I am "very very" disappointed at some of the "very very" subjective comments below:

- if you prefer your server to introduce the daily specials until your entire party has arrived, there is nothing to stop you from voicing your request.

- $40 for 1 L of water (makes 4 x 250ml glasses) comes to $10/ glass. This is less than what some Chinese restaurants charge for tea/ person. most restaurants charge $60 or more for a bottle anyway.

- it seems as someone is ordered a lot of starters and side dishes and complaining about the portion...
portions and prices should be put in perspective.
japanese bbq/grills serve beef/ seafood on sticks for $40-60 as well. these vanish in 2 bites!
if i remember correctly, spaghetti house pizza and pasta is about similar price but it tastes like campbell soup poured over cooked pasta.

portion has to be reasonable but at the end of the day, taste is more important. if stuffing yourself full is priority, pizza hut will do the job fine. you can even cook at home.

i go to 798 unit & co. for the both the food and the ambience.

bustling atmosphere of a New York bistro with a large open kitchen; a rare find in HK.

I like the fact that the menu changes frequently so that ingredients are seasonal. Also there's something interesting awaiting when I return.

Presentation of the dishes is simple yet sophisticated.

Spaghetti with asparagus & pesto is the best vegetarian pasta i've ever had! healthy, simple but flavorful!

To scorpio baby and fellow commentators:

Simply Life IS part of Maxim's group
so if you feel that the bread or coffee tastes like they were produced by chain-style eateries, this may explain why...

I decided to try Zest because HK Magazine gave it a very good rating.
The menu has a fair number of dishes that appeal - in this sense, it succeeded in the first step.
however, step 2, execution, did not meet expectations. either the plates were too small or the ingredients were too busy. My company ordered pork chop but i could see that there was hardly any space to slice the meat properly without squishing the sauce and accompaniments.

the dessert of roasted tomato and mascarpone tart was a nice combination as it served both the function of after-dinner cheese + dessert. they used local (china?) cherry tomatoes, and could have done better (like dutch cherry tomatoes) since the tomato is the focus of this dish.

ok but nothing to wow.

the crust is short-crust pastry (tart based) and not flaky pastry.

I also think the pastry contains lard. Personally this is not my cup of tea.

If not for the brand, I doubt if there will be a line for egg tarts.
