Arriving nice and early, being told that the tea time only started at 3pm, my friend and i had the chance to look around before making our orders. There were plenty of selection and i was truly delighted by all the displays of beautiful chocolate and cakes around me. In addition to this, service was noticeably thoughtful; with no additional pressure on people sitting there for more than 3 hours tongue

Our coffee ( Latte and cappuccino) arrived very soon. With a whopping $68(?) , my cappuccino tasted nothing extraordinary. Rather, the chiefs had greater passion on desserts and pastries.$385 bought us 5 different cakes, the signature scones and 2 coffee.

chopstickHaving not tried any remarkable scones before, i had been online earlier and made up my mind to give the signature scones a try; and they worked out! The lightish golden brown on the outside weren't particularly attractive among all the pastries and cakes but the unique butter smell was remarkable.Unlike those crumbly scones in other restaurants, these ones were still presentable when you halved it. The scone itself was so moist and fluffy and they did match with the rose petal jam.

chopstickAlthough i was pleasantly full, i still had the urge to try a bit more. I then ordered raspberry and apricot Mousse and Opera. The mousse was a successful surprise with a light sour taste of raspberry cake and bits of apricot at the bottom. It wasn't filling and it made a good "appetizer" before the Opera. The Opera tasted good and especially appreciate the semisweet chocolate on top crispy chocolate base . Yet, the numerous layers tasted no difference to me... maybe i was too full at that moment...

chopstick The american cheesecake and double chocolate cake my friend ordered were tasty as well. The cheesecake was rich in texture with thick moist crusts at the bottom. Again, i couldn't tell much difference between opera and double chocolate cake given they both had strong chocolate taste. ...
we ended up sitting there for 3 hours....

This cafe is no doubt a delightful addition to the world-renowned mandarin oriental.

glamorous, but not on food Just OK Jul 07, 2010

Astonished by the glamorous and sophisticated contemporary decor when first entered, i have to admit it that i like this posh restaurant at first sight. With style in abundance, overlooking the view of Kowloon, i expected a nice tea-time. The service was attentive and polite. Sofa seats were cozy but not comfortable for dining.

We chose the western style (low tea) over the Chinese style (high tea) as we weren't in desperate need of food. The setting and display of the food were nice, but that's it.

The scones were the single stand-out dish of the meal even though i personally prefer it to be a but warmer. The sandwiches and tarts were unforgivable and shouldn't even be placed there. Whats the point of putting a tasteless sandwich that everyone with hands can make (or even better)? The taste of the macron, cake and mango mousses were disappointing. There were various type of coffee available but there weren't anything special.

On the other hand, I don't understand why the waitress placed us right next to a group of 4 very noisy customers when there were plenty of seats out there. (the other seats, are not reserved)

Living room failed to deliver the joyful tea-time for me and i probably wont go again.A whopping $300 just for the decor, no way.sad

BEST 湯圓 :D Smile Jul 06, 2010

My friend living in the area highly recommended this little dessert place and i finally had a chance to give it a try last Saturday.
The 芝麻湯圓 and 芝麻湯圓 are truly delicious. Even though i am not a big fan of glutinous rice balls, i still love them. The chewiness of the glutinous rice ball and the mouthwatering black sesame/peanuts filings are perfect match. And the 'ginger water" contrasted in taste and texture with the rice balls without clashing. i have to say its the best 湯圓 that i have ever tried.

This dessert place was, without a doubt, the best place for 湯圓.smile

Fair price, fair food Just OK Jul 05, 2010

I only noticed this restaurant after i saw it name on openrice. As an upstairs restaurant, its not doing enough to catch customers' attention among the various restaurants in Knutsford Terrace.
I ordered roasted duck breast and my friend tried the mushroom risotto. The display of the food is simple but nice. The duck breast is quite thick but the sauce worth a bonus mark . There arent any big surprise with the food but its a nice bargain.
I had a creme brulee at the end and its just fair.

The BEST burger in HK! Smile Jul 05, 2010

Categories : Western | Hamburger

This is definitely the best burger shop i've ever had in HK.tongue
No comments on the tightly packed seats and the way that you have to seat at the bar until some other customers finally decide to leave, the burgers and snacks the restaurant serves are excellent.
i ordered Portobello Cheese Burger and my friend ordered Scallop Burger: I was so in love with mine, even though the size is huge, i managed to finish it within 15mins. The cheese, mushroom, saucy beef and the slightly toasted bread matched perfectly well. The Scallop burger seems to be very nice as well and my friend could count 6 piece of scallop out of the burger. The snacks we ordered (potato wedges and mozzarella sticks) tasted excellent as well.

Despite the packed environment and the long waiting time, everything is great and i'd definitely go again. I really wish that they could keep the quality of the food and will not be too hurry to expand.
P.S. i think this restaurant is more for people to enjoy the food rather than a chatting place, especially during dinner time.
