yesterday. We booked in advance and got our table right away when we arrived. We also took advantage of the 'free' packing outside the restaurent.

The 'fish king' who was responsible for the fishs, crabs, etc outside the restaurent was nice and attentative. I think he was a newcomer as I could not recall meeting him before. BTW, his bike was a very new model and super cool.

We ordered more than 10 dishes, including fried crab with ginger and spring onion, fried 1-day-salty fish, fried shrimp with soya bean sause, fried cuttle fish, steamed clam with garlic, steamed 'pipa' prawn, etc etc and a lot of beers.

The food was yummy and the beers were icy. It was a very satisfying dinner and it costed us HK$1200 only, i.e. 200/head.
